Identical to Mammut Crag Classic except for length

In case folks were wondering (I was), this rope is identical to the Mammut Crag Classic in every way except length and color. The Crag Classic comes in 70m or 80 m, the Gym Classic comes in 40m. The cost per meter (for the 80m Crag Classic) is also identical. I already had a 70 m rope, so wanted the Gym Classic for leading in the gym and on the short crags where I spend much of my time. The Gym Classic, though identical to the Crag Classic, probably gets lower reviews because the buyers are beginning climbers who aren't familiar with how ropes handle in various belay devices. Check out the reviews for the Crag Classic.

Great gym rope

This is a very nice gym rope so far. I’m not sure what the other post ment by it being so dangerous that they can’t lower the lead climber. I had so problem I also belay with the grigi. It is a little slick at first until you break in but you can control the lowering no problem. This is a great gym rope for the price.

Sheath Core Separation Right Under Middle Mark

Enjoyed using it while it lasted, but relatively quick ending via a suspicious issue. At a little of a year of 1x week gym use, started to notice a few softer spots. Worse though, in less than two years of maybe 1x per week use and rare falls, the sheath appears to have separated from the core right under the middle mark area (pulling two hands apart test). Since that area was never weighted during falls (in fact - w exception of maybe 5 taller gym wall visits, given mainly shorter wall gym-only use, it was only weighted at very end of lowering a climber), I wonder if it was the Mammut’s middle mark ink itself that caused it. Or maybe, always taking a climber off belay at the middle mark? Either that or just durability issues at thinner 9.5mm gym rope.

Best darn gym rope I've used

This rope has been my go to rope for gym sessions. It has done the easy, hard, and ugly without breaking a sweat. I have used it since black Friday 2022 and easily clocked 100 or more sessions on this bad boy. The rope does take quite a few runs before the kinky, knotty, annoying loops get ironed out but that is almost a given with any new rope. Besides that, I do not have any qualms with this rope. Its easy to pack, has some nice stretch to it when taking a fall, and seems to hold up. I have used MAMMUT's care videos to clean all my ropes and have now seen any fraying or sponginess in the sheath. Can't recommend enough, especially when on sale. Great gym rope

Have been using this rope for a few months now and love it. Feeds so smoothly, just feels great to use. Not sure what issues some may have with a grigri but I’ve never ran into problems with slippage or uncontrollable lowering. At 9.5mm though if you’re used to a 9.8 or thicker it’ll definitely feel different.

Perfect gym rope

First time I found a 40 m rope that was actually cheaper than sharing a 70 m cut in half for a gym rope. Rope handles nicely both in ATC and grigri. I used mine heavily and it held up about a year before it developed some soft bulky spots.

Don't buy it

DO NOT BUY THIS ROPE. I suppose it is possible I got a bad one, but I bought this rope in March and in 2 months (it is now May) it has almost entirely lost it's elasticity, roundness, and is extremely frayed. I ONLY USED IT IN THE GYM. Granted, I exclusively lead climb on it, and typically take about 20-30 falls per session between me and my partner, twice a week, but I still think that there is no reason for this rope to be in such rough shape after only 2 months of using it in perfect gym circumstances. In fact, the way it looks right now, makes me hesitant to whip on it at all, which is ridiculous. Oh and in case anyone is wondering: I don't keep it in the sun and it hasn't been exposed to any chemicals.

It's a rope

Overall fantastic gym rope, does not coil as bad as my previous rope. Really like how easy it flakes before climbing and flows through the grigri and ATC wonderfully. Fell on it a few times and seems to have a good amount of give but not to much that it feels like it's being over stretched. The wear is holding up well no real signs of damage. For reference it's been winter in CO so Indoor climbing has been have been super aggressive for 3 days a week for several hours/routes. Overall would definitely recommend this rope for gym use!

5 stars - feels really great in the hand - just like all other Mammut ropes I've used! I've learned after years of climbing that this is a non-negotiable quality to have in a rope. Easy feeding of slack and easy clipping into draws adds enjoyment and increases your chance of making it through tough clipping positions safer and more efficiently. Has held up great while taking repeated falls in the gym. Also plan on using it for simul-climbing - excited to not have to deal with 60 or 70m ropes while simuling!

Fantastic Gym Rope

This is a fantastic gym rope. This is the first dedicated gym rope that I have purchased and I am extremely happy with this rope. Unlike other reviewers, I have not seen the issues with "bumps" in the rope, nor the issues with climbers in "free-fall" when lowering.
