Except for the color of

Except for the color of these shoes, which are boring and unexciting, they are near perfect. Just spent two weeks hiking on the smooth, sandy and soft trails of Joshua Tree and the rough, rocky and loose trails of Organ Pipe, scrambling and bouldering. Hiked for miles and hours and found them so comfortable and the Vibram traction incredible, the mesh cool and breathable. Higher quality shoelaces would be nice!

I purchased these for a 7 day trip in Spain anticipating lots of walking. I added a pair of SuperFeet orthotic inserts and wore my Swiftwick merino wool lite hiker socks and my feet were happy the entire trip! No surprises there. Thanks Danner !

serious issues

These shoes are very well made and have great ventilation, but there were some serious issues, so I returned them. Even the wide felt to narrow, even though my feet are not especially wide. The band of stretchy fabric that covers the top of your foot was very uncomfortable, and the insoles are not removable, so you can't use different ones. I own other Danners but these didn't work for me.

My second pair - best

My second pair - best shoe ever. These feel really light. And not in a cheap way. My first pair lasted me many years (plural). Backpacking, hiking, trail maintenance & building MTB trails. I absolutely love them. First pair only were lost to too much 99% DEET bug spray messing with the fabric (it literally says on the DEET bottle not to use on the fabric these shoes are made out of - but Midwestern summers by lakes made me not care). Second pair matches build quality on arrival (good to know they are still making the same quality product many years later). One month of wear confirms this. Love them. Hope DANNER builds them forever.

This shoe doesn’t seem to meet the quality standards I’ve come to expect from Danner. They do, however, have one thing I’ve come to expect, they run small and narrow. The big fault for me was a small piece that runs vertical from the sole near the big toe joint up to the laces. That made the shoe so uncomfortable I couldn’t wear it even for the short time I did trying it on for fit. I returned the shoes the same day as I knew they would kill my feet. This style, like too many others, don’t come in a wide. I don’t understand why Danner does not make all their styles in wides because if they did I would have several more pairs.

I have been looking for comfortable mesh shoe very much like the Trailcomber 3”. I tried the “D” width (my normal width and it was too narrow and upper was very tight around the foot. Then tried the “EE” width and this show has a swell in midsole edge right where the arch of the foot is. I suppose this was intentional and made to serve as an arch support. It is quite sharp and abrupt. Uncomfortable! Please make a mesh shoe like the Trailcomber but with a more traditional last and arch support area. Glad to see Danner is starting to use a last with more room toward the front. Many of your traditional Danner boots in past decades had very narrow toe area. Wearing Danner boots & shoes since 1978. The shoes are wonderful they have great grip on both dry dusty trails and really wet muddy ones. I bought these shoes for my honeymoon in Kauai and it was a great decision they are extremely comfortable and supportive I’ve had two knee surgeries on one knee and I haven’t been sore once. The only thing I would recommend is if your foot is wide even slightly get a wide size or a different shoe the elastic bands that help keep the young of the shoe down and secure also hold the insole of your foot a slight amount on the right side but other than that great shoes 10/10 would buy again.

Danner's Hiking Shoes

I loved the look of the Danners so I went ahead and ordered a pair. I ordered a half size larger than I normally would order as the guidelines said that the particular hiking shoe ran small. I tried them on at the outlet store where I picked up my mail order and they were too big. I went back online and the smaller size was out of stock ---bummer. So I had to return the shoes much to my disappointment. I ended up ordering a shoe that I didn't like as well. I guess I should order any shoe/boot in 2 sizes, just in case, and just return 1 pair.

I own several pairs of Danner hiking and work boots. The quality of build is fantastic. The size is spot on for my size 10 foot and I love the roomy toe box. My rating would be five stars IF they had a removal foot bed. I cannot understand the glued foot bed with the size sticker smack dab in the middle of the heel. It makes no sense. The cushioning is very comfortable for long hikes. I have a very high instep and have no problem with the elastic which connects the tongue. I find it very comfortable and secure. These can be worn without socks if that is your jive.
