Great product, but REI is selling old quickdraws
I purchased these online in June 2020. When checking the manufacture date it turns out that they were manufactured in 2017 (see photo). Climbing gear has to be retired after a certain number of years even if it's never used (lifespan of quickdraws = 2-5 years with moderate use according to REI's guidelines), and these quickdraws will have to be retired three years earlier than if REI were actually selling a new product. I spoke to a representative about this but they were unhelpful. To be clear: there is nothing wrong with the quickdraws themselves, I really like them. Just beware when buying these online from REI. I suggest only buying in store where you can check the tags.
Great draws at a great price
These are great, high quality draws. I would also like to clarify, as no one else has unfortunately for 2 years, that the date that the person above thinks is the year, is not the year it was manufactured. These are not old draws. That is the year that specific certification was put into place. There is a number right below that, upside down, that is likely the date code. If I had to guess, I suspect the draws that this person is so upset about were manufactured in September 2019, less than a year from the review, based on the 09 19 stamped right below it.
7 years old already, just purchased
Product is from 2017, purchased in January 2024. After looking it up online, the conservative estimate for how long the dogbone part of a draw lasts (the nylon part between carabiners) is about 10 years unused, no matter how well they were stored. They only have about 3 years before they need replacing.
great draws!!!
These are great draws and it’s a shame someone wrote a poor review without all the knowledge.
