Cannondale Bad Boy 1. It is difficult to find this model during the pandemic, parts made overseas are not readily available. Not even Cannondale can say when and where the product can be found. At 5'9...im perfect for the medium....any taller and move up to the larger size. The ride is similar to BMX style to me, less MNT Bike like. Quiet ride with the belt drive. Good range of gears, although not like a mountain bike. You will run out of gears, both ways. This is a bike path bike, or towney/city bike. The seat post and the fork lights are gimicky. As typical, some components are low budget, I replaced the pedals, and seat post clamp. This is a blacked out bike, I added reflective stickers. They can always be removed. REI quickly shipped the bike to a local store for my pick up, no issues.
I love my new bike. The belt drive and internal drive work amazing. You can stop at a traffic light downshift while standing still and start off again with no issue. It's so unique and it works so well. The integral lights work as advertised and truly help visibility. Lastly, special shout out to the guys in the bike shop. They set the bike up perfect!!! It was such a pleasure start to finish
Great looking bike, very unique design and some very high-end components, e.g. Alfine 8, wheels, etc. I write this review after several months of use of the 2019 version, which is 99% identical to the 2020 version. Unfortunately after several months the bike has become noisy and creaky, even after a tune up. The built-in lights are more of a gimmick and not functional at night, and the grips are very uncomfortable after long rides. Also, the matte black paint also scratches very easily. For $2k, not worth it. You're better off getting the Co-Op 1.2. Almost identical components and at the right price point; and while, it doesn't look as cool, I imagine it will last you a lifetime and functional much better.
The Cannondale Bad Boy 1 is marketed as an urban commuter. The rigid, lightweight (26.8lbs), and super nimble handling make it a breeze to ride quick and fast over city streets. But this Bad Boy isn't a slouch on unven terrain - the mountain bike frame, and the 40mm tires make it feel like a gravel bike; I even take it to the green and blue singletrack trails here in Las Vegas, Nevada. With this fully rigid lefty - I can dodge the smallest pebble, and easily lift the front over any chunky parts. The Shimano Alfine 8 internal gear hub is very impressive too. I've read that it does make the bike back-heavy (1680 grams) but at 3.7lbs of the 26.8 total weight - I hardly notice it, and think the convenience is worth it. I don't have a derailuer to bang, scrape, repair. And no derailuer means little-to-low maintenance. And the Gate Carbon Beltdrive means no oil, and a conversation starter. I actually want to put an Alfine 11 on my mtb, that's how good it is to me. The Shimano Alfine is 8 gears. This may seem like it isn't enough, but the range is good. I can easily top 27mph on a comfortable cadence on gear 7/8. And coasting through the neighborhood feels good at gear 4 (I read that gear 4 is much like a direct gear). Gears 3, 2, and 1 are less used. But as soon as any type of hill comes, I'm flying up it, while my friends get off and push their bikes. A Stark in the streets, and a Wilding in the... single-track sheets. This bike is very capable and does do it all. And it does it all while looking sleek, clean, with its BBQ color scheme, and integrated lights. What can I say about the lights? They are sweet. But this bike isnt just good looks, it's beauty and brawn. The complete package.
I've had this bike for a few months now and enjoy it. I use it in a slightly hilly urban environment for running errands and fitness/leisure. Really quick and quiet. It is simpler and easier to ride than my previous Cannondale F4 MTB. The Alfine hub is great and I love the belt. It is a very stiff frame, so I made a few adjustments to make it comfortable.. changed the grips to large Ergon grips, put fatter tires on it, and deflated the front tire a bit so now it is comfortable on an hour + ride without destroying my wrists! Very fun bike ... hop on and go!
belt drive works like a charm no oils cleaning no stretch chain.8 gears is very well thought I use every single gear. with my road bike I have 22 gear I don't use all of them. 8 gears 1 gear when you have one rotation the crank wheel turns 1.20 turn on the 8 gear it turns 3.20 so you can Check it with your bike. and in between the gear it's like jumping 2 gears on the regular bike. this works with where I live. tires are very versatile center is like road bike patent sides mountain bike. great rolling resistance. nice comfortable ride. saddle is the most comfortable I have used. grips just perfect. brakes lots of stopping power. corners very well. front light is gimmicky but seatpost light works very vell u can use up to 100 hours if u use 3 led lights. my only problem was pedals it was very heavy cast aluminum and not gripy I changed crankbrothers stamp 7 now it's perfect
