I dislike reviewing products after owning them for just a few day / weeks, so I waited over 18 months to post this short review. These socks have been excellent. I have used them in both winter and summer. Granted, the winters around here are not terrible cold, but summers in the desert are very hot. I find that they are not too hot to use in the heat of summer. Being Merino wool, they absorb sweat and do not smell, even after wearing them for a few days. Thickness is just right and provide enough cushion to be comfortable, yet do not take up so much room that my shoes start to feel tight. All-in-all, these are excellent socks. I plan on buying a few more pairs (as soon as they go on sale again).
I bought 2 pairs navy and 2 pairs Terra. Womens shoe size 9, bought the medium in both. The Terra ones fit perfectly, snuggish around the arch, but roomy in the toes. The navy ones are just a bit looser all over, and I have to pull them up kind of hard when putting on my shoes to prevent bunching. They both wear well and wash well, and are light weight and not bulky at all. But I prefer the fit on the Terra. I’m going to get more Terra, and try the Navy in a Small
I've been on the lookout for good socks feels like forever. My feet get hot and sweaty so wool socks are my go-to choice for winter socks. I got some lighter merino wool socks from REI last year and when I bought them again, they were thinner and I didn't like them as much. These were on sale, so I thought I would give them a try. I'm so glad I did, because they're perfect. They are medium weight and super comfy. My feet never get too hot in them, but they stay nice and warm. They are literally my new favorite pair. Highly recommended.
These are so comfortable. I'll use them for every day use, as they are a good thickness, not like the regular hike which are quite a bit thicker. They feel like slightly more cushioned than standard crew socks. Buying another pair today. Plus, all the benefits of wool. I've bee buying REI brand hiking socks for over a decade and they have never disappointed. Now with the ultralight I feel like I can use them all the time
I typically wear women’s size 8 shoes, so I bought the medium socks. They are at least a size too big. I don’t find that they’re much cooler or more breathable than other wool socks, although they are thinner. When I have worn them on fall days, my feet are too cold when it’s 20-30 degrees F in the morning and too hot when it’s 50-60 degrees F or more. I absolutely would not want to wear these in the summer (I did once and feet sweat a lot). Have worn them about 7 times. Structurally, they’ve held up so far. I avoid wearing them because of how oversized they are and how the warmth does not seem to be suitable for many conditions. I work outdoors year round and own a variety of wool and synthetic socks, and I do not find these desirable to wear at all.
I've found these socks to be super comfortable while hiking! One of my favorite pairs. They have worked really well as a nice light sock for my casual hikes and I intend to use them as often as possible. I got the Medium size for my Women's size 8 feet, but I think I probably could have gotten away with a size Small. A nice comfy sock with attractive colors.
Comfy fit on the foot. I wear a size 9 womens shoe and ordered a medium. Just wished there was a bit more elasticity around the ankle/lower leg. They fit well there when I put them on. However, after wearing them all day they become tight and indent that area.
The merino helps a ton to keep the socks from getting smelly. My only complaint is the socks stretch throughout a day of use, so the "heel patch" usually ends up on my achilles if I want to keep the sock tight within my boot. Maybe getting a size smaller would have helped, but I bought the size that was recommended for my shoe size.
These are the perfect weight socks for warm weather…however, I bought size XL as I wear size 13 shoes….these fit more like a size large. I even compared these to my previous REI wool socks that are regular weight and also LT. weight and there is no comparison. These are shorter in foot length and also calf length. I Love the material, I just wish they were sized like the other REI socks I have in size XL.
I like these socks, especially the blue color. They're pretty thin as advertised. One odd thing is I'm a size 9 in women's and ordered the Medium, but it's a bit big. Not enough to bunch, but when pulling the sock tight the heel goes past mine. I ordered the Small and that fits better for me
