Survived a 7 hour interstate trip no problem, did decrease gas milage by about 2 miles per gallon on our SUV. Kept everything safe and dry. It isn't super friendly to attach without a top rack, though it was doable. The top portion of the doors let in more interstate noise and doors were harder to close, but they were still weather sealed. If the clips fit our door better I would give it a 5 star. Some adjustment or possibly alternate clips for different vehicles would be great.

Our gear was strewn across the highway

We recently used this carrier for a weekend camping trip (car is a hatchback with manufacturer-installed top rails). We packed per the guidelines for the carrier, and the drive out was fine. We packed in the same manner for the drive home, but an hour into the drive the carrier ripped and flew off of our roof and our gear was all over the highway. We were able to salvage most of our stuff, and drove the remaining 4.5 hours with our belongings jammed into every possible nook around us, the kid, and the dog.

Roof cargo - excellent, especially on a budget

Got this for moving across the country in my car - it was perfect. It was less expensive than the hard shell cargo options, which was a plus. And it actually made it easier to stuff full of miscellaneous shaped items (lots of clothes/shoes stuffed into garbage bags). It did not rain at all when I was using it, so I cannot speak to the waterproof aspect, but after 8 days on the road, everything was in great shape. It was easy to install onto my car and cinch down onto the roof rack bars. The zippers had nice big rings on the end so I was able to use a lock to secure my items. I did not notice any additional noise from the bag on the roof while driving. Overall, would recommend!

Exactly what I needed

I used this car topper to drive from Madison, WI to Davis, CA while camping at National Parks along the way. Installing was straightforward and I didn’t have an issues. There was rain along the way, but my stuff stayed dry. It’s worth the investment.

Worked great

Drove from Cleveland to Boulder to move home our recent college grad. Packing up realized way too much clothes to fit. Boulder REI was open Sunday and had this car top carrier on the shelf. Worked Great. Easy secure even without rack crossbars. I climbed up top and she handed me clothes, clothes, bedding, pillows I stuffed like a large stuff sack. Worked great, tightened straps first few hundred miles but remained secure.

used twice

Bought in July 2021 and used once the following week for a camping trip w a 6 hr drive both directions. I was pleased, and it continued to work well in the deluges of rain on the way to and during our camping trip. July 2023 using it while on a road trip, after 9hrs of driving I noticed the entire seem had opened up around the front half of the bag. The seam which was fused/sealed to be waterproof had no thread. Upon inspection prior to the trip there were no signs of an issue. I hope we may be eligible for a credit on another product. Really disappointed in this bag.

Garbage

Took this on a trip from VA to TX. Two days and change. On the last day at a stop for gas, realized this thing absolutely disintegrated and we actually lost one smaller bag full of Christmas presents. The other stuff inside was heavier bags so we were able to keep them, but had to shove everything inside with the people and pets. Worse than a waste of money, it actually cost us more than it cost when you factor in the lost luggage. Hoping we get some credit on a purchase of a cargo box.

Do. Not. Buy

My first one started falling apart from sun exposure, just melted after nothing crazy heat-wise. Klymit customer service was great, sent me a replacement…… and it lasted 5 trips before ripping. Do not buy.
