Necessary but...
You really need this if you are going to use Zwift or something similar on a PC. The issue is that the 3 foot cord supplied can introduce some significant latency into the ride - the program will show a switch from 10% grade to -2%, but you may still feel like you're climbing for awhile. I bought a 10 foot USB (Amazon) and lay it (and the ANT+) right under my Wahoo Kickr, latency is almost nothing. Oh, and when I received my unit it was missing the ANT+, so I ended up using a spare Garmin ANT+ that I found lying around. I guess what I'm saying is that you can get a better and more functional unit piecing it out, and it will be the same price or cheaper.
Good fix for power dropouts on Zwift.
This kit really helped when I started experiencing power dropouts while riding on Zwift. It took two years of riding my Kickr, before I had my first dropout. But then it started happening more frequently, and was very frustrating. After a bunch of troubleshooting, I found that two things were causing the issue- interference from the smart TV upstairs, and my original ANT+ dongle going bad. Once I installed this Wahoo ANT+ and extension usb cable - I stopped having problems. The ANT+ dongle is of high quality, and fits tightly into the USB extension cable. This device works very well.
Windows issue
Pro: when it comes for the connection , it's awesome like plug and play. Con: got a "bitlocker" on my Windows when I restarted, need to retrieve my "recovery key ID"
Would not buy again
The dongle does not fit securely in the USB extension. I think I am going to tape it into place. The Extension is very short - only 3'. I bought this because my Wahoo Tickr was having connectivity issues and the Sufferfest Website indicated that it could be the dongle I was using and this product was listed as having been tested and approved. It did not resolve the issue. My other less expensive dongle has a longer extension and fits securely. Look at the image and you can see that it looks like only half of a normal male USB connector.
Use the Ant Kit for Kickr+Zwift+Android/PC
I was using bluetooth connections between my Kickr and Zwift, I use a PC and android to connect everything. Using Bluetooth, the connections never connected the same way, and the connection dropped during my rides. Using the Ant Kit, everything connects immediately, and stays connected throughout the ride. The issue is a Zwift issue for Android/PC users. My Android Phone and PC connect through my router, this connection was very inconsistent.
Solved my constant drops on bluetooth
I bought this because I kept getting a dropped connection on Zwift using Bluetooth with Zwift Companion App. It was making me insane and I couldn't participate in any races or events. I haven't had a single drop with the ANT+. I got the extension cord with it and it just dangles down by my front wheel. Problem solved. I should have done this two years ago. Zwift picked up the new ANT+ immediately and it was an immediate GO for riding.
Solid connections, no drops
It's been very reliable. I've been using it with Windows 10. I do find that some times I need to restart TrainerRoad to see all the sensors I'm using but once connected, no issues. It's usually after start up of the laptop and the application. I'm using Garmin Vector 3, Bontrager Duotrap S Speed/Cadence sensor and TICKR FIT Heart Rate Armband. I've purchased a 9' extension so I can keep the senor under the Wahoo Kickr.
Lackluster performance - just stick to Bluetooth.
I've been using this for about a month now, and more often than not this product gives me issues. Some days it works fine, but most days it won't hold a connection and/or lags significantly. I've gone back and forth with support countless times but no solution that has been presented actually solves the problem. Bluetooth is much more reliable (despite being far from perfect), so I recommend sticking to that.
This ANT Sensor Works
First I tried a cheaper USB / ANT+ sensor from Amazon but it kept dropping the connection even though it had an extension cable long enough to let me locate the sensor less than one foot from my Wahoo Kickr Core, so I returned that one. This one costs more but it works. The USB extension cable is only 3 feet long but it works for me with my laptop placed within reach of the bike.
Works ok but...........
When I plug the dongle directly into the USB port it functions just fine, but when I try and use the extension my computer won't recognize it anymore. A friend told me that the farther the dongle is away from the speed/cadence sensor the quicker the battery will run down which is why I specifically wanted the USB extension cord. Time will tell if that turns out to be true.
