Decent grip, but uncomfortable

Like most mountain bikers, I've been on FiveTen Freeriders in some form or another for several years. Also like most folks, I've been looking for an alternative that is more durable, but provides the same grip and better features (e.g. lace control). The Ride Concepts shoes seemed like they would hit the mark, but sadly they lack the grip of FiveTens and are not nearly as comfortable. On the plus side, the RC shoes seem well designed and durable, the laces are thick and seem more durable than the competing shoes, but my favorite feature is also the most simple: They have a loop for laces control, which allows you to easily bundle your laces and prevent them from snagging into the cranks. The most surprising thing about these shoes to me was how stiff they were, the entire shoe is very rigid, which could be a good or bad thing. The most important thing for these shoes, though, is how they grip. I found the grip across three different pedals to be mediocre. On the really aggressively concave pedals (e.g. ANVL Tilt), the stiffness kept the shoe from settling into the pedal, which meant grip suffered. On those that are flatter (e.g. OneUp Alloy), the shoe had decent grip, but you could tell the rubber wasn't as soft as other options. Finally, with long pedals with short pins (e.g. Catalyst), the shoes provided insufficient grip and displaced feet were a regular occurrence. I also found them uncomfortable. It didn't bother me on the bike, but I had to remove them while driving home because something on the outer portion of the shoe was putting pressure on the left side of my foot. It was so painful that I had to pull off and remove them to stay focused on driving. I should say that this may be a sizing thing, I normally run 10.5 shoes, but found the last pair of 10.5s to be a bit large, so I tried 10 in these shoes. I have not tried a larger size. It's close to what I'm looking for, but ultimately the lack of grip killed the shoe for me and that's a shame. I'd like to see a softer rubber compound and a little more flexibility.

Best I've experienced!

I ride single track technical trails with platform pedals at least 300 days/year and I've tried all kinds of bike shoes. I am picky about fit and connection/traction to pedals. The Ride Concepts Livewire are the best that I'veever worn! My feet are average width (not wide with C/D width) and I usually wear an 11 cause I'm between 10 1/2 and 11. The 11s in Livewire fit perfectly with no weird pressure points. High quality look and feel, and I forget about wearing them while on the ride -- perfect!

Great shoes for trail riding

Great shoes. Tried them a few times in moderate-difficulty trails in hot dry weather. Grippy for trail riding on flat pedals. The shoe is relatively flexible when riding and OK to walk with off the bike. On the bike it feels great. Good protection - bashed it against a few rocks and felt nothing. It breathes well. Sizing - I am size 10 in Five Ten shoes and same in these shoes (Foot length 28 cm without socks) Quality wise it feels very good.

Like glue on the pedals, but sizing is small.

Hope this review helps someone else ordering online hoping the size they order is correct. These fit small in relation to nike skate casual shoes i own. I wear a 10.5 nike and a 11 brooks. I ordered a 10.5 in these and they were both restrictive on the forefoot and toe box. Sizing up to a 11.5. Besides the sizing issue, they faired well in 80 degree sunny weather and moderate single track trail riding. construction seems durable and the build solid. Walking in them is not preferable, but they are mtb shoes so who cares.

Better than Freerider

Great shoes all around, very high quality construction and they keep you on the pedals at least as well as the Freerider Pro. Really good protection built in, stiffer shoes than the 5/10 and better quality. Also for the record, Ride Concepts have awesome customer service. I wear a size 12 across the board but they were a little snug in the toe box in these shoes. I contacted RC and they paid return shipping to them so they could send the 12.5, which fit perfectly (I'd compare that to 12 in the Freerider Pro). Compare that experience to what I went through w/ Adidas - my Freerider Pro's failed after about 15 miles (eyelet came out, sole coming loose, etc) and they told me that I should just return them to the store where I bought them - didn't offer to warranty them or anything. So yeah, buy your shoes from a company that still cares.

Great shoe!!

I've had my shoes since June 2020 and they're great. It's also my first mtb shoe so..... I happen to love the stiffness and rigidity of the shoe. Grips the pedals really good! I sometimes have trouble re adjusting in the middle of bombing down a hill. .... rather have that issue vs. slipping off though. I'm giving this shoe the business and no holes or tears yet. Would def buy another pair. Oh! Got my 2020 co-op drt 1.2 from here too! LOVE IT!!! For a entry level mtb it's like seeing big foot in the woods when you spot one! You hear folks saying. " oh that's that rei bike!" .... or " that's their drt! I heard that's a really good bike" Handles really well. I'll looking to change the front forks though. Per the sticker on it they don't recommend mtb'ing???? ....I guess. This was about the shoe anyway.... LOVE THE SHOE!!!

Comfortable bike shoe

The shoe ran small for me, I normally wear a size 12 and needed a 13 to get a good fit. It initially felt a little snug right out of the box, I wore them around the house for two days to break them in before riding. I was impressed with how comfortable the Livewire was on my first long single track ride. The shoe did a good job gripping the pedals, no slipping. I would recommend this shoe.

Great feel, but durability is questionable

Love the way these shoes grip and feel during a ride. They feel close to clipless in how attached to the bike you feel. However, after the months of riding in them I have worn through the sole and into the mid layer of the shoes. Four deep grooves/holes across the ball of each foot. Love the shoe, wish the grip didn’t come at the price of durability.

Seems like they would be grippy but too stiff.

I wanted to like these. They fit well and have a grippy looking/feeling sole, but they are just too stif my feet hurt wearing in the house. Also the Velcro lace strap was just too much, wide, stiff and did not slide in and out of its metal loop easily at all.
