I bought this to replace an old 21L bag I had been using daily for the past 7 years. I wanted a bit more space and this is great. I am able to carry all my work toys plus a change of clothes (last pic) and still have enough space for a laptop, paperwork, and even fit 3 jumbo bags of candy in with everything else. Looking forward to taking it out for day hikes. If you have a hammock this could definitely be an overnight camp bag, and I think a water bladder could slip into the laptop sleeve. Very good construction and love the way you can either open up from the top or easily splay the entire thing open. Good organization pockets.
This bag has so many pockets for organization of all my day to day stuff traveling all over the country as a manufacturing systems consultant. Laptop cords and adapters galore, no problem. Writing utencils and markers, notebooks, easy. I typically travel M-F and while its not big enough for that many days worth of clothes, I think you could probably get away with 48 hours worth of clothing in warm climates. Cold climates, its going to be pretty tight unless you wear anything ore bulky on your body. the front pocket could be flexed for many different uses. The back pocket is very thin but long. I really like the built-in structure that prevents the bag from collapsing over on itself.
So I have a Cabinet for hunting and was in the market for a new EDC backpack for work. I liked the size/shape of the Front, but it looked too tactical. I wanted something that had a cleaner look. The UA21 was nice but was too small and didn't have external water bottle pockets. When I saw the UA24, I thought I found the perfect EDC bag and it is close, but not quite perfect. Issue #1 the external side pockets. I guess MR was going for the sleek look, but I feel they missed the mark on these mainly because in order to use the pockets, you lose interior storage space because there is no stretch to them. This is a real bummer and also an issue because if you have solid objects inside of the main compartment, when you try to insert a water bottle, it can "hit" objects inside the bag that make it difficult to insert the water bottle. Stretch side pockets would be a significant improvement. Issue #2 which many others have mentioned is the fact that this bag cannot stand upright when you set it on the ground. I can also figure that the MR desgners were looking for a sleeker look when you are wearing the backpack, and on that point they succeeded, but every time you take off the pack and set it on the ground it will tip over. Like the issue with the water bottle pockets, I think this was a form vs function decision, and form won out. These two issues aside, the bag is very good. The dedicated laptop compartment is great. The lid compartment is perfect for sunglasses and a ditty bag with stuff I use all the time (USB cables, headphones etc). The tubular inside pockets hold my laptop power supply and another ditty bag with less frequently accessed items. The paracord pull tabs on all the zippers are VERY useful because the zippers are very robust and the pulls make it much easier to open the zippers vs. having to pull the tab. The main compartment is spacious, but would be more usable if my water bottle didn't intrude into this area. Overall it is a clean design, seems to have good quality (I have only had the bag for 1 month so far) and is comfortable to carry and holds everything I need. Hopefully MR reads these reviews and will improve the 2 issues in the next update of this bag. There still isn't a perfect EDC backpack, but this is pretty darn close.
Bought this to use as my general purpose backpack for my day to day work. It’s definitely worked extremely well for that. I can carry my laptop, iPad, all the accessories, AirPod Maxes and more. I love all the internal pockets to store my accessories. I’ve never been one who likes using a bag to store things like cables, etc and would rather it be built into the bag. The UA24 delivers. One thing that made this bag perfect for me was moving the foam padding between the laptop compartment and the front compartment. I found this trick from someone else who left a review and it’s made all the difference in the world in my opinion in comfort for me. You reach down to the bottom of the laptop compartment and you’ll find velcro you can pull to access the foam pad and pull it out. It’s not easy to get out and once you remove it you are likely not to get it back in, so make sure you really want it out be fore you remove it. Pros - Plenty of internal organization pockets and pouches - Dedicated compartment with a false bottom for up to a 15” laptop and up to an 11” iPad - The big front compartment can store a lot and the iconic three zip design makes getting to things in the front easy - The straps are really comfortable and the load lifters really make a big difference when the bag is loaded down - Built to last, I have no doubt this thing will last a long time. I’ve had it 2+ years already and it still look brand new Cons - The external water bottle sleeves do not stretch so they will take up capacity from the inside - The bag does not stand on it’s own, you will need to lean it up against something, relatively annoying - The iPad sleeve only holds up to an 11” iPad
I needed a backpack for everyday use that fit my large laptop (Dell Precision 7530) and this one fit the bill perfectly. It fits nicely and have room for an iPad too! The separate laptop compartment is what set this out against other choices.
Solid performer and very comfortable. I have used a military grade ASAP for a long time and love it. This is a similar design, but a bit larger. Good internal storage options for working accessories, and the laptop storage is well padded and accommodating. Good pack for business aesthetics and a two day overnight trip. As stated in other reviews, the pack does not stand on its own, but that is not an issue in my estimation. Stows well under an airplane seat and is comfortable to wear for long periods. It handles the weather well with the sealed zippers and is everything that I have come to expect for quality in a Mystery Ranch pack.
Recently retired my daily backpack and was happy to give this bag a shot. So far it’s been fantastic. The 24 is a perfect daily bag for me, not too small and holds everything I need, not too big an unnecessary. No problems with the exterior water bottle pockets, fits my bottles great. One thing I will share, I really like the waxed canvas material, but it doesn’t show up as waxed as I prefer. I spent the time and energy and waxed it myself with an old can of Barbour coat wax and it came out great. It’s a lot of work, but if you’re up for it I think it’s totally worth it. I’ve been nothing but happy with Mystery Ranch. Their hunting and firefighting gear is worth every penny. This backpack will see years of use.
I use this pack every day for work and in my personal life. I can easily pack two laptops, my personal computer and my massive Thinkpad for work including their chargers & cables, in the laptop compartment. All the little pockets & pouches in the main storage area make it easy to keep your stuff organized instead of just having it all piled in there. I only keep an easily concealable sub-compact on my person most of the time during the week but I'm able to keep a G19 with a folding brace and extra mags in the main sleeve, a full IFAK at the bottom of the main compartment, a DSLR & extra batteries and plenty of other peripheral tools and gadgets easily accessable. The top pouch has a ton of room for things I need quick access to like keys, wallet, smokes & lighter. Even when the pack is completely full it's comfortable to wear and I can get to pretty much anything I need without unloading the entire bag. It rains a lot in my area and the waxed canvas keeps my stuff dry even after running through a torrential downpour. On top of all that I get compliments on how good it looks. This is the most I've ever spent on a backpack for general use but I don't regret my purchase one bit
Has great organization and separate storage for a laptop or tablet. Very comfortable to wear. A great EDC pack especially as a computer/office pack. The third zipper is awesome for getting to the bottom of the pack. My only complaint is that there is not a lot of good organization to carry books or papers. To be fair, I have only used this once on a recent week long business trip. It was great to wear through the airport and rode easily enough in both the overhead compartment and under the seat and it was packed pretty full. Just need to use a little more to break in and work on organizing better. But, in the long run, it is hard to go wrong with a Mystery Ranch pack.
I purchased this pack a couple weeks ago and love it! It really fits well and conforms to my back better than any pack I've owned previously. It does feel bigger than other 24L packs I've owned, but that could be because it is a bit heavier and has more material. I love the versatility of it as I think it is a great pack for my New York City commutes, as well as traveling and trail hiking. Just be aware if you want to use the outside pockets it does take space away from the inside of the pack as they do not expand, but it also means it is very durable. I feel that most outside pockets that do expand tend to be the first things that tear on a pack.
