CDG Review
Hello Mountain Hardwear, Okay, I skied in these Bibs last weekend and here's the situation: 1) The Straps come off the "Hook Assembly" (shown in the attached photo) -- any twisting motion in the shoulders or removal of a backpack / putting on a backpack initiates this unhitching -- the fix is a solid buckle closure shown in the attached photo. 2) The Side Zippers go down on their own - there is no way to keep them down in a "Locked Position" as the removal of a layer, backpack or anything else that gets close to the Side Zip that's moving in an upward direction unlocks it -- the fix is a Velcro Closure which I've posted in a photo. 3) Other than the (2) line items above, I like them a lot -- the design is such that they allow unrestricted movement and articulate so are great for active use. Quick question: I was hoping to get compensated via Store Credit for the Seamstresses' Cost of fixing these Bibs -- the total was $20 -- would you please send me (via email) a Mountain Hardwear Code for this amount? Thanks!
Men's FireFall Bib
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Disclosure...I have yet to use the bibs in action. First impression, they seem to be fairly good quality for the price...they are not a three layer product and are therefore the fabric is not as tough a a three layer fabric. The zippers, seems, snaps, etc. all seem good quality. The suspenders staying in place is not an issue for me, as I have them as long as possible...but I could see an issue with the suspenders slipping down overtime. Sizing... I ordered both a large and medium to try on. I am 6 foot 1.5 inches with a 32 inch waist (proper waist measurement)...however I wear pants with a 34 waist. Both sizes fit...just differently. If I was looking for a little more room to fit larger layers, or wanted that look (definitely not huge, just a bit more roomy), than I would get the larges. I ended up going with the mediums however, after much deliberation. They fit a bit more technically...if that makes sense. Less baggy, no room for thick layers, just proper layering. I also would not be able to fit a puffy sweater or hoody under the overalls in the medium (could in the large).
Comfortably, thin, and fragile
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Initially I loved these bibs, the fit is excellent and the material repels moisture well (which we need out in the PAC NW!) while remaining breathable. I found the pockets to be excellent but I did find that the straps slip throughout the day. Unfortunately after riding 3 days in bounds the butt of these pants ripped during normal use and I was told in store and on the phone that it was not covered under warranty because the break occurred in the fabric which was a massive disappointment. I don't feel these pants are adequately built or perhaps mine were just thin. Either way be mindful and consider a more heavy duty material.
Sizing not good for me
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Was very excited to get this today. I ordered an XL short because I'm stocky. The good: This is yet another really well made MH product. Great weight, just the right amount of insulation. Love the materials. The bad: I couldn't zip the sides up. Anyone ordering an XL short is likely a little round (apologies if you aren't). The waist fit fine (I own 2 other pairs of MH XL short pants that fit me well), but it was really small through the torso. I'd understand tight, but not able to be zipped at all seems like a cut problem if the waist is sized ok. So bummed out these don't fit me, because they're really a nice bib
Great Ski Bib
Great ski bib. Totally wind and water proof and has thin layer of insulation. Surprisingly comfortable and don't ride up on you. Not sure why other reviewers are having issues with the suspender straps as mine have worked perfect with no issues. Maybe tighten them up a bit? The legs are a bit baggy and then it tightens up along the upper waist and mid section but that seems to be the design to prevent snow getting in. Full length leg zippers are a huge plus. Anyway, I really like these pants and am so glad I got rid of my old ones. I'm 6'1" 175 lbs and purchased the medium-long, which works great for me.
These Bibs are absolute fire...!
These Bibs are absolutely fire. You wouldn't think they are as legit as they are when not trying them on and just by looking at them. However, once you try them on, they are extremely comfortable, warm, easy to get in and out of, and they are so durable and waterproof!! Everything I need for the mountains and I am snowboarding 2 days a week on average. These bibs are worth every penny, have great hidden pockets built for convenience, and they even have a zipper on the crotch so you can use the bathroom without having to take the entire bibs off!
Missing some critical design features
I was super excited to wear these pants but soon found some major design flaws... the shoulder straps only connect with a loop of elastic webbing and an open ended plastic hook. I soon found that any activity would allow the webbing to unhook. I tried tightening it down but it still happened. Next the side zippers don't have secure mechanism to keep them from unzipping down the side. I think I need to return these...
Good, with some flaws.
The good: They’re warm without being hot, vent well, stay dry even after hours in the snow. The bad: If you’re skiing, the bib attachment is ok. If you’re snowboarding or doing anything that requires bending over, the shoulder straps will detach constantly. It should have a gate on the slide at least, but it would be better with a buckle instead. Second, the top side zippers like to fall a lot. I started getting a draft and realized they were down about 4”. Finally, the legs are too wide. I was wearing thermals and a pair of hiking pants underneath. It was comfortable, but the legs were huge. I could have easily fit a pair of insulated snow pants underneath along with everything else.
Poor bib connections:(
I have used twice so far and really like the bibs except where the bibs connect in the front there is only a medal clip holding them on that slips off with the slightest movement in the wrong direction. I had to make my own clip out of a snap together keychain. Now they are great.
Best Ski Bibs
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Ski patroller/ avalanche technician. 100+ day seasons. These are the best. I had a pair of mtn hrdwr bibs since 2001. Wouldn'tve needed to buy new except I hung my old faves too close to my wood stove. Fell asleep, woke to smell of melting Bibs. Now one leg has huge burn hole. Still use them for work. Bought mens sz med reg. black. I'm 6' 30" waist, 32" inseam, tons of room. Got 2d new pair sz small reg. Orange. Fit perfect. Love the bright orange. Great hi viz for skiing trees. Don't hesitate. Get these Bibs. They are the best all-around snow wear for any winter activity.
