I bought this for 2-4 day business travel. First, I love the light weight. No need for a heavy pack when carrying cloths, a laptop and more. Fits my 13" laptop perfectly. Easy to pack (although the main zippers could go down further) and the shell is TOUGH when tossed around. A few niggles. I wish the side pockets were a little deeper. Water bottle flipped out a few times. It would be amazing if the straps were clipped on at the bottom so I could flip them inside and use as a duffle. Not a deal breaker by any means. Love this pack and would buy again.
This backpack will be your best friend. It does it all, and it does it capably and confidently. It's light and versatile enough to function capably as an everyday bag, and isn't too big when not packed full. When fully packed, though, it'll hold everything you think you need and more; you could conceivably travel for weeks with only this bag. The materials and quality are exceptional; it feels like it'll last decades. It is of course somewhat organizationally lacking, but the pockets it does have are generally good enough for most uses. The brain pocket alone is the size of a purse, which is extremely helpful. The laptop compartment works really well to hold your laptop and tablet without taking too much storage space, and it's nice to be able to slip them in and out without worrying about moving stuff around inside. However, the laptop sleeve is a tight fit for my 15" laptop, and especially if my tablet is also in the compartment, it can be a bit tough to zip it closed; the compartment would benefit from being just a touch wider. Also you wouldn't easily be able to take your laptop out while wearing the bag, which may be annoying if you've got to get to it quickly, but generally it's not a problem. The TSA-approved design seems to have a decent success rate in US airports, but internationally you'll probably still have to take out your laptop and tablet. The front handle is surprisingly useful, and also is good for holding your bag on a suitcase handle when traveling. The water bottle pockets are cavernous and super elastic, and can handle pretty much anything you throw at them; long-term durability, however, may be an issue. The only major issues are the lack of a waist strap and the quality of the back panel. The absence of a waist strap is confounding; for a bag this size it would be extremely helpful, especially when hiking or running to catch a train, and wouldn't add much weight or space. The foam back panel is not raised much at all, and because there is no rigid frame, it smushes against your back and can get very sweaty very quickly. Both of these are extremely simple but significant issues, and hopefully they can be fixed in future designs. The addition of a rigid frame would be nice, as the bag is very large and soft, but it'd probably add size and weight and if you have a laptop in the compartment, it basically works as a frame anyway. It is convenient how wide the top compartment opens, but it would be nice if the zipper went all the way to the bottom of the bag, at least on one size, for full side access. Regardless, it's still easy enough to access the bag without taking everything out as it is. The daisy chains on the strap are another very nice touch, though the chest strap is just a bit too long. Even with these issues, this backpack really excels at doing what it has to do. Its beauty is in its simplicity, and if you just want to carry a lot of stuff without worrying about the durability of your bag, this is the one for you.
i use this for daily commuting to/from work on bike. pros/cons below: pros: 1. its a black hole. like stuff just keeps stuffing in there. 2. laptop frame is super secure (i have 15" macbook). i feel very confident. 3. black hole material is forever. im super rough with mine. 4. feather weight light weight. cons: 1. no internal frame. if you had a very heavy backpack for hiking or something it would be a problem. for commuting, with the laptop in you dont notice it. 2. i'm in the swamp and its not very breathable compared to a trampoline back. not a big deal for commuting but i'd be hesitant to take this on an all day hike in the southeast.
It is overall very well made but one drawback is that it is harder to get my stuff into it than it was in my old 30L pack. I suspect that this is because it is taller but narrower than my old pack and it does not expand as much. Overall good product but not a perfect fit for what I carry.
I come from backpacks with 8 different zippered compartments, which is nice, sometimes. I like having ONE big compartment so I don't have to fish around for my stuff and it has a great top loading pocket which is fairly large, for keys and such. Seems durable and rain resistant. Haven't travelled with it yet but will be taking it to Mexico in a month. For now, its been my daily work backpack and it's been great!
I’ve taken this on a business trip and a 4-mile hike so far. I can’t speak to the durability or the weather resistance so far. It was great for a carry-on and would almost certainly fit under the seat in front on a flight. For the hike it did get pretty warm on my back and I you can feel the stiffness of the laptop when it is in the sleeve. I’d like to give it five stars because I really like the feel and everything about it but I can’t without experiencing the durability and weather resistance.
Got this pack for my wife to use hauling kid gear and grownup gear around. Durable construction, taped seams, good design on zipper location and lots of pockets make for an all around great pack. Wife says it's the most comfortable pack she's ever worn.
this bag is well made and everything i expected, but i was disappointed that my 15" laptop was too wide for the sleeve by quite a bit.
This bag can pack a lot of stuff, but you will need packing cubes in order to organize it. I ended up returning it and got the Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC 26L, which in my opinion feels like it can fit more stuff in it, is smaller and more organized
So far so good! This is a well made bag. Plan to use this bag for travel. Only downside I can see is the the mesh water bottle sides in the long term.
