It is very difficult to find shoes like these. Perfect in every way for a large individual. I am six and a half and hover around two hundred. Been competing all my life and recently have switched to running on varying terrain for 8 plus miles rather than flat. These shoes house my size 15 feet amazingly! They run through dirt, pavement, sand, water smoothly and most important of all I feel no foot or joint pain after my run. Simply outstanding. As I said, this combination of excellent service in a running show is very hard to find in my size. Please never stop making them. I need to buy a backup pair now...THANK YOU
This shoe has excellent arch support! I’m a heavy set male and my feet ache often. Normally I wear Adidas and/or Nike Air, but gave Brooks a shot. It was a very pleasurable change. I’m impressed by the contoured design and overall quality of the shoe (material and stitching, as well as seams) but even more impressed by the comfort. I found myself changing shoes a couple times of day due to soreness in my feet prior to purchasing my new Brooks. Now I can go all day with my Brooks! Great shoe! Highly recommend! Especially for people that may suffer from plantar fasciitis. Try these!
Have not used these shoes for running yet. This shoe is excellent choice for winter months in the pacific northwest because the ground is always wet. No it's not a climbing or mountaineering shoe! Brooks customer service is what makes me a returning customer. IMO this shoe is much lighter than the Salmon Gore tex trail running shoes. My feet don't sweat in the Ghost 12 GTX prob bc itsmuch more breathable compared to Salmon's Gore Tex shoes. For some reason Salmon's Gore tex shoes wear out extremely fast. I look forward to buying brook shoes in the future!
I bought these for running in running in colder weather over the winter. This was a warm winter, but they did keep my toes comfortable (along with two regular socks) in temps as low as 18 F. Very good cushioning and arch support. Some people complain that they can hear the Gore Tex liner “crinkling”, true, but if you are outside that’s no concern, they kept my feet warm and in comfort during the colder months and that’s what counts. This is a fine shoe for heavier runners (I am 195). As for size order a 1/2 size up.
Two factors weighed into my decision to return these. While I have used the non-GTX Ghost before, these felt stiffer across the top of my feet and left me in pain for a week after a short break-in run. This was an experience that I have never had before in running in many, many pairs of Brooks over the last several years. Secondly, I need some support in my shoes and wonder why, if Brooks is going to offer a Gore-Tex option, it would not be available in the more popular Adrenaline model.
waterproof has worked good so far and they don't seem to be a lot hotter or make my feet sweat any worse than most typical shoes. The tread is good for road running and hard surfaces as it is a rubbery tread not like that of a trail running shoe which has a hard rubber tread. I love the looks of them. They are comfortable and feel good for running and being active but i do prefer my hoka bondi 5 for work where i am standing around more, they are more cushioned.
These make a "wishing" noise with every step. I thought they would need to be "broken in" but I am 200 miles past that point. I am not sure if there is a manufacturing defect but the noise is more obvious than I had hoped for. The ghost, is my favorite model of all brooks running shoes. Other than the wishing noise, these are no different. GTX works great for trail and/or winter running. I am in WI so they work nice for ice/snow covered trails and paths.
I got these to use this winter so I have only run in them twice at this point. They were very comfortable from the moment I put them on. Great support without being too stiff. They are also a lot lighter than I thought they would be. When I finished my run, my feet were warm, which I will really appreciate when the weather gets cold! The only negative is that they make noise. It’s not that loud and I run with music so I didn’t notice it that much.
Not nearly as good as my old favorite Ghost 10 GTX. For one thing, this is the noisiest Brooks running shoe I've ever owned- even my husband hears it clunk, only in one foot, mind you. And the padding is woefully inadequate compared to the Ghost 10 GTX. It's an unfortunate evolution away from what was a nearly perfect design to one that will require expensive insoles to make it useable, and even then I expect it to clunk upon flexing.
I've worn the Ghost line for years and they've become my go-to model. I found a good price for the GTX version here @ REI and ordered a pair. The fit turned out to be very tight across the ball of the foot, even after loosening the laces. As I walked around in them, I found they had a noise similar to canvas being folded/unfolded with each foot strike. I'll be returning them and gong back to the standard Ghost shoes.
