Different but better

My previous pair of Brooks Cascadia shoes were Cascadia 12’s. I loved that version so much I bought them twice. When I got these Cascadia 14’s I wasn’t sure I liked them at first because both the tongue and heel were much less padded, which I thought might cause me discomfort. However, they are very comfortable. They hug my feet but have some stretch- they’re not too tight. I’ve worn them quite a bit for a couple of weeks and they have been comfortable the entire time even while walking several miles on maintained dirt trail in a national park. Disclaimer- I don’t use these as running shoes. I wear them as my everyday shoes.

Got me through the PCT!

I used this shoe to thru-hike the PCT. These shoes were phenomenal - I didn't get a single blister and my feet had lots of cushion. I replaced these every 500 miles, since a tear would form where the shoe bends at the toe-foot joint and the stiffness of the sole would decrease to the point where walking on rocky trails really hurt my feet. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because the upper shoe fabric let in sooo much dust and sand in sandy conditions. I would regularly have to take these shoes off and POUR out sand. But I would still do it all over again with these shoes, since I imagine lots of other trail runners have the same problem.

Great traction, zero cushioning.

And the shoe has some awesome traction. But what it provides in these two areas, is insufficient given the pounding your feet get from virtually no cushioning at all. It's a bit hard to believe that there is "more" cushioning in this shoe than the Cascadia 13. It felt like I was walking on pavement, not trail. My calves ached, my toes hammered the foot bed and begged for mercy. I'm so disappointed because I cannot wait to put on my levitates. They are the most comfortable running show I've ever owned. But I literally fear putting my feet back in the Cascadia 14s for the pounding my feet will get. I guess I'll need to find some gel insoles to make they work.

Disappointing wear

I have been a loyal Cascadia fan for more than a decade. I typically purchase four pairs per year, wear them for about 5 miles, and then donate them (they are typically still in great shape.) Cascadia 14 is the first time I have ever been disappointed. I don’t know if there’s something different with the fabric inside the shoe or if the fit makes my heels rub more, but all four pair have ripped out on the inside of the heels. I only was able to wear each pair about 400 miles. Hoping for better from Cascadia 15.

Solid Shoe that fits like a glove!!

Absolutely love these shoes. I've been a Brooks loyalist, so was really bummed when the Adrenaline Trail shoes were discontinued. I tried the Cascadia GTX 12's a couple years back as a replacement and the seam from where the GoreTex tongue was attached to the inner shoe continually bothered me - it feltl ike two rocks putting pressure and rubbing my upper food. Because of that, I tried a bunch of different brands (Salomon, La Sportiva, Hoka) to find a replacement, to no avail. I came back to give the newer Cascadias another shot, and they fit like a glove. No need to break them in, incredible traction, and comfortable.

Nice but too wide

These shoes are undoubtedly comfortable and with good grip. They transition nicely from trail to road. Love the laces. I can't give them a ringing, universal endorsement, though, because as someone with narrow heels, these shoes are unwearable for anything other than short, straight runs. I've tried a million different socks with them, but so far nothing has been exactly right. I recognize this as a great shoe, though, so I'm giving it 4 stars even though I personally can't really wear them except for on little mini jogs around the neighborhood. If there was a narrow-width option available, these would be a dream.

AaaaMAZING trail shoes!!

These shoes have been a lifesaver for me! I have a very challenging 25k coming up and have tried every top rated trail shoe out there. I have many diff pairs of solomon...they rub my arches and are unstable when running. I have two diff la sportivas, one pair is to hard for a long run and the other is to padded and my ankle rolls. My Salewas are comfy, but also cause ankle and instability when running. I tried the New Balances with built in gaitors, great shoe but rubbed the top of my ankle. I have the Hoka Speedgoat, they are stable and padded, but they hurt the arches of my feet, assuming because they are a neutral shoe with limited support. I tried the Asics trail Fujitrabaco, but they were super heavy and clunky. Now, these Brooks...incredible. I recently started road running in Brooks and was immediately hooked, switching me from Asics, so I thought Id try Brooks for the trails. These shoes are comfy enough to get me to the trail from the road and then transition nicely to the trail. The 8mm drop is like the perfect balance for a trail shoe as well. They have great grip for rocks and are very stable. There is also a rock gaurd built in the sole to dampen some of the impacts. I paired them with Ultra gaitors and am off for miles (I hate getting pebbles and dirt in my shoes). Im typically trail running 10 to 15 miles in these and have no issues. I have a narrow foot, but if you like Brooks road shoes, you wont be dissapointed with these. My only complaint is the color scheme, but they end up covered in mud anyhow! Also, the lace garage on the tongue is small and requires some shoving to get the laces in it, but I can deal!

Very Happy Walker. Not just for runners.

I’m a mature 78 year old walker. Cascadia have been my go to walking shoe for several years. The first model I wore was the 11. The 14 is as comfortable except in the snow, wind or rain. No longer weather protective. I’ve since noted for a cost I could have gotten the additional protection which came with the 11. A bit too expensive for fixed income! YET they are a blessing to my feet, I will pay the extra for my next pair, I just might have to wait longer. Now put that comfort in a wee bit dressier shoe for slacks and my feet will be thankful. Keep up your great shoe manufacturing.

Brooks shoes

These shoes didn’t seem as substantial as previous Brooks shoes, probably because they are lighter, but I wear them daily and have for several months. They are holding up very well and are incredibly comfortable with the stretchy tongue across my high arch. I am a super pronator and these shoes seem supportive so far. In fact these are so comfortable I wear them hiking moderate trails in WV (if weather is dry)instead of my waterproof hiking shoes that I love, too. I’d buy these again, and will. I normally wear an 8 shoe but bought the 9 which works well. Lots of room in the toe box.

Disappointed

Ran a 20k this morning in my new 14s and I quickly realized how much these aren’t like the previous version. Gone is the rugged reinforcement that would hug around the toe box. Weirdly the toe box is more narrow but the rest of the shoe seems wider. I had to stop to cinch up the laces as my feet were sliding within the shoe. The biggest thing I’ve noticed is the sole is much more tacky...which is awesome on the downhills but very unforgiving if you brush any rock with the bottom of your foot- and in AZ, the trails are pretty much all rock. I’ve never had so many near falls in any other trail shoes! These shoes are prob awesome on forest trails, but I have lost my confidence in these on the trails I run on.
