I’ve had this jacket for less than a month and have only worn it several times. I love the fit and design, but I’m really concerned about the down which is literally coming out of every stitch and you can see from the photos how many seams there are!! I’ve never seen this before, but maybe because it is heavily filled? Others have complained about the zippers, but they seem fine to me. I’m going to see if the down stops, but if not, it’s going back, especially for the price!
I bought this for a trip Northern Alaska and Yukon Territory Canada. I wore this is in -5'f with a t shirt underneath and was very comfortable while in and out of the car hiking and doing some photography. It was light weight and not bulky which was great when I was toting both cameras on me. This is definitely a keeper and well worth the cost.
Fits perfectly. I'm 6ft 1in, 170lbs, and the medium fits perfectly. The cut is nice and is why I chose it over the nanopuff which was too bulky in the midsection. Other reviews have mentioned problems with the pocket zippers which has not been my experience, and I keep my cell and coivd mask in both chest pockets, using them constantly. I also saw reviews about down feathers popping out and I've probably only had 3-5 that I've seen and I have worn this jacket non-stop since Christmas. It provides great warmth, but is not too stuffy to keep on when things warm up a bit (i.e. cold morning w/ warming day). I was so happy with this jacket that I got my wife the similar womens version which she loves.
This is the most stylish down jacket I've seen. I like the number of pockets, the fact that this current version has insulated hand warmer pockets now (unlike when it first came out), and it's trim fit. However, one thing that is too trim is the armpit hole. The breathable fabric they use in the armpit and the large/thick seam it leaves, coupled with the somewhat narrow opening, make anything more than a single thin layer on (e.g. T-shirt or light sweater) too much. I may update this review after I give it some more time to test its warmth and if the armhole is just too tight for me.
I purchased a Spyfire three years ago and could not be happier w/ the performance and especially the fit. I'm 5'10 185 lbs (44R) and the Large fits like a glove. Although I think it appears a bit 'spacey' looking it is quite warm and functional. There is a convenient pocket on the left sleeve to access small items and a larger mesh pocket inside the interior of the jacket. Since that company that rhymes with 'Phatagonia' is so ubiquitous in the Bay Area it is refreshing to wear something else that performs just as well.
Another sub-par outdoor company
I have a micro puff jacket that is good for cool temperatures but not Midwest winters. This jacket wasn't much thicker than my puff jacket so I was concerned it might not work but I find it is plenty warm and so has replaced a much bulkier traditional coat. If I get too hot I just unzip it. With pockets on each side, two on the chest, and one on the arm there's plenty of places to store gloves and phone. There's also an interior mesh pouch.
I love this down jacket. It is cozy in above freezing temperatures even on windy days, and it is thin enough to use as an under layer when wearing a heavier down parka. I am normally size L but needed to buy XL for this jacket. One improvement would be to add thin nylon cord pulls onto the main zipper and pocket zippers as well to make the zippers easier to find and use.
Love this coat. It’s warm, breathable, light & incredibly engineered. The shoulders are made of more durable material, the stuffing sides thinner & near nonexistent in the armpits. It’s not too warm when in the car or in buildings for 20 mins when passing through. It’s slightly thinner than I expected but still gets the job done & done well. Five stars.
I agonized on selecting a down jacket. Tried on OR, TNF, and Marmot. This fit best. Great length in arms and waist. Love the reinforced areas. Love too that it doesn’t have the typical puffy jacket look. I’d say this is cut like a motorcycle jacket.
