Best hiking & backpacking shoes yet!
Just finished 100 miles in the high Sierra with these shoes, 66% on trail and 33% off trail/cross-country and they are AWESOME!! I have used lightweight boots like the Arcteryx Acrux TR as well as trail runners like Altra's etc - and these Danner shoes are better than either. Cushy and comfortable like trail runners with better support and just enough stiffness and sole protection while still wayyyy freer feeling than any kind of boots. I wore them in 65° to 30°F conditions, including rain and hail. They did well in the wet, my feet stayed warm. Traction is OK; I would love stickier rubber, but I realize it's a trade-off with durability.
Danner hiking shoes
First time trying Danner hiking shoes. They are super comfortable. Did two significant hikes back to back in two days. Feet were comfortable the entire time.
A great all around hiking shoe and daily wearable.
I bought these about 10 months ago and use them as daily walkers. I have also use them a few times on challenging hike and they grip very well. They are very comfortable especially after they are throughly broken in.. I wear a size 14 wide and they are “true to size”
Good light weight hiking shoes but...
I really liked these shoes--they were super comfortable and light weight, but maybe not the best for big hikes or a lot of mud (I'm in SE Alaska). However, this year, the heels started to delaminate--not something I would expect after a year of use. (there is plenty of tread left on the sole).
Comfortable Shoe
I bought the shoes specifically for hiking in the smokey trails. They were very comfortable from the start which is good since I had no time to break them in. I am by no means an expert hiker, but these provided excellent grip traversing rocky trails. They provided sure footing through multiple hikes. We hiked Chimney Top trail which included rocks, mud, water, and sharp shale with no issues. I would buy again.
Fit & Toughness I Needed
I just completed a 3 day backpacking trip in the Sawtooth Wilderness with my new Danner Men's Trail 2650 shoes. This included a 15 mile hike one day mostly on sharp rock. I purchased these shoes because my previous hiking shoes from a different company did not last even one trip before the tread tore and was not able to be repaired. After my trip I carefully inspected both shoes and they are in perfect condition. This shoe is, for me, extremely stable and comfortable. The most comfortable hikers I've worn. I do understand that people have very different feet & shoe needs, but this is my personal experience. This review is totally unsolicited. I thought I better share the good news.
Good shoe but with a few issues...
The shoes were true to size and felt good for about six months. After that, the sole the shoe started to wear pretty considerably. Also, whenever the shoes get wet, they start to bleed dye onto your socks and feet. On the contrary, they are great for rocky terrain and have rubber on the tips to prevent toe stubbing. However, I would not order these shoes again or recommend them to others since there are better alternatives out there. Most recently I took them on a five day backpacking trip and significantly regretted not purchasing a new shoe beforehand. Overall, the shoes were alright, but for the price, I expected a lot more out of them.
No Sole!
I bought what I hoped to be a premium hiking shoe but have been very disappointed. The sole ended up being soft and pliable and started to peel away at the heel. The toe area began to show wear after very little use.
Short life
After a year of general wear, the sole started coming unglued. Pretty short life for the price and brand
No regrets
These are the best. They look awesome, everyone loves the red laces, and, most importantly, they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. Seriously, if you’re in store just put them on. I really didn’t want to buy these (they’re expensive), but that’s how comfortable and good-looking they are. No regrets. I took these on a 13 mile grueling Adirondack hike with 5,000 ft elevation gain and they cruised the whole way.
