Amazing Pants! I bought two pairs and have used them paddle boarding, hiking, running, cycling, bouldering, casually out and to work. The mobility of the pants is fantastic, even contorted in strange positions climbing the face of rocks they didn't give me any feeling of restriction. For paddling, I took them out early morning in the coastal waters off northern Washington in 50 degree weather before sunrise and paired them with some light long underwear. Even being wet from walking the board out, the pants still kept me warm by blocking out the wind. If you're looking for pants that are durable, functional, mobile and look good, these are a great choice.
The Ferrosi pants are a near-perfect choice for warm weather activities where you still want full leg coverage. The stretch makes high stepping, jumping over a log, or rock hopping a breeze. They're extremely thin/light (re: very quick drying) yet surprisingly durable. I've used them canyoning which will typically eat up your gear, but they don't show much evidence of such. My only real complaint is the MINISCULE hobbit-sized pockets... I am by no means a large person and I can only fit my fingers up to my knuckles in the hand pockets. The thigh pocket barely can fit a very slim wallet- forget about putting your phone in there without a fight, if at all. That said, I can still fit a pocket knife, pen, etc in the front pockets, which 90+ % of the time is what'll be going in there anyway. All in all, these are awesome pants and there's a reason I have 3 pairs.
I've been using these pants for a few years now and have nearly every color. I travel a lot for work and they are great pants for long flights that also allow a good look for the business lounges. These pants also pack very well and wrinkles fall out quick. My work takes me to very hot and humid remote jungles and these pants perform great. Additionally, I'm often times in a confined space such as a helicopter. When we get a short notice overnight night mission I always have a pair of these pants in my grab bag because they compress and pack up so well. When I'm home in Idaho I wear these hiking, climbing, hunting, fishing, dinner parties, etc etc. Even in the winter I've worn these over base layers and they are warm enough. They fit true to size if anything they are a bit on the large side. I'm 6ft 190lb and sometimes a 34 waist can run snug in the hips and buttock but these fit really well. Plenty of stretch and room for movement.
I run hot, took two new pair to hike the STS and glad I did. Key points: cool enough with temps in the 80s, hike up easy (cross streams), walked dry after being drenched by rain, and kept insects at bay (used little-to-no repellent on my legs). So why not for the faint? Cost, especially if you don't see clothes as tools. Being new, after 84 miles, my pants are visibly frayed from the toothed edges and stiff hairs (irritate skin) of Stinging Nettle weeds lining the entire trail. Although the plant aged my new pants I still highly recommend them because they protected my skin ... they are not for you if you expect these pants to look new forever!
First wear experiences are of a light weight comfortable pant that I can see becoming a regular casual item. Could run in them but I see them as being a regular hiking, dog walking, shopping, commuting pant. The 30 inch inseam is just a touch long for my micro legs but the drawstring set up neatly deals with the excess and keeps it from under my feet. Material feels tough but light, like the colour.", pockets are high on the hip but deep, swallow a phone and feel secure. Zip side and back pocket are useful. Will make a good addition to the wardrobe for travel days too. Will be looking to try the transit system ant next as a potential work trouser.
I've been buying Ferossi pants since 2010. I have multiple pairs, finally they made a fatige green color, so I purchased a pair. When I received them I put them on and was shocked when my hands went no further than fingers deep. The pockets are so shallow it's like a kids pair of pants. I actually laughed out loud at the absurdity of the shallowness. I see a few other people have written on here about the too short pockets. I don't know if this is a new "design feature" or they've gotten a bad run in production, but this is very disappointing. I will be returning them since they're now out of my size. Next year hopefully they'll produce the color again.
I've been using Ferrosi pants primarily for cool to hot weather rock climbing and fitness hikes. These pants are super lightweight and comfortable. They never inhibit your movement and never get in the way. It's almost like wearing nothing. They are also super durable, showing no signs of wear from the rock or the hiking after a ton of use. I don't have a single complaint about these at all. I really don't know how they could be any better.
I recently went to a baseball game with coworkers. The forecast called for some drizzling, and so my partner and I decided to keep the outfits as "waterproof" as possible. These pants are so light and breathable, if I didn't feel it brush against my legs as I walked, it almost felt like nothing was there. Also, when some condensation from my cup fell onto my leg, I brushed it off the pants with no problem - the water beaded and brushed right off. I wish these had a bit more of a taper because I personally like the look and feel of a tapered pant leg. Other than that, though, these pants are perfection.
The Ferrosi pants are amazing! They are better than any other type of hiking/outdoor pants I have ever used before. Water falls right off them when moving through underbrush and they are durable enough to scrape against rock or get caught on branches without any concern for tearing. I've used them on a few backpacking trips so far and have been stoked with their performance. They are light, warm, and breathable. I am 6' 3" and got the long size and they fit perfectly. The only downside I've found is the front pockets seem too small for my liking. I wish they were deeper to fit items more securely. Other than that they are fantastic and I am sure I'll be happy to have them for years to come.
Great Fabric, Great pants. But sizing isn't really for me. I'm 5' 9" and 166 pounds. I ordered 32" at first and those were butt huggers. Super tight on the butt. And were tight on my waist. So I ordered the 33" and these are actually longer than the 30", so I'm stepping on the pants when I walk without shoes and the waist is loose, so I have to wear a belt. The sizing is weird. Maybe this is a rockclimbing thing. I'm not a rock climber. I'm a morning walker and sometimes hiker. I just like OR and their products, including these very breathable, cool-feeling windproof pants that don't fit right.
