Quick, Easy, Durable

The powerlink is an amazing little thing. Very easy and quick to connect your chain. It's a little tricky making sure you have the opposite side from you locked in fully as well, but once you do it's easy riding from there!

CN-PLCK-12S-A1 Eagle PowerLock, not for road!

Not CN-PLCK-D1, as illustrated in the picture. This is actually CN-PLCK-12S-A1, specific to Eagle MTB drivetrains and stamped EAGLE above the direction indicator, not SRAM. Like others below, I thought I was buying 12-speed powerlocks for road. Glad I checked the blister cards in store before I left with my pickup order, but not impressed that this error occurred. Even less impressed when looking at reviews on REI's site and seeing I'm not the first person to encounter this specific issue. I called a second REI, and the wrench there said this was a worldwide shortage and that they could get any quick link on the market other than this one. This review is specific to REI's handling of the product rather than the product itself—I'm sure this is just fine if you're replacing the powerlock on your MTB chain. But for us roadies, this is a no go.

Wrong product description

Same as other reviewer - the product I received was not the one depicted or described here. It had sram eagle inscribed on the link and said for use with that type of chain only, not the 12 speed road chains.

Carry a spare and mini chain tool.

I always carry a spare and mini chain tool. Not much else to say except the arrow is redundant with the flat top. If the flat is out then the arrow will point in the correct direction, and if the arrow is pointing in the correct direction, then the flat top will face out.

Carry one in repair kit

Needed if you break a chain riding, or need to adjust length. Have a recumbent trike, switching to 12 speed, which involves trial and error regarding chain length. It the link is 1 time use.

There if I need it

Something I hope I never need but always there in case of emergency. Simple, affordable, small, and lightweight - an essential part of any trailside repair kit.
