Sturdy and Easy to Install
Sturdy, easy to install and fits my Co-op ADV 2.2. Only complaint is the paint is easily scratched (one use) and a hacksaw is needed to trim the extra long posts.
Great rack, some confusion about installation
I have not yet had a chance to try this rack out because of having to order the extra parts mentioned below. I did get it installed. Thought I would let everyone know about how this fits a Salsa Cutthroat. I just purchased a 56cm Cutthroat. If you just order this rack, it WILL NOT work without the following 2 items: (1) Salsa Rack-Lock Seat Collar 32.0 (2) Salsa Bent Rack Struts 45d 8mm I got both from modernbike.com The Cutthroat does not have a way for the struts to connect to the bike, that's why you need the mentioned collar (1). The straight struts that come with the rack will NOT work with a 56cm Cutthroat, that's why the bent struts are necessary (2). I'm going to guess that's probably true for the other other Cutthroat sizes.
Perfect Rack for Salsa Journeyman
Super easy installation on my 2020 Journeyman Apex1 (if you have basic mechanical aptitude). Works great with my Ortleib Backroller Paniers and with straps for securing irregular loads such as fly rods and waders.
2,000 miles, lots of groceries / work rides
Has this on my Salsa Journeyman Sora 700, and it was awesome. I always left it on even when I was doing gravel. This regularly hauled my groceries with my Thule 24 liter panniers (48L total), and it was great. Pay the $5 extra for the rear light mount so you can clip a rear light to it. I’ve also used panniers for commuting to work and for pavement/gravel bikepacking multiple times, and it’s great.
Buyer Beware
The rack is easy to install on the bike BUT you have to cut the struts to get a proper fit. This means you will need a sturdy hacksaw to cut them down to size. This is disappointing considering the price. I have a Journeyer Claris 700c size 55 and after installing the rack successfully I realized the struts needed to literally be cut shorter resulting in less stoke.
Seems perfect so far on my Cannondale Topstone 4
This rack fits my XS Cannondale Topstone 4 (37C 700 tires), and seems to work well so far: it feels very secure, doesn't rattle or make any noise, and isn't as heavy as I'd expected. As other reviewers mentioned, its long struts will likely require trimming with a hacksaw. However, the strut length is customizable so that one rack can accommodate many different bike sizes. Trimming to length was very easy with the cheapest hacksaw I could find. In the world of bike accessories, some level of DIY is not unusual or unexpected! Knocked off one star because the install was a little tricky even with proper tools. Keeping the rack perfectly level while tightening all the moving parts proved harder than I'd expected.
Fits great
Installed the HD version of this on a 2012 Salsa Fargo 3 w/o fender. Cleared a 29" x 2.3" knobby tire with minor effort. You may have to flip the orientation of the struts so they are further out from center - I also had to cut the backend of the strut very short ~3/8" to clear. Works great, looks great
Very Pleased!
After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit concerned about installation of this rack; however, turns out it's really not a big deal. As others have stated you will need to measure the struts and cut them to the needed length to obtain the correct fit. The struts are very long to give margin for all the different fitments needs depending on frame geometry. Anyway, it took maybe 5 minutes to cut the struts to the length needed using a hacksaw, and another 10 or minutes to mount. Remember the adage to measure twice and cut once. Also, having a level handy will help to make sure there's no tilt as you begin to tighten the screw and bolts. The one thing that is a bit quirky is the placement of the nut to tighten the struts. They are right up against the tubing which makes tightening them a little awkward. You will need a 10mm open end wrench for that task. Anyway, once mounted then rack is rock solid with no wobble - very sturdy. I'm very happy with it. Hope this helps!
Rack did not fit bike
Before ordering this rack, I contacted Salsa directly to confirm which rack would fit my bike, a 2012 Salsa Fargo 3. Salsa suggested the Wanderlust. It did not fit, and now I need to return this to REI, and pay for return shipping. The rack itself might be fine, but it is not useful to me. Disappointing.
Unnecessarily difficult to install.
This rack is unnecessarily difficult to install. The bolt that tightens either strut into place is wedged behind a stay so that it's exceptionally difficult to tighten into place. Seems to just be a poor design. Salsa claims that the rack is a perfect fit for their Journeyman, but fitting will require cutting both struts so they don't stick up through the rack. A little disappointed in this one.
