Great Looking
Let me say first off this helmet if the best one I have owned! I have a giant head and all other helmets sit goofy. This helmet actually fits over my head instead of just on top. Very stylish and fits fantastic! I do wish the strap was longer since I have a beard.
Nice but not great for oval-shaped heads
I was looking for a cute, stylish alternative to my Giro road helmet and this helmet suits the bill pretty well. There are some drawbacks, however: 1) This helmet seems to fit better for people with round heads. The Thousand helmet, despite fitting looser on me than my Giro helmet, pinches my head in certain areas, most noticeably around the temple area. As a comparison, my Giro helmet fits snugly with no discomfort despite being smaller. When I tried sizing up to see if that would help, the helmet was comically large on me, like the Rick Moranis character from Spaceballs. 2) The ventilation on the helmet could be better. In hot weather, my hair sometimes ends up a sweaty, matted mess. A traditional, open road helmet is better suited for warm weather as you might expect. 3) The Thousand helmet weighs noticeably more than a regular road helmet. I definitely feel it more when I'm riding. Despite these drawbacks, I still think the helmet is a good alternative for anyone trying to avoid the general dorkiness of traditional bike helmets.
looks great
I honestly hate wearing helmet, ironically I work in the hospital so I better wear one when I ride my bike, I don’t wear it because I don’t like how any helmet looks on me. Call it fashion but that’s the truth. But when I discover thousand helmets, it’s a game changer. Not only it looks great but good quality, fashionable and it even has a hidden lock hole. I wear my helmet when I ride my long board and my bike happy. I totally recommend this item. Go on YouTube for reviews. It’s worth it.
Great helmet, but mine came flawed
The helmet itself is great. But mine came with the magnetic buckle not threaded with the strap. I noticed this when I went to make the first adjustment. There is no way to thread the buckle without cutting the strap (or the buckle) since the end of the straps are riveted to the helmet. Am I missing something?
Great helmet with a few caveats
I've worn this helmet several times over a period of 3 weeks nows. Compared to other similar helmets on the market, it's a bit more expensive. However, Thousand is the only brand out there that I know that offers many colors and styles. It's also one of the few helmets that I actually like wearing. After riding it for a few weeks, I've come to notice a few things: 1. For me, the helmet is comfortable for up to an hour. After that, I start to feel pressure around my head, especially in the forehead. I may see if I can find additional paddings. 2. When it's windy, the vents on the helmet tends to make a whistling sound when I turn my head slightly (i.e. to check my blind spot). 3. The buckle on the vegan strap can't be moved, so it always sits to the side of your chin. Overall, great helmet. Hoping that they will be able to add in features from their new Chapter collection to the Heritage collection in the future (i.e. MIPS, lightweight, rear lights, more vents, etc)
stylish but idiosyncratic fit
I don’t recommend buying this helmet without trying it on in-store. It does not come with extra foam inserts (TBH I’ve never before encountered a helmet that doesn’t), and the strap (which is poorly made and stiff) is minimally adjustable. I ordered the right size according to my head measurements, and could not adjust it (given minimal adjustment options) to a fit that was comfortable even for a moment. If you have the right head shape, this helmet might fit you. But there’s literally no way to make it work if it doesn’t.
Form over Function?
This helmet seems to have more invested in style than anything else. I haven't used the lock port as it seems flimsy and prone to breaking. The venting seems alright. The overall comfort is average. My biggest complaint is with the dial fit system. The tension is either slightly tight or slightly loose for me, slightly loose wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the visor. The visor is a big hindrance when one has their head down as it reduces one's field of vision. I suppose it would be an ok helmet if one always rode upright and didn't lean forward. For riding my grocery getter, an old Peugeot, this stays on the wall at home as it's too dangerous losing my peripheral vision when I lower my head in traffic.
Amazing Helmet
I’ve had this helmet for a couple years. I just had a crash yesterday and hit my head pretty hard. This helmet protected me well and I am happy with the performance so I am going to buy a new one. I use mostly for my daily commute and I do not get helmet hair at all. So another perk.
Good impact coverage, but no anti-twist liner.
This helmet provides good coverage, but my dark gray model is invisible at night. It also lacks an inner liner that would mitigate twisting forces caused by glancing impacts. The top air vents emit a distracting whistle when underway. The waterproof coating of the Sugoi helmet cover appeared to react with the Thousand helmet surface, leaving indelible, unsightly marks.
Returned
The comfort padding is very minimal, just some extremely thin padded strips so wasn't very comfortable for a bald head. Return because the comfort padding at the front began pealing apart and the cover to the bike lock hole broke off. Seems like a high price for a nice design, which doesn't look as good in size L.
