I got this primarily for day hikes, but I plan to use it on bike rides too. Easily fits my ten essentials with room to spare. I like that I can attach my trekking poles to it. I'm a 5'5" fat woman and it fits me comfortably. I got the man version to ensure the hip belt would fit. The mesh side pockets are big enough to hold a 32 oz nalgene securely, although I can't easily reach it while the pack is on. I plan to use a water bladder when biking. The hip pockets are smallish; can only hold a couple cliff bars at a time. Materials and zippers seem to be good quality. My only gripe is that the shoulder straps aren't the best shape for my lady chest, but I expected that since it's a man's pack. Overall I like it and I'm happy with my purchase.
I've been using this pack non-stop since last summer, and it suits my needs perfectly. I tried a bunch of day packs, and this one felt the most comfortable to me, without any awkward pressure points that begin to rub after a few hours on the trail. As far as sizing, I am 5'10" 160 and it fits perfectly. I don't know why the one reviewer said it was like a kids pack, unless he thought he was supposed to wear the hip belt low like his pants belt, instead of up on top of the hip bones where it is supposed to be.
I got this pack for our honeymoon to the Costa Rican rainforest and it was perfect. We got rained on a few times and while it isn't waterproof, my things stayed dry for much longer than I expected. I'm a woman and 5' 8" and the pack fits me very well. The straps are a bit wide (which I expected getting a men's bag) but using the chest strap helps. It fits a lot and I almost always had my DSLR in the bottom with a rain jacket, and snacks in the main compartment with room to spare. In the small pocket I could fit my passport, wallet, kindle, phone, and some smaller accessories. In the helmet pocket I kept a journal, and three different glasses/sunglasses cases along with my Nalgene in the side pocket. I packed it full but it never felt bulky. Great pack for traveling and day hiking!
This is hands down one of the best small/fast packs I've ever owned. I've used it from Zion to the Adirondacks; it's definitely on the smaller side, but between the expandable outer pocket and wisely packing, it easily carries enough to support you for a long 12-14 hour day - 5L water (3L bladder&2 nalgenes), outerwear, food, poles, and emergency gear stuff it comfortably but not overly full. The suspension system is absolutely incomparable for such a tiny bag; the skinny little waistbelt somehow still puts a good bit of the load onto your hips, and the straps are perfect for my size (5'10)...once it's all adjusted right and settled in it's snug but not tight, effortlessly moves with your body - I can actually run with a full load without any serious bouncing or instability. 6/5 stars, would recommend with no reservations whatsoever.
I bought this pack for biking--but intend on using it for hiking as well--and I love it. The top and bottom straps help secure the bag while riding, and the easy-access strap pockets make grabbing my wallet/keys very easy (the strap pockets are relatively small, but easily fit those items). The pack also has an easy access pocket at the top of the bag, making it convenient to store/quickly grab larger items. The pack has an 18 liter capacity, so it is on the smaller side.
This pack is advertised as one size. It's appears to be a kids pack. Very disappointing it wasn't accurately described. Have always loved my REI purchases. Don't buy this one
