[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been wanting a colder bag for a few years now, but wasn't willing to buy a cheaper synthetic one. This one was 50% off when I bought it. I have used my other bag now since 2005 and it still works perfectly (although it does have a slight odor now), but it doesn't handle extreme temperatures anymore. I haven't used this one yet, but I know that the high quality build of this bag and the brand means I will get many years of great use from this bag.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Phantom Torch is the first Mountain Hardware product I have owned. I tested the bag on a three-day trip, sleeping solo inside my 3-man tent down to temperatures of 25F and it performed flawlessly. The bag was comfortable and the zipper worked with no snags. I found the bag to be roomier than my previous mummy sleeping bag, so it’s easy to roll over if you prefer to sleep on your side. The drawstring design for adjusting the hood works well. There is also a set of internal baffles, top and bottom, located at the shoulder level, which serve to prevent warm air escaping out the hood. These internal baffles are also drawstring adjustable which is a great design feature, and this is key to getting full insulation capability out of the bag. Overall, I’m impressed with the quality of construction and design of this sleeping bag, and I would buy it again.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been very pleased with this product - incredibly warm for such a light bag. Kept me toasty on a bivy night at 12,500' in the sierras in the middle of winter. Only minor issue is that the zipper can sometimes be difficult to open/close. This seems to be a common issue among MHW products. Overall, this sleeping bag is world class!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Lightweight, very warm, zipper is easy to use and doesn't snag easily. Compresses down very small in provided compression stuff sack. Bag unpacks and lofts easily. Surprising how much the down expands when unpacking. Very impressed overall with this product. This is my 2nd MH sleeping bag and they continue to make gear I can rely on.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I felt like I was sleeping in a cloud of feathers. I didn’t want my camping trip to end. Compressed small. I also got a left sided zip which was also a huge game changer for me since I regularly sleep on that side. It was roomy to roll around in and in the middle of the night when the cold got cold the hood kept me toasty.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the fanciest bag I've ever had the pleasure of owning. Superb features like the chest pocket thingy. Zipper sturdy enough and seems to not snag as easily as with previous bags. The only issue I foresee is the sound it makes. It's pretty noisy with any movement. Aside from that minor issue, this is a great buy.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This bag is 100% true to the description! Light, packable, and perfect backcountry bag. I used this bag with a floor-less tent during an Idaho 13 day backcountry trip and it preformed flawless. The weather fluctuated between the 30s and low teens at night and I this bag kept me warm and dry each night. While the temps were warmer (30s) it was easy to vent the bag to allow airflow and prevent overheating and when at its coldest (10-11degrees) I never had the bag zipped all the way up (very warm bag). During the trip we received 18" of snow I was having trouble regulating the condensation inside my tent. I was initially concerned about using the down bag due to all gear and clothing being constantly wet, but was astonished when the bag would be dry every evening. I slept in a light merino top and bottom and would even sleep with damp socks, insoles and a shirt stuffed inside the bag (to dry out) and each day I would have dry clothes and a dry lofty bag. This bag is the real deal and will be my primary bag for all my late backcountry trips.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used to winter camp in -5F night time temps at Valley Way tentside up near Mt Madison in the Whites. Great bag, comfortable, stayed warm, stayed dry. Love the hood, zipper snags a big but NBD. i'M 5'11", 175 and it fit great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Such a sweet bag. My past used and abused bag is the REI magma 10. The fill is better on this guy so it gets even smaller and is warmer.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] this bag packs down extremely small but when its not packed it is humongous and warm.. so beautifully designed
