(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) First use was awesome! Sleeping bag fit the way it was described. Im 6' tall , 170 lbs. It was just roomy enough for me to move around a little bit but not excessively. The interior neck collar is in the perfect place to help keep that heat in when required. Having the option for a left and right zipper is a great thing based on whether one is left or right handed. It is very easy to pack into its stuff sack and as a sleeping bag that will keep you warm to -15 I would highly recommend it. With temps to just plus 2 on my recent trip overnight, I was in the bag with just underwear and woke up extremely comfortable. Not sweating and clammy feeling like some bags leave you feeling.
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I have an older version of this bag, approx 5 years old and its excellent. Its been my only sleeping bag for some time ( I sold my others) and I have used it in every situation, from friends lounge room floors, back of the truck, tents, open air camping, backcountry cabins etc. In dry weather and extremely wet and stormy weather. Ive used it in +30 celsius (slept on top of it) to -30 celsius. With a proper sleeping pad and layering to suit the temp I've never had an issue with this bag, except the -30 night. That was a long cold night! Its not as light as some bags, or as warm or compressible but the price of the bag and the quality of the workmanship and synthetic insulation make this my go to sleeping bag.
First off, the 4 star rating is based only on the size. (I found it constraining even though I got the large size, but unless you are 6'3, 240 lbs this likely won't be an issue, and you can go ahead and add one more star because the bag is warm, lightweight, and comfortable. Price: Not supposed to mention specific prices paid, but I'll say that they gave me a great deal. So much so that I wasn't expecting to get such a great bag, and was pleasantly surprised when I tested it out in some Cold Alberta weather. This is definitely a high quality bag, so don't let the great price fool you. Functionality: This bag is rated -15 C so I figured I'd be "chilly" at that temp. I tested it out last night in -17 C (-23 with wind chill) and wore only my synthetic thermal underwear, winter T-Max Socks, and a toque as I sleep with my head outside of my bag since it feels claustrophobic enough already for me. I didn't use a tent, but did use a Bivy Sack (not shelter) also with my head outside of it. I used a sleeping pad with an R rating of 3.6 (nothing special, but you should always use one so that you aren't throwing away good heat trying to heat up the frozen ground which will always be a losing endeavor! Not only was I NOT chilly, I was actually warm, and any heat loss from keeping my face/head outside in the wind/cold wasn't even an issue because my entire body was so warm. Most companies seem to be rather generous with their temp rating so I wasn't expecting my evening to be so pleasant considering the temperatures and wind. Note: My purchase was based on both price and Temp rating evenly. I'm on a budget, but need the coldest rating I can get as I camp through all 4 seasons fairly evenly. (I know, I'm strange) :) Durability: My bag is new, so I can't speak to durability. Quality seems fairly typical compared to most brands I've seen. I'm hoping warmth/loft stay consistent for at least 5 years. Fit: Size aside, this bag closes up as tight as you are comfortable with. You can open it up so that it is comfortable even in spring, summer, fall temps, or you can close it up so that only your mouth/face is exposed for breathing with your head snug in the hood (my inflatable pillow fits nicely in there as well) I'm not sure if I'm allowed to leave two reviews, but if I am, I'll post another tomorrow as the temperatures are dropping down to -35 C (thank you Polar Vortex) and while I realize this exceeds the "limits" for this particular bag, I'd still like to see how it would work in an emergency situation where simply staying alive rather than comfort is the goal. I'll time how long I'm able to stay outside, and let you know the particulars such as clothing worn (obviously if staying alive is the goal, I'd sleep in more than just my long underwear! I also have a cheap (Canadian Tire brand) sleeping bag liner that I can put inside. Hope this helps you! Cheers!
This is the most comfortable mummy bag I have ever owned. I have only used it a few times so I haven’t given it the test of time...... but it is Mountain Hardwear so I doubt that’s anything to worry about. Awesome sleeping bag that is true to size and temperature! I also love how is comes with a nice compact stuff sac as well as a nice sized mesh bag for proper storage when not in use. I would highly recommend this sleeping bag.... Awesome price compared to other brands of similar specs!!!
Out of box thing is ultra plush. Tested it inside and its a perfect fit. I'm 6' so I thought the regular wouldve been to small but she fits like a glove. Haven't slept in really cold conditions but I used it on a couple mid 30 degree nights and slept awesome. Have no doubt I'd be able to get into the teens with this bag. Packs down really well for the rating and being synthetic. It does get pretty tight at the knees and calves but opens up more at the feet. Can't complain thing is bomb.
I recently used the Lamina Z Torch on a 19 degree night. Naturally, it was several degrees warmer in the tent. At first entry, the bag seemed as if it would be very warm. Then, after several minutes of adjusting to the bag, the cold spots started to develop. There are not many, but it definitely has a few around the lower back and where your hands tend to lay. The foot box was adequately warm as was the chest area. The only weakness seems to be around the mid-region. The zipper could be improved. It tends to snag up the material. Not just once but, every time you adjust it. The hood does do a good job of keeping your head warm. While sleeping with another, I noticed that their bag remained completely dry on the outside, while my bag felt completely damp on the outside (not on the inside, though). It was very foggy outside and this bag seemed to attract ALL of the moisture from the air. Overall a good bag but, definitely not accurately described. If I wanted a 20 degree bag, I would have paid less.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Seems like great quality and I am pleased with the prompt delivery. Have not used the sleeping bag in extremely cold weather yet, but it seems like a well-made product.
Low weight and good pack size. I like the extra insulation flap around the chest and by the feet for extra heat retention.
The only complain i have , its hard to put the sleeping bag in the compression bag
