One of the best things I've put on my bike

I've had these for about 6 months and run them with different tire combinations and they are invaluable. The inserts give the tire a more modulated, less bouncy feel while allowing you to run a wider range of pressures. Most noticeably, they improve the tire's cornering performance by supporting the tire and preventing sidewall squirm under heavy leaning. To address the most common complaint: Yes, tire installation is a bit more difficult. What I found is that after the first install or two, the insert stretches some and it becomes easier to get the tire on. It is vital that you follow the video instructions provided by CushCore or you'll have a bad time. What I found to be the biggest challenge was removal of tires. The issue is that you lose leverage on the bead of the tire, which makes breaking the bead very difficult. Once the bead is broken, though, you can follow CushCore's instructions on removal fairly easily. What I found to help this process is to use a tire lever and rubber mallet to gently tap around the edge of the tire bead until it unseats. Some tires are easier than others, WTB and Maxxis have so far been the easiest to remove. I'll also add that it can compound issues with your rim tape. If you have holes in your rim tape, then the insert will cover them and prevent sealant distribution. It's really important that your rim tape is in good shape before installation. One added perk of this system is the valves: they are clog free. I've had a lot of issues with clogged valve stems and cores, but those all went away even using just the valve cores without CushCore. I've run these through bike parks and trail riding for a while now and I have removed them to see the difference, it is noticeable. The wide range of tire adjustments is really nice too. We got caught out in a downpour on a narrow, technical trail and I was able to drop 3-4 PSI out of my tires and roll through some wet root sections faster than I had when it was dry and conditions were good. The deadened feel of the tire also helps reduce fatigue and hand pain. The only other comment I'll make is to not be tempted to run this system rear only. I've tried that and you really lose the benefit of the system not having it in the front, where most of your cornering pressure and critical traction are. As CushCore says, it's a system and works best when used front and rear. You will lose many of the benefits by not running it up front. They have their hassles, but the tradeoff is a better feeling bike and is worth the hassle.

Fantasitc!

I ride a hard tail with plus size tires, I installed cush core and it makes it seem like I am riding a different bike. The cush core definitely helps soak up bumps and has with out a doubt saved me from numerous pinch flats. One impact slightly dented the rim (yikes!) but I did not get a pinch flat! A lot of people claim there is a huge weight disadvantage, they obviously add weight, but it was not noticeable to me at all on the uphills (I am not racing). The bottom line is these allow my to have more fun on the down hill sections of a trail, thus they are definitely worth it. Cush Core finally has their product for gravel bikes (not for sale at REI yet) and I am definitely going to get it and install it on my gravel bike!!!

Not as tricky as rumored

Pretty straight forward install after watching their video, not much tougher than mounting road tubeless tires, really. Makes the hardtail feel like the fork is a little more effective and the back end almost feels like it has a little travel now. Sure makes rock impacts less harsh and the tires do seem to bite into corners a little better. Will be hard to go back to just tubeless.

The best

I love Cushcore. I am buying a second set for my new DH bike (First set for my enduro rig). I have been running them in my enduro bike (front and rear and tested only rear) and they transform the way your bike handles the trail. There is so much stability in corners and the dampening effect through rock gardens is unreal. The effect is immediately noticeable. The first time installing these is tough, but over the months (I swap tires a lot) I have learned tricks to make it easier. I run a Maxxis Assegai/DHRII MaxxGrip DH casing combo. I have been riding most weekends at Angel Fire bike park (notoriously rocky) and cushcore combined with a DH casing tire is bombproof. I run 22-23PSI front/25+ PSI in the rear and still manage to ping my rims pretty consistently, but I have yet to get any flats. After a season of abuse the rear insert is really starting to fall apart. It has stretched out considerably and all the rock strikes have either indented the foam or actually cut the foam material in a few instances. Overall, I absolutely love Cush Core! I won't run either of my bikes without them anymore.

Plushy with the right pressure

Keeps the tires from burping and popping off the rim under low pressure. I am able to run low tire pressure of 18-20 front and 20-30 rear over large roots, stumps, and it’s not a hard hit to the rim. These are going to add weight to your bike, but in reality you pick up the added benefit of tire squish plus the suspension of the bike to feel more plushyness over the rough footy sections on trails. It does take some tire pressure running to get it right, took me 2 rides. But ones you get it right, I feel like it improves the ride.

Makes a difference

I am running 27.5x3.0 size tires and these really help deaden up the tire and I no longer feel the tire compress on bumps and rocks. Install was really easy. You just have to make sure you push the tire bead into the center of the rim under the Cush Core.

Flat tire backup!

I was riding Mt. Wilson and had a crash. I broke a spoke on my back tire and was not able to use Co2 to inflate the tire again since I had nothing to cover the hole where my spoke was. Normally I would just put a tube in, however taking the tire off can be difficult with the CushCore inserts installed. Somehow I was able to finish the ride (walking through most of the gnarly rocky sections). It saved me from a very long, cold walk down to the bottom. It helps that I ride eThirteen LG1 carbon wheels as they are very durable.

Lives up to the hype...

Me: 58 year old weekend warrior. There is a lot of positive hype on the Internet about Cushcore, and for me, the product lives up to all of it. I ride a plus size hardtail, 27.5 X 2.8 front and rear. I weigh 190-195 with my gear, and I’m running 10 psi in front and 12 psi in back. This makes for a really plush ride, especially over my heavily rooted home trails here in Northern Virginia. I also like the way Cushcore improves handling at high speed over loose stuff. I think that’s down to the combination of the wider contact patch at lower pressure and a rebound damping effect in the tires that the inserts seem to provide. And because the insert pushes the bead into the rim, the is no tire squirm when cornering. The extra rotational mass probably reduces acceleration on the flats, but if you’re riding a plus size hardtail you’re probably not worried about that. I’ve climbed a lot with it now, and I don’t notice the extra 1.5 lbs that the plus version adds. I can’t speak personally to what Cushcore is like with skinnier tires, but I wholeheartedly recommend it for plus.

Missing parts

Ordered these, have tried a few bikes with them and love them. But my order from rei was missing valve core stems. The original tubless ones on my wheels seat against the foam and dont release pressure once the bead is seated. So i got to spend and extra 20 bucks at my local bike shop to get valve cores that work.
