Consider Buying a Yeti Instead
Price: This is a $58 water bottle with the Union Top and the interior wall being made out of a coat of glass. There is also a $56 version of this water bottle with the wide mouth top, or Element Top. Aesthetics: The shape and colors; maroon, dark blue, and dark green look great. I prefer the Union Top which makes it easier to drink over the wide mouth Element Top version. The minimalist Purist logo is a nice touch and overall the water bottle just looks great. Glass Interior: I’ve used the Purist 32 OZ water bottle almost daily for the last 6-months for coffee and I can attest that the glass interior won’t make a difference and your water bottle will end up smelling of coffee. Also, water will stick to to the inside glass walls; this feature is only available when you initially use the water bottle and over time after multiple use and washes whatever lining is over the interior glass wears off and water will stick to the inside glass walls. The claim that water will not stick to the glass interior is a half truth by Purist. Lids/Tops: The lids/tops which are available do not have a glass lining and will definitely end up smelling of coffee. Usually this is not a problem as I fill my Purist water bottle with coffee and pour it out to a mug but there is a big problem when I fill it with water and the top reeks of coffee. I’ve tried soaking both the bottle and tops but it won’t help; I do not have this problem with any of my Yeti brand water bottles. It took 2-years of almost daily use for my Yeti brand water bottle to start smelling of coffee and a stainless steel cleaning powder got rid of it. After 6-months of almost daily use the top and interior of my Purist brand water bottle reek of coffee which makes it unpleasant to drink water from and I cannot get rid of the coffee smell. Separately, if you have the Union Top which is easier to drink from, that top will whistle loudly at times as you drink and air enters the inside of the bottle. I don’t necessarily mind it since drinking slower will stop it but I can see where it can be annoying for some. Also. when I hand wash the Union Top I do not like having to dig around the inside of the top with my pinky finger in order to clean the top completely. Handle: The handle on the Union Top which is easier to drink from is not well designed. If you lift up the handle and put your finger(s) through the loop, you can hurt your finger(s) because the half loop is small especially when the water bottle is full and heavy. You won’t have this problem with the Element Top which is the wide mouth version and has a flat surface. However, the loop handle is easy to attach to a carabiner. Durability: My Purist water bottle has been dropped multiple times from a 2nd floor and the glass interior has not been damaged. It’s also been dropped from the roof of my car onto concrete and the water bottle has only sustained some minor scratches which I don’t mind. I have not had any denting issues like others have claimed. Hot/Cold: I purchased the Purist water bottle after I lost my Yeti brand water bottle which was engraved with my name. Even with the engraving, the Yeti 36 OZ water bottle cost less than this Purist brand. Instead of waiting 2-weeks for new engraved Yeti water bottle I purchased the maroon color Purist brand instead because it is a great looking product. Having said that, the Purist brand water bottle is the best performing water bottle that I have ever owned. Your drink will stay hot or cold for hours. However, the stainless steel loop that the top screws into is not insulated and can get very hot or cold depending on how much you fill the water bottle. Cleaning: I do not like having to use my pinky finger to clean the crevices when I hand wash the Union Top. I much prefer the Yeti Chug Cap on the 36 OZ Yeti water bottle which is easier to drink from and easier to clean. Pros: Aesthetically, Purist makes a great looking product. The colors are nice and the bottle just feels really good in your hands. I have not experienced any leaking as others have claimed. The water bottle has been dropped multiple times and has only sustained minor scratches. The glass interior is definitely tough, which was my fear that it might crack or break but even after having dropped the water bottle from a 2nd floor and also onto concrete the glass interior has held up. Typical daily use for me is filling the water bottle with hot coffee then dropping it into my Yeti Camino 35 tote onto clothes or work stuff almost daily and I’ve never experienced any leaking nor any structural issues. The Purist brand water bottle is the best performing water bottle that I’ve ever used to keep drinks hot or cold for hours. Cons: Not worth the price. After initial use the lining on the interior glass washes off and water will stick to the interior glass wall. The glass won’t keep the interior from smelling of coffee and your plastic top will definitely smell of coffee especially with heavy use. The loop handle on the Union Top is too small and your finger(s) can get caught. The Union Top can whistle loudly at times when drinking, and the stainless steel rim at the top of the water bottle is not insulated and will get hot or cold depending on how much you fill it. Overall: Although the Purist brand water bottle looks great, I would go with a Yeti chug cap water bottle instead especially if you can get it engraved directly from Yeti. I’m glad I tried Purist as a brand but I wouldn’t buy their water bottles again. The loop handle is too small for my fingers and I’ve gotten them stuck to the point I’ve almost hurt myself when I’ve been in a hurry and carried the Purist bottle while completely full. I much prefer the Yeti Chug Cap which is robust and feels good even though the Yeti chug cap won’t fit well in a carabiner and doesn’t perform as well with hot drinks as a Purist water bottle.
leaks
i saw other reviews that this bottle leaks really bad but gave Purist the benefit of the doubt. unfortunately it does leak horribly and almost every day this bottle soaks my entire bag if it is in any position but upright. also this bottle claims in a promotional video that water doesn’t “stick to the glass coating”... but it absolutely does in real life. the only good thing about this bottle is the sleek look of it.
Too Expensive For What You Get
This item isn’t cheap and I was disappointed when after one day of using it, the paint chipped and the bottle dented. It hung out on the floor of my car for an afternoon and rolled around a bit on the drive but that shouldn’t have been enough to damage the outside of the bottle like it did. I also bought the union top. It’s pretty hard to open and it’s a rubbery top that collects tons of dust and hair or lint etc. When i put ice in the bottle, it lasts for an hour maybe and then it’s melted. Water stays cool but not cold. It’s a sexy looking bottle but poor quality and way to expensive for what you get.
It does technically work better than a Hydro Flask
I purchased this product specifically because the inside is glass lined with the impression it would be easier to keep clean. I use coffee in this on a regular basis and a big problem with coffee is the staining of the containers. Having used multiple stainless brands I don't think this really works any better in that regard. I can say testing it against Hydro Flasks (generally considered 'industry standard') this does keep hot liquid a few (3-4) degrees hotter (16 hours and 24 hours) as well as keeping things a couple degrees colder(about 2 degrees over the same timeframes). I have no problems with the handles functionality although it does get beat up when using it with a carabiner or similar device. The overall structure is as sturdy as any other mainstream stainless water bottle. In general I wouldn't recommend this to people as it is decently more expensive and the advantages are very minor. It also does not have the options many of the other brands on the market have. I will continue to use it until it fails as it does the job as well as any other bottles of its type for my purposes. Since my purchase Purist has come out with two additional lids (no Scope Top and Union Top). I probably would have purchased it with the Union Top instead but again for my use it doesn't make a big difference.
Love the glass lining but LEAKS
Have been searching for glass lined thermos and had high hopes. Beware, this thermos (32 oz Founder model with element top) really does leak terribly! Also wish the 32 oz was designed to be slightly slimmer and taller to fit in carrying sack. Am debating whether to return it.
Does what it says
I have a sensitive palate and this bottle works as advertised. Extremely minimal taste imparted to water. This was the selling factor for me as many stainless steel bottles leaves a tiny metallic taste. Insulation capabilities seem to no be the greatest but still perfectly acceptable. I believe the cap/neck area is to blame. I dont expect it to last over a day which is fine since I am constantly refilling it with it being 32 oz anyways. If it was 42 oz I would expect and hope for better performance.
Awesome but not durable
1st of all, I love this bottle by of this bottle but the slightest dump and it dents. I have never had a water bottle get as dented as this bottle and it is crazy expensive. It does keep your stuff cold and the paint does not chip so bad when it gets bumped but the amount of dense I've gotten in this $53 bottle is insane and I had it at work.
1 Year In
Great bottle. Has never leaked once and about to buy one for my girlfriend. Have dropped many times and has dinged on the outside (which is to be expected) but still functions perfectly. Only slight issue is the lid handle has gotten a little squeaky recently, but for the amount I use it I can’t complain.
great bottle
this is a well designed and well built bottle, the cap is a little tight, and had to open, hopefully it will become less so in time
Purist Founder Vacuum
Great product. As advertised, water tastes great without getting metallic taste of other products I have tried.
