Incredibly comfortable and stays centered.
The problem for me with most harnesses like BD Momentum or Petzl Adjama is that you need to be on the small end of the size range in order for the back strap holding the leg loops to stay centered with the belay loop (for one buckle harnesses) and seems to give only a few inches in range per size. If you’re between sizes, that’s where shopping for a harness gets frustrating. I’m definitely not of the lower size end, so with harnesses that adjust from one side, the hooks and strap were always off-center. For someone that’s gets bothered by that sort of thing, the Jay III harness was a godsend (the waistband is "floating" so the waist strap can be pulled through the waistband and center-adjusted). It has a wider waist range per sizes. The leg loops were more anatomically angled than the Petzl Corax (and the material is softer too. I find the one-buckle on Jay easier to deal with than the two buckle on Corax) By far, this is the best harness I could end up with.
A fantastic design, now for a better price.
I've been climbing in BD's Momentum and Alpine BOD harnesses for years and one major issue I have is the size adjustability. The gear loops are always off center and if I'm wearing pants/shorts with pockets, it's often a struggle to get the harness over them. This harness that a bought on a whim is apparently the answer. With Edelrid's Jay III, the gear loops can always be centered because the padding and loops "float" on the load-bearing parts. It is also massively adjustable including on the leg loops, meaning it clears clothing and other gear with ease. Wide padding also makes it noticeably more comfortable when jugging or hanging in a belay. My one and only qualm is that there's not really a great haul loop. There IS a small loop that you could put a small 'biner or chord through to attach a line with but I do miss the substantial loop that is common on BD and other harnesses.
Great Harness (I bought three of them)
I purchased two of the Edelrid Jay III harnesses for my 13 and 14 year old kids while I continued to climb in a harness I use for mountaineering. They liked the harness so much, and it was so easy to use, I ended up getting a third one for myself. I'm very happy with it.
Bargain at sale price, miss the haul loop
I still wear my old BD harness, but figured it was time for a new one. The BD is heavier but has a solid piece of nylon belt and gear loops, plus a rated haul loop. This one is quite light an fits and performs well, but I'm fumbling for the gear loops, may just take some time to get used to it, but they're floppier than the stiffer BD loops. And durability TBD since they have fabric sewn to the waist that will eventually wear through. Nice feature that you can move the waistband + loops independently of the webbing belt.
Sewn incorrectly
I ordered the Elderid harness online. The belay loop at the front is sewn on incorrectly, causing it to be twisted and not functional. Very disappointed Elderid sent out a product with such a noticeable error. If you buy this product, I recommend doing so in store to make sure there are not errors like with the one I purchased.
Comfy harness
I use this as my sport harness it's comfortable all around I definitely would not use this as my trad harness it just does not carry the weight as well.
First Harness
I bought this harness and a matching one for my bf as our first harnesses. It's worked great so far; fits snugly and has performed perfectly.
Nice beginner harness
This had some good online reviews and has performed as billed. Fits well, easy to adjust, and comfortable. Good price too.
Cheapening an ok product
This would be fine but the leg straps have this unsightly elastic that will just fail. It serves no purpose than to be an eyesore. I liked the colours and features of olderJay IIs but this is aweful
Solid harness, gets the job done for beginner
Got this because it's on sale and it's cheap. Used it for a few indoor top rope climbs as a beginner. It gets the job done and I don't find any issues with it.
