saw this big Agnes tent for a ridiculously low price and had to jump on it even though there’s not a lot of info out there about the windy point 1. I’m uploading some pictures with this review to hopefully provide people with an idea of what this tent is like. I’ve only pitched it in my room but it had a super quick set up and tear down with a surprising amount of room on the inside. I’m a 5’5” woman and I had space for my 50L backpack and then some. As other reviewers have mentioned, it looks like the fly doesn’t come down very far so that would be worrisome in a real downpour— but I don’t expect it to be a huge problem. Overall very happy with this purchase and can’t wait to use it out in the field.
I have put this tent through heavy use by now, including heavy rains, high winds, and snow. The tent has held up tremendously. Extremely easy to set up even in the dark, nice and roomy on the inside. The inside pockets are very well placed and thought out. The vestibule is the perfect size for a one man tent, and fits my 80L backpack perfectly. The rain fly sits high off of the mesh, and has a nice vent. The guy lines are reflective, and the mini vestibule on the back side of the tent is perfect for storing my trekking poles under. No issues with condensation. Plenty of loops to hang things on the inside. Tent does not leak at all.
I'm 5'11", wear an 11.5 US (EU 46) shoe. I'm using this as a tent for bikepacking and some kayak trips. The weight cut a full pound off my old tent. Shoulder room is awesome. However, I'm about at the height limit for this tent. I use the Big Agnes Insulated Q-Core Deluxe 25x78 sleeping pad (4.25" of outer loft). My feet are just barely touching the mesh at the bottom of the tent, this is the only reason I didn't give the tent a 5. This might a non-issue if you're using a smaller/lower pad. Storage within the tent is awesome. Had plenty of room to keep everything off the floor of the tent (cell phone, battery charger, pepper spray, toiletry items and snacks). There's also a lot of hanging loops along the center line of the tent, which allow hanging options for various things (maybe a small fan here in Florida). In true Big Agnes fashion, everything sets up with ease.
This is exactly the tent I was looking for. Freestanding, side entry, large 1 man 3lb. I actually own a big Agnes flycreek Ul1 and I hate it, because it's not free standing. You must stake it out, to stand correctly. This weighs a pound more but it's only 3 lb and I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet but it looks like a pretty nice the only thing there is a gap on the foot end of the tent between the fly and the body I think it will be okay but it's not perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. Wish it didn't have plastic pole hubs but if they break I can Fabricate one up.
I sprung for this tent based on compromise between price and weight and brand reputation. I was looking for another 1P that had a little extra room and below $200. I did a quick setup indoors and first impressions are very good. The good: Quick easy set up, follows the same procedure as most tents. Better then average space between screen and rainfly so condensation is not going to be a problem unless the location is soaked. 11 inside hanging loops and three pockets (two of which are double pockets) make this very livable. Great airflow, plus a little extra high bathtub floor walls. Noticable extra space - I’d say 1.3 persons and I could stay in it all day if I had to, but would not be a palace. The rainfly is decent weight with ripstop threads. I am a smaller guy 5’6 these days, and I’d say if you are a larger person or over 6’, you might go for a 2P. Short, lightweight tieouts for airflow in the appropriate places. Nice light color, and not neon by any means. No bad smell. Concerns: the rainfly covers well, but does not go to ground, and quite a bit of space there. In a long downpour, I expect some splash to the tent. It does seem unlikely to get inside though due to 6-7” high floor walls, and extra wall in the back. This same issue provides good airflow in summer, but might get pretty drafty if there is a lot of wind. The vestibule (like all 1P tents) is not huge, and you might barely fit a 50L upright, but I think I’d bring a trashbag to cover the pack and lay it down on the pack’s side with room to spare to get in and out with even a 60L. Expect low rain splash inside the vestibule due to slightly high rainfly. I think I’d bring my shoes inside the tent in a plastic bag if I expected heavy rain. Overall, no buyer’s regrets based on first impressions in the basement.
I haven't had this tent out camping yet, but did set it up and verified everything was ok. This tent is quite roomy. I am 6'1" and I have plenty of room inside. I can sit up without hitting my head. The build quality seems solid. It has a nice bathtub floor and a nice sized door. I am very happy with this tent and for the price you just can't beat it. This will definitely take care of my needs, and once it's worn out I can afford to upgrade to a copper spur!
I bought this tent new for occasional solo backpacks. After the purchase in 2019, I did a one-nighter to test it. Next, I used the tent in 2022 for a three-night rim-to-rim backpack in the Grand Canyon. And then, in 2023, after only four nights of use, the tent's zipper failed on the first night of another Grand Canyon backpack. The tent itself is confrontable, hence the two stars, but how could REI sell tents with zippers that fail so quickly?! For years, REI has been my de facto only choice for gear, but now, with they unaccommodating return policy, I will be shopping elsewhere, too.
Since their isn’t much info On this tent I figured I would offer some initial thoughts. Overall the tent is A nice Package for the price, Rain Fly is very Nice (what you’d expect for BA) Tent body is what you’d expect for the money and same could be said about the tent poles. What you’ll like is the very live-able space, with the side entry and Vestibule. I have the Fly Creek UL1 and I sigh every time I crawl out the front door. With this tent I think you’ll find a nice roomy package that with a few tweaks you’ll be choosing this tent quite often.
Bought this tent and took it out on a night when there were 50 mph winds. I didn't tie it down and surprise, surprise I bend the poles. BA was super cool about getting me new poles. Since then I have taken it out several nights. It is big and roomy despite the fact I am a large American. Easy set up. I have two strikes against it. It is really bulky (not sure how it compares to other tents of the same size). Second, there is a a bar/wire something that holds open the little vent window in the tarp. It is always in the way when you try to roll it up.
It is not the lightest, but offers a great compromise between weight and value. It is sturdy and well thought out. I've used it on multiple excursions and found that set up is easy, space is adequate and that ventilation is good. Set up is easy and if you get the footprint, it gives you flexibility in gear planning.
