Best Sun Hoody Available
The Black Diamond Alpenglow Hoody is an essential part of every backpacking, hiking, and camping trip I take. It's extremely lightweight and breathable which helps to keep me cool, even on hot summer days. With the hood up and the UPF 50+ fabric, I've never had a sun burn while wearing this hoody. After two years of use, my original two hoodies are still going strong and I will continue to recommend them to friends and family. Heck, I even proposed to my now wife wearing one of these while camping outside Yellowstone. If you're looking for a sun hoodie, this is the one to go for. For sizing, I'm 6'2" 180lbs and wear a size large which gives a slightly loose but well fit shirt. My only wish is that the hoody had thumb holes but the sleeves are long enough to cover some of the backs of my hands.

Awesome Sun hoody
Just bought one for my trip to Palm Springs to hike the Cactus to Clouds trail (hardest hike I’ve ever done btw highly recommend) I’ve never actually worn a sun hoody before this but all my friends said it’s the best way to go in the desert and wow we’re they right. It kept the sun off and evaporated my sweat insanely quickly as well as crazy soft and comfortable. The only downside is I got tons of mosquito bites through it but that’s more on me for assuming the desert didn’t have mosquitoes and not doing enough research to bring repellents. This will definitely become a staple in my hiking attire as I like how quickly it wicks the sweat and I sunburn pretty easily.

Excellent for an alpine clime.
Comfortable all day with sun hoody protection
IR treatment is plain to see...
With a FLIR. Each day is different so sometimes it's a bit hard to say, "am I cooler, am I warmer, is this shirt any different?". I was curious whether I could observe the effect of the treatment, so I pulled out my IR camera. I compared the old version of this hoody to the new version with the IR treatment. Both were fresh out of the closet & the same temperature. See for yourself- plain as day, it's the real deal. (If you're not familiar with thermal images, they measure IR as a proxy for temperature. So in the photo the new hoody looks "hot". But in this case it's actually the sun's IR reflecting off the garment like a mirror)
Alpenglow Pro Shines like the Alpenglow on your Summit Approach
I have purchased two of these for the past year of guiding, and have been thoroughly impressed. I developed a tear that worried me due to the stretchy nature of the fabric, and I did not think that it would hold a patch well. However, after a year of abuse, the small tear has not grown any larger! The only con that another expert has mentioned is that this fabric is quite hot and heavy when soaked in a humid/rainy environment.

Outdoor everything sun shirt!
I picked one of these up in the raging sea color about a year ago in size L and it quickly became my favorite sun shirt. I use it paddle boarding, climbing, hiking and backpacking, it's simply the best. Breathes well, is flowy and comfortable, the hood has good depth to snug over my head, hat or helmet. I swear a fair bit so after a long day it'll smell a bit, but that's normal. Compared to a few other name brand sun hoody's I've tried this is my favorite. So far despite some velcro attacks and rock scraping from climbing it's holding up very well! I'm 6'2" and 195lbs, athletic build (bigger shoulders 34" waist) the large fits snuggly so I went with the XL which is loose on me with a comfortable amount of room for movement with full sleeve coverage, the hem staying tucked in a harness, and the hood over a helmet without any significant tugging at the neck. XL hood also works well with a hat or by itself. Weird thing is the size L I got a year ago fits exactly like a new XL I just got in Tundra green...no clue why, but maybe they changed the sizing or I got a mislabeled L shirt. Either way, I'm happy with the XL as I found in current sizing.
Amazing sun hoodie
The fabrics are very smooth to the skin and breathable, tight fit which I really like. Protected me well from the sun and didn’t stink even after 5 days of hiking and sweating. I would have loved if they added thumb holes!
My favorite sun hoodie
I've used the Alpenglow Pro for a few seasons now, and I'm a big fan. It's perfect for climbing, with a nice stretchy hood that fits perfectly over a helmet. The material isn't superlight, but it's reasonably light, and the extra features really make this hoody shine. It's not as light and airy as something like the OR Echo, but that's a benefit as well - you can get a bit of insulation from this sun shirt, while it also dumps heat using mesh panels at the armpits. The front zip allows for some ventilation, making it a decent shirt for running if it isn't too hot out. The only downside to the Alpenglow Pro is that the material doesn't perform very well in humid environments. But here in Colorado, it's just about as perfect as a sun hoodie can get. That's why I also bought one for my girlfriend!

Feels great and stays smell free
I've worn this as a layer over a T-shirt and on its own. It will definitely make you hotter worn as a layer, but seemed to work well on its own. The loose fit allows the breeze to get in which helps keep you cool too. I love the silver treatment - I've worn this for multiple days with no stink while my other gear is smelly after a single sweaty day. I plan on washing this infrequently to keep the fabric in good condition and extend the life of the silver treatment. The way they attached the hood makes it so the front of your neck is protected from the sun as well (with the hood up). Happy with my purchase, definitely recommend!
Awesome Everyday Sun Hoody
I have used this hoody as my daily driver for the past year, taken it around the world to climb and ski in, and it still looks great! The material is lightweight, breathable, and very stretchy making it great for rock climbing. My main use case for the hoody is for sun protect, since I hate wearing sunscreen, and this product works great for that. The biggest drawback is that I wear it so often, I look the same in all my pictures!
