Sizing Notes
For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

Excellent ice climbing boots!
I've used these boots for 3 ice climbing seasons, and they've been great! My feet have stayed (relatively) warm in temps up to -10F, and stay dry even when climbing some REALLY wet climbs. For most of my street shoes I wear a women's 9, and for these boots I bought size 41 which fit almost perfectly. My feet are relatively long and skinny, and these boots leave just enough room to wiggle my toes while remaining snug. I generally wear mid-weight socks with these boots, but have also worn heavier socks and still felt comfortable. These boots are very durable and high-quality, and I expect them to last me for many ice climbing seasons to come!
Great boot!
I got these for ice climbing and cross-country skiing, and I really love them. They are very comfortable, my feet stayed pretty warm, and the lock laces work great for keeping less tension in the toes and tighter on the ankles. I wore them for a full day right out of the box and had no issues needing to break them in. The additional tongue insert is a great feature, too. I have narrow feet and without the extra tongue I really had to pull the laces in a lot which made for some lumpy spots, but with the added tongue, they fit perfect.
Too narrow for my wide feet
My review is more about how these boots fit me. I am 5'1" and have small but very wide feet. For reference, I wear size 6 wide size in Keen hiking boots. I found Nepal Cube boots way too narrow for me. I tried sizing up, adding tongue, varying socks/sock-liners - nothing made these boots comfortable for me. I ended up with blisters all over - not just on my soles and toes but also on my ankles. I finally ended up with Salewa Rapace GTX boots. Those are 3 season boots and definitely won;t be as warm but they'd serve me for 90% of my mountaineering needs. I'll rent 4 season boots for winter expeditions.. if & when I need.
great quality! I went up two sizes.
I wear between a 6.5 and size 7 shoe. In my La Sportiva hiking boots I went up one full size to a 39, but in these boots for ice climbing I went from a 38 all the way up to a 40. I have extremely narrow feet (which is why I love La Sportivas!) The size 40 fits snug and has a thumb width from my toe to end. True test- remove liner from shoe and put your foot on it. Make sure a finger or thumb width is between your toe and end of shoe. The shoe should be snug but room in tow box for slamming those feet into ice without damaging toes. These shoes are best purchased at REI so you can get the correct size. I would have been in trouble if I ordered a 38 used. I always rented size 38 but never tried this brand. So far these feel amazing and should work out well!
why did I wait so long?
I debated getting mountaineering boots for MONTHS. My feet kept getting freezing cold in my winter boots despite toe warmers. But it seemed like it might be overkill to get these boots for winter white mountains hikes. Well, maybe it is overkill, but it was also 100% worth it!! My feet are warm and comfortable with crampons above the treeline. Love these!!
Worn once on a technical ascent....so far.
Just wore these for the first time on summitting an obscure peak near Middlefork, WA. The terrain required approach shoes and four season boots. I changed into my boots near some slushy knee deep snow that we probably should have had snowshoes for but we weren't in this terrain for long. Regardless; my feet never got wet and were toasty warm the entire time even with light socks. We then transitioned to more technical climbing so I put on my crampons. This time my crampons were pretty aggressive fully automatic and they slipped on easily with no problems. I have extremely high arches and a bone spur on my right foot, shoes are typically not comfortable but aside from a few blisters (I expected breaking in new boots) these were very comfortable, light and just what I was hoping they would be. I recommend this boot 10/10. I'll be wearing these for the rest of my objectives this season.
Great boots but maybe not for me
I think these are great boots and I wanted to love them so badly, but unfortunately they didn't work for me. I have quite long narrow feet, and the size which fits me is on a wider side. I wore them 3 times: for a short hike to break them in, for an ice climbing session, and on a mountaineering trip. The hike was fine except a couple of blisters, ice climbing - okayish, but mountaineering was a torture. I tied the laces as tight as possible, to the point it almost hurt, but my feet kept sliding and toes hit the front of the toe box. Since the boots are sturdy after the 4 hours descent I almost cried. Not sure if there are narrower boots on the market, so I guess it's just my problem. On the objective side, these are high-quality non-bulky and quite lightweight boots, 100% waterproof, and also I wore two pair of different crampons and snowshoes, and they didn't fail. I hope they work for you.
Order at least a half size up.
I’m a 6.5 shoe with narrow feet, I normally buy 7’s. I bought the 7 (38) and my toes hit the toe box so I ordered a half size up. (38.5) with the La Sportiva hiking shoes I had I ended up going up a full size. We will see how I do with the half size I feel like it should be fine since with ice climbing you may want them more snug than a hiking shoe. The quality was amazing and great for narrow feet! In other ice climbing shoes size 7’s we’re always too wide and too large. These shoes run extremely small.
Incredible Boots
Great support, extremely light, comfortable, always dry, and superb durability. As close to the perfect boot as you are going to get. Worth the money.
Great mountaineering boot very narrow
Great boots for serious ice climbing or mountaineering. They run pretty narrow like all sportivas do. I had the REI in seattle pound out the sides to make them a lil wider and they felt 100x better. Ultimately returned as they just werent meant for the terrain I needed them for and killed my feet when I wasn't on snow. If you’re doing any mixed terrain with long days not on snow I wouldn't reccomend, theyre just way too stiff
