The pack is solid! It stays put even when loaded down with a bladder and stuffed with gear. It's so comfortable that I have the freedom to run without thinking about it.
I just received this today and took it out on a maiden voyage. I am impressed! I used to run with a Camelbak but due to a nagging neck/ shoulder injury I needed something that would not bounce on the top of my shoulder. This fits the bill perfectly! I filled both flasks, loaded some extra gear and took off. Nothing sloshed, rattled, bounced or fell out. Everything stayed put and was very comfortable to wear. I got the xs/s. I was concerned about how it would ride as I am 5-6,150 lbs (a fire plug with a “book shelf”). Amazingly everything sat right and did not move or shift. Can’t wait for the wilderness to thaw to really put it to the test!
I bought this vest for my first 50k. It fits great and doesn't bounce much. My biggest complaint is that the bottles can be a little difficult to get in the vest after refilling at the aid stations, but I think they are more comfortable than the hard bottomed speed flasks. I tried all of the vests methods for carrying poles but I ended up getting the salomon quiver to carry my poles, and it worked great. The quiver was difficult to get through the loops on the shoulder, but it did fit after some struggling. I over-packed for my race, but the vest fit all of it well. A jacket and some light cold weather gear would have fit if needed.
I bought this about 1 month ago and have been very happy with. I was a little concerned it would be too hot to wear in warmer temps, but that's not the case. I also like how well it fits. I'm 5-6 female and the vest stays put with NO bouncing around! My other hydration pack with shoulder straps would bounce and by the end of a run my neck and shoulders would feel like I've been beat up. I purchased the XS. The only thing negative would be the the flasks are hard to get in the pockets. I'm looking at upgrading to the newer flasks that are available. Awesome product!!! (Don't know about the durability as it is to soon to tell...)
I’d been looking for an Ultra vest, and reasesrching the many different company’s/models out there. To be honest, I love everything Salomon! I’ve owned more of their shoes than I should admit. Along with shirts/shorts etc. I wasn’t looking forward to wearing a vest to run. But I knew I needed to haul water/nutrition etc. on long runs. The Adv Skin 5 Set is perfect for me! From the moment I got it, it felt like a “second skin.” Perfect fit. Comfort. A few runs to dial in where I wanted to put things, and now it’s an old friend. It’s had adequate room for me so far. Water, gels, a Houdini rain jacket. An absolutely outstanding vest from a company that just makes thing right!
I love this hydration vest. I bought one last summer and have used it in 5 Spartan Races (Sprints, Supers, & Beast). It doesn't bounce around like a Camelback and there are zipper pockets that I can store energy bars/packs in. It's very comfortable to run in, and it's easy to maneuver through the obstacles. I wash it regularly b/c I also train with it, and have zero issues with durability. I would recommend running in it before using in your first race just to get a good feel of how it sits. You probably want to use body glide especially around the bottom of the vest to prevent rubbing too bad.
The good: fit. I'm 5'4" and 115 pounds. Bought the xxs/xs and the fit is amazing. The bad: hydration. The flasks are essentially impossible for me to get in without taking the vest off or filling them ~ 1/2 full which isn't ideal when the next aid station is 20km away. I have tried using a bladder but the bag just doesn't seem to be compatible with bladders in the back. With nowhere for the water tube to go it ends up rubbing on my neck which becomes intolerable after about 5km! Due to the lack of hydration (cant seem to use a bladder and the flasks need to be 1/2 full) this vest does not seem to be of good use for ultras. It's great for short runs- but at the price point I would have expected a lot more.
ADV Skin 5 Set it’s my favorite hydration pack so far. I own Ultimate Direction Ultra, Nathan Vapor Krar 1 & 2 and 2 other Salomon Agile, but this one it’s the best fit
This is my third Salomon bag. I typically use them for self supported days in the range of 50K - 80K so I have to pack a fair bit of gear and water. The new design puts more weight and gear in the front. This will take some time to get used to but it makes everything much more accessible. The fit is wonderful and the rubbing points seem to have been reduced from the previous version. I did get a bit of chafe on my pec where the water bottle bounced with the bag. The stretchy coords that run everywhere on the bag did hang out and catch things (me, bushes) infrequently.
The perfect pack for your 10-13 Mile Trail runs. And when I don’t even need water, I still use it to carry my keys, phone and a layer.
