Perfect Bike for my 4yr Old Son
My son LOVES to ride. I didn't want front suspension, but I did want disc brakes and fat tires. Others bikes like this I found cost a lot more or from another country. My son got on this bike, LOVED it and I felt like it fit him really well. He was shifting and braking in the parking lot like he has been riding it for years. As an avid mtn biker, these are the things I don't like so far. 1. No Quick release's on the wheels - I am going to buy some 2. No Quick release on the seat post - I am going to buy one 3. The screws on the brake lever adjustments broke - I inserted my own screw to push the levers back - (Might have been my fault - there was a lot of lock tight on the screw) 4. There is a squeak developing somewhere over the last couple weeks, looks like I am going to have to do some brake adjustments. Please keep in mind this is a 2 week review, not a long term review. We will see how it holds up over the summer, but so far, so good. Happy to help with any questions or specification. Go ride!
Good bike, modified to be even better
My 8 year old really enjoys this bike. He moved up from a 16" Specialized Hotrock, so the size and gears were all new to him. He had a little trouble with the grip shift initially, but was able to get the hang of it. However, it still was not easy, so I swapped out the grip shift for a Shimano Tourney trigger shifter, which is much easier for kids. The grips that come with the bike are garbage. They are loose, and twist and fall off during rides. I swapped them out for Spank Grom lock-on grips, which are solid. On the street, the rigid fork is fine, but on the trails, my son was bouncing around and losing control without any dampening. I ended up swapping out the rigid fork for a 68mm travel SR Suntour suspension fork, which makes the ride much nicer, slacks out the geometry, and isn’t much heavier. I noticed that the front brake rotor wasn’t completely true, so I swapped that out for an Avid rotor. Lastly, the handlebars were pretty flat and not ergonomic for my son, so I swapped that out for a riser bar I had in my parts bin. The bike is so much better now, though I wish these were things that were done straight from the factory. The only other thing I intend to do is swap out the mechanical brakes for some hydraulic brakes. The brakes that come with it are garbage. Overall, it’s a good bike at the price point. You likely won’t find another bike with the same specs in the same price range. However, I’m a little picky with my bikes and needed to make adjustments to this one. In any case, I would certainly recommend this bike.
Great FIrst Mountain Bike
My son who just turned 5 in April loves this bike. It is well built with appropriate entry level, yet quality components. He is 44 inches tall, and the bike looks proportional for his size. It has a forgiving geometry with a low stand-over height. This is a lot more bike that his previous 16 inch steel kids bike, but as an advanced rider (for his age) he has gotten used it very quickly. The grip shift can be challenging for him to twist, but we've only had the bike for a week, so I'm sure he will get used to it. Like other reviewers have posted, I'll probably get quick release axles for the wheels and seat post for quicker trail side repairs and adjustments. Also, a very quick turnaround on shipping. I placed the order over the weekend, received notice the bike had been assembled Monday morning, and it arrived Tuesday!
Great value, need to keep an eye on rear hub.
Good value for the money, but concerned with rear hub/axle wobble that was determined to be 'normal' by the REI bike tech. The rear hub seems pretty exposed compared to others I have, but that may just be the design of this particular inexpensive hub build for kids.
Her First MTB
We got this for my daughter after seeing her having a hard time with a bike we bought at another store. That bike was so heavy, 1 gear and the seat height was too high. After buying this one for her, she will able to learn how to switch gears, use the handbrakes with in a couple minutes. Just to see her really enjoy this bike was good for me. We now can go on a 3-4 mile bike run without have to stop cause she couldn't make it up a hill. I upgraded her bike front fork suspension and replace the grip shifter with a trigger shifter. She really enjoys riding her back anywhere now.
Perfect bike for 7 year old son
This bike was a birthday gift for my 8 year old son and he just fall in love with it at first look. He is an avid biker and we were looking a decent bike for him that comes with disk brakes and entry level gears. This bike has all what we were looking for and the price is comparatively very good as to other branded bikes.
Great quality bike
I got my 7yo this bike. It’s the third co-op bike for our family if that tells you anything. It’s a nice, solid good quality bike. He learned to ride on a 16in bike my husband got from Amazon that lasted long enough for him to learn and then it fell apart. This bike is awesome and my son is small for his age but rode it and handled it quite easily. He loves the beefy tires and is excited to take it on the trails. Love the matte blue. It’s lightweight. I think it’s worth it’s price. Very happy with it
Great bike with one recommended upgrade
We shopped 20” mtb options from several high end brands before settling on the REV 20. It offers solid components on a light-enough frame and excellent value. Pros: seat, tires, brakes, frame Cons: grip shifter and grips To elaborate a bit: a grip shifter is a terrible idea for a mountain bike at any size or age range. They’re difficult to use with gloves and can be accidentally shifted when things get rough. My son has also twisted the “grip” half of the right hand grip completely off the bar. We will be replacing the grip shifter with a 6spd button shifter ASAP. Even considering that cost, it’s still a good value.
He loves it!
My 7 year old grandson has been to the bike park several times As well as local trails and is very confident with this bike. He just moved up from a 16”. It’s well put together bike that turns heads. The extra fat tires are perfect for him and he maneuvers it likes he’s been riding it for years. Very happy with this purchase.
Awesome bike!
I bought this last week for my seven year old after looking at all types/makes of bikes to upgrade from a 16 inch training bike. This bike has a great profile that kids will love and will want to ride which has been the case for my son. Every day he wants to ride and go further each time. While we are out, he always gets compliments about how nice his bike is. It’s sturdy(handles bumps and riding off curbs), rides smooth and has room to grow as we hit the trails. I highly recommend this bike, it has good features for the money and all the intangibles to make a cool bike for a 7 year old.
