For the clumsy, big, sharp-nailed pup in your life
I purchased this to be an indoor/outdoor “place” mat for my service dog in training that we could also use for fun activities like hiking, camping, picnics together. My 11 month old rottweiler has been on and off of this mat every way imaginable in all terrains, on gravel, in all weather, while playing or working, and I’ve never been happier with any mat I’ve used for service dogs. Matador stands up to heavy use by my silly, clumsy puppy almost every day since I bought it, and there are no rips, tears, stains anywhere on it. It mostly brushes or wet-wipes clean with no hassle! It folds pretty neatly back into the bag, or if you’re like me, it stuffs well enough back in that it stays until you need it next. Small enough to slip into a service dog vest pocket without sacrificing other necessary items, but large enough for a human and a rottweiler to sprawl out together. Short version: it can withstand a rottweiler. Get it.

Not waterproof
Bought this last week because it advertises as waterproof and puncture resistant. Over the weekend went for a hike and had lunch sitting in a wet log, soaked buttcheeks after 1min. Frustrated, I tested again on some damp grass by the lake. Water passes right thru it. For $30, it’s not worth it. Better off just packing a sheet a plastic than buying this thing. Expensive Gimmicky Junk.

Handy, but not the most durable

As a college student, I really like to keep this blanket in my backpack to relax in the grass outside in-between classes. I'd say it's perfect for casual use, but I haven't used it in wet or rough conditions, like hiking or backpacking. It is very light though, so when it's windy you have to use the stakes or corner pockets. The reason I don't give it 5 stars is because 2 of my stakes have broken off, and I couldn't find where they went. I could probably figure out some easy way to reattach them if I had them. If you buy this make sure to be gentle with the stakes when you pull them out of the ground.

Love it! So light so packable

I can carry this in my fanny pack! Used this at festivals and at the airport as something to lay down on. Should have totally taken this backpacking! Pros: light, durable, packable, has little built in stakes (have not used these yet) Cons: hard to pack back in its case because the material the case is made of isn’t stretchy Im going to use a little drawstring bag to carry this around cause getting it in the red pouch is annoying. Would buy again :) Also this company makes awesome products! Check out their online shop on their site. I also have their 30L packable duffel bag which is amazing! But REI doesn’t carry that yet.

Great for whatever you need

This is a thin, pocket sized waterproof sheet. We bought this for a camping trip on a Florida barrier island (think lots of rain and sand) and it worked perfectly on day hikes as a beach blanket, an impromptu sleeping mat for my husband, and a waterproof wrap for our bags when it started to pour. I took off one star because the red thread in the hem and the folding lines started to scrunch up after one wash. Also: the bag will fold up nicely if you go corner to corner instead of trying to fold on the thread. Obviously you get a nicer fold in your house than in the field but it can be done.

This was a big hit

It may seem pricey, but this is an amazing piece of gear. Bought this for my co-grandma (I'm the other one). We both love taking our grandson to do things. She and her husband do plenty of outdoors activities, this is a legit blanket about the size of a cigarette pack (sorry). This means, it will fit into a small purse, and is very light for its size. My daughter ended up wanting one, too. It's not cheap, but it's a well designed multi-use blanket. I had in mind, they may want to use it for picnics, church on the beach in Torrance, and other spur of the moment outings.

Add this to your hiking kit

Perfect size and weight, fits in a pocket or hip-pack, and very easy to fold back up into it's pouch. My girlfriend and I don't like having to carry extra gear or weight when we hike, but whenever we find a great spot to stop and lay down, I always wish I had a blanket. We can both lie down on it, or four people can sit on it. There's also a mini size model for one laying/two sitting and fits in the palm of your hand! I've been eyeing this product online for a couple of years and I was happily surprised when I saw REI was stocking it in-store and grabbed it right away.

One of my most useful REI purchases

The blanket is so small I take it everywhere I go and never have a wet butt! I use it at least 4 times a week to sit in the park and read. Even though it’s very light, I have never had a problem with the edges flying up because of the stakes and weights in the corners. Don’t be concerned about being able to pack it back into the pouch. It is super easy to pack back into its case because of the folding lines sewn in.

Great for Anywhere

This pocket blanket is great for laying out at the park whenever I feel like it. I have used it about 10 times in the first 2 weeks and overall it has served its purpose so I can walk up to the park, whip the Matador out from my pocket and take a break from being cooped up in the house with everyone. The Matador packs down into the tiny pouch that is attached and fits easily in the pocket of my shorts. I saw a few reviews that mention difficulty fitting the blanket back into the pouch, but I have not had a problem with this since there are lines sewn into the blanket that show you where to fold. It is a tight fit...but that is kinda the point, it is really compact. I have also used the attached mini stakes each time so that it doesn't fly away. I have been really gentle with the stakes and avoided trying to pitch the blanket super tight and have not had any problems. I did run into a lack of waterproofness on my 2nd or 3rd use as a couple reviews mentioned. When I got home, I sprayed on a coat of Nikwax waterproof and have not had any issues since. I have tested it out on fairly wet grass and it has performed well. Overall I am really satisfied.

Works fine, can’t stand folding it up though

I’m someone who likes things packing up and folding nice and tidy. This pocket blanket is what taught me that through my frustration with it. When you buy it, a machine probably ironed along the fold lines and got it as perfect as can be. Challenge accepted, but I’ve failed to even come close. Additionally the sleeve has a tendency to slide off. It’s super lightweight, which is good, but also needs to be anchored down with other things so that it stays in place. In areas I’ve used it, even small amounts of wind tends make it hard to lay flat and the wind will also lift it up. It does the job just fine but I don’t think my intended uses for it make it the most ideal for a surface below my butt. I’d prefer something that folds away nicely and with maybe a little more thickness to it, even if it weighs just a little more.

NOT Water Resistant

I bought the estate and use it the next day on a hiking to Rampart Lakes. I Place The Matador at the entrance to my tent in a dry grassy area. when I got up the next morning I noticed a lot of condensation under the Matador and then whenever I touched it or put a foot on it or knee or hand water came through immediately. At first I was looking for what was making it wet and then I finally realized it was just water coming directly through the Matador. I found it not to be at all water resistant and I'm certain that if you put it on anything damp and set down or kneel down on it you will get wet. I returned it when I got back from my trip. What I will buy to replace it is an inexpensive footprint for a tent that is definitely waterproof.
