These are very good snowshoes, with one issue that is unique to a certain boot style/design. You may find they work great with your setup, or like me you will find that your boot destroys the binding foam. Your mileage may vary. At the very least bring the boot you're going to use with these in and see if it creates the same problem I experienced. These are essentially the Tubbs Wayfinders with a heel lift. The heel lift is nice for gentle rolling hills, but the spikes on the bottom are not aggressive enough to take these onto terrain where a heel lift is usually necessary. I also own MSR Lightning Ascents and use those for real heel lift territory like mountains. This is my first experience with a BOA binding, and aside of the foam issue I experienced the BOA system is great. SO FAST! Snowshoes are locked on with zero slippage or any need for adjustment. They don't pack down nearly as well as the Paragon mesh of the Lightning Ascents. I would be sold on the BOA system entirely if it weren't for the self-destruct feature of the Panoramic's unique binding. My issue, and why I removed one star, is because of all this extra red foam found on the underside of the top plate of the BOA binding. Other BOA setups do not have as much foam, or thinner foam, or foam in a different shape. These seem to have a generous amount of foam, but in the case of pairing these with Salomon Toundra Pro boots, it created a problem (see pics). Your boots may also saw into this foam, and my shoeshoes saw this foam ripped down to the plastic after only a few trips snowshoeing. The boots are also stained with microscopic red foam dust. When I contacted Tubbs about this issue, they simply directed me to a partner website where I could buy replacement parts. They were not interested in how the problem happened, pictures, passing it along to a design team etc. I ended up making my own reinforcement pads out of the bottom of an old pair of OR Crocodile Gaiters, and that sits in between this dainty foam and my boot. Once this is solved and the snowshoes no longer self-destruct, they become a great pair of snowshoes for flat terrain. Recommend with reservations depending on the boot you'll use.
BOA system is excellent, hope for a more float on soft snow but overall great snowshoe
This is my second set of Tubbs snowshoes. The first set bought ten years ago is still in fine shape, but are 12x36 and I've lost over 100 lbs. My insulated boots don't fit into the newer bindings many companies use with a hard plastic toe box. The boa binding on these is wide open and works great. I just used them and they worked very well. On and off was a breeze. When we got into five feet of untouched snow, rare for us, I could have used more flotation, but the freedom of the smaller 25 inch shoes was excellent everywhere else.
After 25 years getting lots of wear out of a pair of Tubbs, this winter I've seen bunches of folks walking in the woods with upgraded versions of snowshoes, some of which were Tubbs. I'm finally paying attention! Time for a change, and boy has the technology advanced! So I bought these Panoramics. I am 80 years old, 5'10", 160 lbs, size 9.5 boot, with years of experience snowshoeing and xc skiing. Compared to my older Tubbs, which were approx. 36 inches long, my new pair is marked at 25. Shortly after we got 2 feet of snow, I took my new Tubbs for a work-out. Done that a couple of times, each time for a hour, each time on diverse terrain. These Panoramics are really easy to get in and out of (the BOA Fit System works just as advertised), and they are very light under foot. Compared to my older Tubbs, my new ones do not have as much float, but they are study enough to blaze a trail fairly easy. Lots of winter left! Very glad I bought a pair.
I've hiked 5 miles off trail in two feet of snow with these, and they've worked great. At 5'8" tall and 135 lbs., I use the 25" size. The BOA binding makes them easy to put on and fits any size boot. They are well made and excellent quality. Some reviewers mention the plastic BOA knob breaking when releasing, so just tighten for a snug fit, not too tight, and they’ll release easily. I highly recommend.
