I am a senior citizen and have severe arthritis in both ankles. After experimenting with many brands that advertise how great they are for walking, I purchased these hikers to provide support and comfort on my daily 3 to 4 mile walks with my pooch. They are awesome and I am able to maintain my daily walks without the pain and discomfort I normally experience. Great support with the extra bonus of not looking like an orthopedic shoe and keeping my feet dry in the slushy snow banks. Thanks Oboz. . .

nice construction but narrower than original

Bought these b/c I had the first gen Sawtooth and liked them. The new one is an example of "new and DE-improved". Much narrower than original version. If you have C-D width feet, you will definitely need the wide. Couldn't wait to get my feet out of them. On the plus side, they seem just as well-built as original. Have a very firm midsole; this is not a cush shoe, but it is supportive.

Super Comfy

I tried multiple hiking shoes as a comparison and this one certainly wins! The shape of the sole makes you feel it’s one piece with your foot. Very easy to walk and it’s actually softer than most books because of the breathable net design. The only CON would be it’s one of the heaviest shoe I’ve ever own. I need to try more hikes before I could confirm the weight won’t be a burden on me. Otherwise, do for it. It’s TRUE-TO-SIZE. And the quality is solid. It makes me want to hike more after purchasing this!

Waterproof, flexible and comfortable fun

I'm a 60+ year old with bunions, achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis! I just can't give up hiking. This is the first pair of wide hiking shoes/boots I've ever owned. I've always worn boots, but decided to try shoes this time. I was concerned that my heel would slip but doesn't. I always wear them with REI midweight wool hiking socks. These shoes required no breaking in and have been in the Idaho Cabinet Mountains, Glacier National Park and Beartooth Mountains, to name a few. They are firm enough to support yet flexible enough to be comfortable. I highly recommend any shoe that has waterproofing. And I highly recommend these Oboz hiking shoes.

super comfortable

I wish I had bought these years ago. I bought them before a trip to AZ and didn't have time to break them in. I didn't need to. They were super comfortable all day, every day. It made hiking so much easier. We hiked part way into the Grand Canyon. We also hiked up Cathedral Rock and Deer Mountain in the Sedona area. These boots kept me from slipping on the rocks. I tried them because my daughter bought a pair a couple of years ago and told me they were so comfortable that she was wearing them every day. I have wide feet and need arch support. My local REI didn't carry this in wide, but the toe box was just wide enough to fit. They have great arch support. I'm very happy with these.

Fantastic Hiking Shoes

I have finicky feet...high arches, wide at the toe area, plus I deal with heal pain and plantar fasciitis. These hiking shoes are incredible! I put on my thick hiking socks, test drove them for 2 miles and had zero issues. Normally I wear a size 8.5 in regular shoes like Vionic sneakers and Ecco shoes and usually wear a size 9 in hiking shoes/boots. I was wearing Salomon hiking boots but they were a bit narrow and on long hikes my pinky toes were hurting. When the REI salesperson brought the 10 out for me I winced since I've never in my life worn a size 10 and not even a 9.5, but he was right. They run very small but the size 10 is perfect. Thank you!

No More Limping - Amazing Support

These shoes offer amazing support. With narrow feet, ridiculously high arches, and ankle/tendon issues, finding the perfect shoe looked impossible. As a teacher, I spend a lot of time on my feet, and these have been a life-saver. The narrow heel cup keeps my foot still so nothing rubs my Achilles. The insole is perfectly shaped to support my high arches, and the soft yet stable design at the opening allows flexibility in my ankles while still providing ample support. Currently, these are used for school and any other off-trail walking. As soon as I wear out my pair of Oboz Luna, I will switch to these for hiking, too. Overall, I highly recommend this product.

Comfortable...?

I bought it at the REI store with my bf who also bought the Men's mid Sawtooth BDry. His pair is very comfortable on either rocky trails, wet stone roads or even walking in the snow but I had a completely different experience. I have been wearing it for several times on different trails- about 2-4 miles long each time- and every time it makes me feet pain at the inner side of the ball. Sweats and moisture are locked in the shoe due to the thickness of the material and the waterproof function. My socks are always wet so I also had blisters on both feet at the inner side of the ball. This is a sturdy shoe, but unfortunately doesn't get along well with me.

Best shoes ever!

I have been looking for comfortable hiking shoes/boots for a number of years. With wide feet and bunions, my search has been unsuccessful until I tried these shoes. They are the most comfortable I have had in years. I sized up 1/2 size as other reviewers suggested. Right out of the box, they were great! No breaking in period needed. The toe box is roomy and the width accommodates a very large bunion with no pressure points. If you have troublesome feet, try these. You won't be disappointed. I will be trying them out on a day-long hike in a couple of days and am expecting a very comfortable experience.

very good all-around walking shoe

These shoes are great, even for urban walking. My feet need more firm support than most walking shoes provide, and I was fortunate to find these. Bought them for a trip to New Orleans where I was averaging 5-7 miles per day walking around and seeing the sights for a month. My feet did not develop cramps on the ball of the foot as they often do...were just cradled by these insoles and had no complaints. Using them now as part of a regular exercise program in my suburban neighborhood.

Not the Oboz I knew and LOVED

Had a pair of Oboz Sawtooths that I LOVED, wore for years, put on and never had to break in. But the tread was going so I purchased the exact same model, even in the exact same color. Sorely disappointed. Came home with blisters after first short hike. Arch support did not seem as high. The entire shoe felt a lot stiffer than I remember. Very disappointed because I LOVED my old ones but I was slipping on gravel and when scaling rocks. Oboz was acquired in 2018 by Katmandu, a New Zealand outdoor company. That was probably the death knell. My Oboz will be going back and i will have to find another hiking shoe.
