We have one of these and today I'm buying a second. The first one has gone with us to Ireland (up to the summit of Croaigh Patrick) and into the backwoods of Idaho. We put snacks, water, clothing, stuff we buy, etc. in there as the day goes on. Because it's so small and light, it's indispensable as a daypack when it's not convenient to pack a heavier pack in your backpacking kit or in your luggage. No, the straps aren't padded and it lacks the support of a full-on daypack, but a full-on daypack can't realistically go with you everywhere like this thing can. Stuffing it back in its carrying sack is only hard the first time. Ignore reviews to the contrary.
I bought this for a backpacking trip to Olympic because it was so light and compact. I didn’t expect much and picked it up thinking I’d use it for one day hike. I was shocked by how great it is! I packed it with a rain jacket, puffy, water bottle, a filter, snacks, a first aid kit, and some other stuff for a 19 mile day hike to Mt. Olympus. It survived rain, snow, sweating, and once being dropped. It doesn’t have a scratch and was comfortable for the whole day. It’s not as comfortable and doesn’t have the adjustable fit like my osprey day pack, but for 2 oz, I didn’t expect to be this impressed. I’ve taken it out on several day hikes in AZ in the heat and been just as impressed.
This bag works great for times when I only need to carry round a few items that won’t otherwise fit in my pockets and I don't want the extra bulk a typical backpack has. It weighs almost nothing, compresses to a size between a D battery and a tennis ball and is a no-brainer add-on whenever traveling/hiking/camping. I wouldn’t recommend it for large volumes of stuff and sharp/pointy objects might be a problem. If carrying keys, I'll usually pad them with a sock/tshirt. I usually throw in my tablet, phone, wallet, water bottle and a change of clothes on a typical excursion. I think it would be a great gift for pre-teens and up or anyone who bikes/hikes.
I have this bag primarily to carry my small backpack when it rains, and as a small day bag. This bag is a lightweight thin water resistant zipper sack that can fold into itself to be packed as a tight little cylinder. When it is unfurled and in use as a bag, the sack in which it packs itself into is available inside as a small hanging pocket—great for keys, cards, or other loose items. On my small body, the straps are not able to tighten enough to keep the pack tight to my body. This bag will not last forever. This bag is not waterproof.
I absolutely loved this day pack. I was hesitant to purchase as I felt the price tag was a little steep for the product, but it is worth its weight in gold. I used it daily on the Camino Frances this past September/October. The zipper did not fail, and it held everything I needed for the day- fruit, water, poncho, wind breaker, and fleece jacket. I also used it for shopping a few groceries daily. It was really comfortable and I couldn't feel the weight. I did however have to tie the straps closer together at the top of the bag as they were too wide for my shoulders. I would suggest that perhaps a design modification be researched for this particular issue. I highly recommend this day pack. It was a life saver.
I love how compact and lightweight this little day pack is. I took it backpacking with me for my solo trip to Havasupai and used it throughout my entire trip to Havasu, Mooney and Beaver Falls - I definitely recommend it for backpacking trips and day hikes!
Needed a lightweight, packable - affordable - day pack to take on backpacking trips. When at camp and needing to go find/filter water, it was great to put my bottles and reservoir in this light pack -- while having my hands free while following trail(s) to water. Bought it 2 days before the trip --- JUST IN TIME. I wish the straps were a tad more substantial - but not enough to add much weight.
I bought four of these as Christmas gifts. This is an incredible pack. Three years ago I used this as my "day bag" when I was in town for laundry or to pick up supplies on a cross country bicycle trip. This past summer I used the pack as my "around town" bag while walking the Camino in Spain. When not being used they tuck in your pocket. Several people bought them in Spain after seeing mine.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this compact Ultra-Sil Day Pack especially when I travel. It is very helpful. I carry it in my purse until that gets too loaded or the crossbody strap gets annoying, then pull out this pack. It will carry my purse plus a light sweater or whatever else I happen to stuff in it. Putting the weight on two shoulders can be more comfortable. This pack is light duty so does not offer comfort when carrying heavy loads for long periods of time. Also be careful of stuffing in pointy or sharp objects. I recommend this pack for when you need additional carrying capacity, such as hiking and needing a place to carry the warmth layers you are peeling off.
I read a lot of great reviews about this ultralight daypack and I generally love Sea to Summit products. However, I was disappointed to find several holes after minimal wear and tear fro average usage. I used it probably a dozen times, and holes have already developed in the fabric. It's definitely lightweight but unfortunately sacrifices quality and durability. If I lived somewhere near an REI, I would return it.
