Very dissatisfied with this boot, ESPECIALLY for $

I purchased this boot wanting a great quality made in USA boot that I could shine up and wear for business etc. At first the boot looked great and after a break in period felt good too. In just a matter of around 6 months it started to develop cracks even with me using Huber boot oil recommended for them and Kiwi black liquid shine wax. I have hunting boots that have been mistreated and rode hard and put up wet that still look great. But these boots have now went beyond cracks but are peeling. A Red Wing boot that has been babied and not even put to work looks worse than my work boots or hunting boots that are years and years and one pair over 15 years older. For the price they cost this is very unsatisfactory. Though they appear to be put together well they are not holding up and uglied out too quick. I've been caring for boots since I was a kid and this is the worst pair to hold up and the most expensive pair aside from a pair of hiking boots. I have 25 year old leather dress shoes that look like the day I bought them. Those hiking boots are 30 years old now and are in great shape. The other boot that can be seen in the pic is older than these boots and is worn in a steel factory etc plus gets some time in the farm mud and then hosed off with high pressure. These boots should do better. Maybe I have a pair of duds but if they are all like this I would stay away.

Great for working in the office do not get them wet!

These boots are great for looking trendy in the office. I bought the iron rangers thinking they would be good durable work boots. My feet have narrow insteps and are wide at the toe, making it difficult to find work boots that don't pinch nerves in the bottom of my foot, so I bought these boots one size down from 9-1/2 in an E width which worked well after break in. The iron rangers broke in and formed to my foot over a one month break in period on concrete floors and performed well while working on tasks ranging from wood working, welding, foundry working, interior demolition, plumbing and other maintenance related tasks. I fully understand what happens when leather gets wet, however and unfortunately I got caught in a downpour while planting trees and could not leave the job undone, which resulted in these boots getting wet. Although these were oiled regularly the result was that the leather insole got wet, shrunk, curled and separated from the footbed. Redwing repair said that they can not repair/replace the insole.

Still great nearly 100 years later

Got my IR8085's about 6 months ago and they are now my go to boot. I own quite a few heritage boots from competitors and these have become my favorite for day to day wear. I wear a 9.5/10D depending on brand and I got these in a 9.5D. With thick socks they fit snug but not unbearably tight. A lot of room in the toe box but snug and supportive at the arch and heel. The break in period was *rough*, as with most full leather construction heritage boots, but after about 1-2 months they feel great. The full leather construction will never feel like a modern boot, its just not what they are, but after the break in period they are they boots I go for every day. To break them in I would wear them until my feet started to feel fatigued and then I would change into a shoe/boot that was already broken in. Over time I stopped having to switch shoes. Pros: These are a versatile and durable boot that look stylish and also get the job done. A great entry point to the heritage boot world that won't break the bank like other heritage brands. The copper coloring fades beautifully and develops its own personality after a while. If you like the "out of the box" look of these, you're going to have to accept the fact that they will change color and texture over time. They'll darken in constant friction spots (ankle where jeans rub etc) and lighten in the creases. Cons: Iron Rangers no longer are a great "work" boot by comparison. These are a culmination of 1920's and 30's technology to make a specific boot for the time. Now days other RW boots like the (s914) Supersoles or (s405)Traction Treds are going to be better for actual manual labor work. It would be dishonest to say these would make a great boot for roofing or laying concrete. Iron Rangers make a great day to day boot to replace a tennis shoe/light boot. Stylish enough to dress up, and casual enough to beat the heck out of them. If you need a dedicated manual labor boot I'd suggest something else. If you need a day to day boot that you can mow the lawn in, walk the dog, pick up the kids, go to the store, ride your motorcycle, work in the shop, and not realize you are still wearing them after 12 hours...these are it.

Great Boot - My first Iron ranger

My wife gifted me this 8085s this year after learning about my love for an iron ranger. We just came back from an one bagging trip to Italy and the only boot/shoe I carried was the one i was wearing. I was worried about the rain but the 8085s served me well. I wore it everyday for 17 days and never had any issues walking around in it. Absolutely in awe and love the craftmanship. Keep at it guys and wish you all the best. Regards, Prague

i bought my 1st pair of iron ranger 8085 copper rough & tough and i just love them i love the feel of a sturdy boot and they go with anything you put on. i even noticed people checking out my iron ranger's. so a week later i got the 8084 black then i just had to get 1 more pair 4640. they take a little time breaking in. but that's because of the quality of the iron ranger boot.

They take a beating

Ok, so I've owned my Iron Rangers going on 4 years now. If I'm not at work, this is my go to boot. Fit great right out of the gate. Ordered online and used the sizing info and recommendations from the website. We do a lot of hiking/walking/climbing on all sorts of terrain, in all sorts of weather. Pair these with a quality pair of wool socks and you've got a total winner. Leather takes a beating and still looks good. Soles are great,in my experience. They can get a bit slippery on certain surfaces. Nothing that's been a deal breaker for me though. I treat them in the Spring and Fall. If you're gonna spend big$$ on footwear it's super important to care for them properly. They just keep looking better and better with age! My only mod was a nice, custom made set of inserts for the soles as I've got some medical issues with my feet that require extra support here and there. Overall, highly recommend. Remember,if they fit properly, the break in period should be minimal and more importantly, not painful as I've seen some folk say.

Purchase in person

I ordered these here and received them quickly which I appreciated, but was disappointed with the quality control of the boots upon opening the box. Lots of visible, shiny glue on both sides of both boots and what looks like missing stitching in parts.

Incredibly disappointed

This is my first purchase and am so disappointed in the state these boots arrive in. Pictures speak for themselves. I can’t believe these were packaged and sent in this condition.

Super rugged look!

I bought my Copper Rough and Tough IRs from a redwing store in Long Island. A bit pricey but boy they're worth it. Sizing is a bit difficult. The salesman at the store measured my feet and suggested to go down half size to 11. I usually wear 11.5 in sneakers and 11 in casual/ dressy shoes. The 11 felt way too big. He then brought me a size 10 which felt too tight and I couldn't wiggle my toes. He went back and brought me a 10.5 which felt good if a little too big. I finally settled on the 10.5 as I intend to wear the boots with insoles for additional comfort. Started my breaking in and hopefully it won't last more than a week.

Still having problems

This is a follow up to a review from a month ago under the same title. I have been wearing these boots for over a month 5-6 times a week for 10-16 hours. I have discovered why this second pair of boots do not feel the same. one boots heel cap was stitched on square and even (left) while the other boot heel cap is crooked (right). this disparity has caused the break in of these boots to feel extremely different. there is just too much material in a place where it ought not be. i do not believe they will ever feel anywhere close to similar on me heel regardless of break in. i have resorted to trying to hammer down the raised area on the right portion of the right heel just to not have a major pressure point on this foot. i have not yet decided whether i will attempt a refund or continue hammering away.
