Not the same
The exterior appearance is the same as the iconic version from the late 90’s, however the fill level of down is not the same. I would estimate each compartment has roughly 60% of the down fill that the originals did. As someone that has an original one still I can confirm side by side the lack of down in each compartment is glaring. I was very excited to purchase this but have been disappointed by the choice northface made to use less down to save money. Not the same as it used to be, but still looks great.
I'm definitely happy with my purchase
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My first vest purchase and it will not be my last. I would love a red and black color ( my 2 favorite colors)
Nice vest.
It is perfect for late fall and early winter. It's warm and light.
Order Down a Size
Nice Vest, I'm 5'11" 185lbs, large size t shirt, 33" waist. I ordered a Medium and it fits like a vest. not tight & not like a large that is recommended. Main reason for losing one star, those of us that have been buying THF for over 45 years can see the penny pinching cost saving TNF is attempting today. The zipper pulls have gone from a decent pull to a 350 cord to now a ribbon, and now the loop to hang up the vest went from 2 sewing attachments to one. All of these may save a whole quarter in manufacturing per garment? We do notice this.
Nice Vest
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like the 1996 Retro Numptse vest , I just wish it was a little longer and had a drop tail ,I like that it can turn into a pouch if it get too warm and I have to take it off .I use it mostly in the city I'm from New York city. When I'm out shopping and go into malls or different stores sometimes it's warm and I have to take it off .I think it's real stylish and cool looking for the young and the older generation make or female.
I would definitely be buying this in more colors!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband has been telling me he wanted a vest for a while. So I had to get this for him for Christmas! He loves it! I was a little worried about his shoulders and chest because he has the build of a football player and it's always hard to find things that fit him. But it fights perfect and he can still layer it if he wants and still be able to zip it up! For reference his chest/ shoulders are a 44. Warm as well! He hates coats
Amazing product
This vest is amazing. I've had different versions of the Nuptse vest and this one is by far the best. It's identical to my very first one that had the bigger baffles. I prefer that. It's light weight and warm. It's very stylish too. I have got many compliments on it. I have paired it with a hoody, long sleeve shirt, my Apex Flex GTX jacket and my Borod fleece. Love The North Face and Love The Nuptse
Frayed within weeks of purchase
I bought this vest three weeks ago and the chest started to fray and fall apart. I reached out as they have a lifetime warranty and I was told that they can't replace it. Horrible customer service and they definitely don't live up to this "life time warranty" for such a high priced and supposed quality product. Really disappointed
Mostly ok, but meh
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The vest body for the most part is excellent. Warm, breathable and relitively durable. The Nuptse vest has been my primary working outerwear for over a decade in the frigid temps of south central Alaska. However, the new "Retro" line with stoeable hood is odd and laughable.. The rolled hood is thin and worthless in anything less than 40F. I much prefer the older style, with the full down filled coller. The nuptse vest world be infinitely better if it had 800+ fill down, two vertical chest pockets, high abrasion cordura shoulder protection and the option for a full coverage down hood
Warm, lightweight, but a little short
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the warmth this vest offers. 700 fill power is in the higher quality tier of down. This also makes it lightweight and compressible. My only gripe is what a lot of other people have stated about both the Nuptse vest and jacket. It's a little short. Why hasn't TNF addressed this yet? It's been years people have been complaining about the length of these. It needs to be like an inch longer, especially in the jacket. I imagine it's quite uncomfortable when cold air sneaks in underneath. It's doesn't bother me too much with the vest though because I usually layer with a hoodie.
