Used in East Enfd of London
Left my $1000 bike left in the East end of London over the weekend with 2 of these locks. Previously had my bike stolen from this spot. Came back to find someone had tried to break the lock but had been unsuccessful. Lock still functions absolutely fine.

Terrible customer service from Kryptonite
I bought this $100+ lock from REI and found that one of the keys was slightly bent. I contacted Kryptonite by phone (long wait time; no pick up), website (long registration; no response) and email (received automated no-reply with a promise that I'd hear from somebody). Two months later still no response, never mind the replacement keys that I requested. No complaints with REI but I'll never buy anything from Kryptonite again.

Appears Super Solid - much better than OnGuard

I had an OnGuard U-lock that lasted me 10+ years, but the mounting bracket finally broke, and the other plastic pieces have been breaking off. I’ve noticed the Kryptonite New York Standard U-Lock is heavier and appears to be much more solid than the OnGuard U-Lock. I’ve been expecting the OnGuard plastic keys to break since I bought it. Thankfully they never did, but I immediately noticed the Kryptonite keys are metal and appear to be much more durable. The mounting bracket is a lot more secure and has a better attachment mechanism than OnGuard. I am very impressed and pleased with the Kryptonite U-lock, definitely worth the price.

Highest Rated for a Reason

Understand that with enough tools, and time, ANY lock can be cut through or picked. Having said that, this is the top of the line. It requires serious lock picking skills and specialized tools to pick, and in most instances two cuts with an angle grinder to get through. If you’re looking to buy just one lock, and have to leave your expensive bike somewhere questionable for more than a few minutes, this is the lock to use. Make sure you register it with Kryptonite. That’s the only way they will warranty it (and possibly your bike), and the only way they’ll replace the key if you lose it.

very secure, but very heavy

Bought this lock for a new ebike that would need to locked up, in direct line of sight, for 8-10 hours daily. The lock seems very secure, and I opted for the 5 year $4,000 insurance policy for only $25. I can’t fault the lock or key design in anyway. The bracket to mount the lock to the bike frame is not perfect though. Actually it’s the main weak point of the package. The lock is SO heavy, the mounting bracket won’t stay in any one position for more than 3-5 miles of commuting. I’ve tried it several different places on the bike, and the lock is crooked, hitting my leg or scratching the frame by the end of that ride. So I carry the lock in my backpack. Fine on an ebike, absolute deal breaker if I were riding a standard bicycle.

Beefy Lock

Great lock. I take this lock with me several days of the week commuting around SF and always feel secure leaving my bike no matter what part of the city I'm in. However, this thing is a tank and you will notice the extra lbs. I don't mind personally, but for the weight conscious...beware!

Very secure lock

Very secure lock. I'm subtracting one start because the mounting bracket is not very good. That seems to common across this line. I just use my cycling pack that has a holder. Otherwise I would recommend a rack mount.

The standard for a reason

I lock my expensive bikes with confidence, it sets the bar pretty high . It's the standard to measure any portable lock up to. The New York is my daily lock, the kryptonite New York noose is my home lock for 3 bikes.

My daughter’s graduation gift is gone

I don’t blame Kryptonite, at least not entirely. We bought our college freshman an expensive mountain bike from REI and your $100+ lock to go with it. Unbeknownst to us, she trusted your lock instead of wisely storing her bike in her dorm room during winter break. Why leave it out in the elements when it costs so much, right? First day back after break, and she’s filing a police report with her bike’s serial number because she’s lazy and thought your lock was all she needed to keep her bike safe. Lesson learned! If you’re too careless with your possessions, it doesn’t matter how good the lock is. Apparently, a determined thief can still get it off.

Peace of mind heaviness

Found myself less anxious while grabbing post ride drinks knowing that a thief would need to make a complete scene in order to break this lock. Heavy but in a good way.
