False Advertising - NOT 100% Wool
I was all excited about a 100% wool glove liner that I dove in despite the reviews about its durability. After I brought it home, I checked the care tag for washing instructions when I see that this glove is actually only 88% merino wool, 12% nylon. I thought this was my oversight but Smartwool’s website, and REI’s, both say that that it’s 100% wool. The way they advertised this in their website, and packaging, is BLATANTLY FALSE, and very disappointing. By the way, if you spend about 5%, there are options that offer at about 8% more wool, and those brands are upfront about their gloves makeup.
Nice gloves with long fingers
I love the concept of these gloves and there's no one else who offers a thin, warm, breathable, comfortable wool glove. I agree the fit is large. I gave one to my son and bought a size down for myself. He loves them because they're great, warm and breathable for his winter runs. We both love them cause we're tall and they fit our long fingers. I wouldn't expect a glove like this to be durable for rockclimbing so disregard that reviewer - What are they thinking? However, I will have to exchange a pair because my son got a snag hole in them (hard to say whether it's a durability problem or whether that's just a kid....
Good gloves, poor stitching
The gloves themselves are comfortable. They fit nicely under another pair and are long enough to tuck under jacket cuffs. The stitching on my right glove however was already unraveling at the wrist and thumb webbing leaving holes. They can be sewn but it is disappointing at this price.
Only useful as a liner, size down
This product was nice at first, but I suggest sizing down as they stretch out quickly. The touch screen groves on them started pealing off pretty rapidly and they they were prone to holes
Decent Gloves Ruined by the Rubber Fingertips
These were almost the merino liner gloves I've been searching for. Tried them on in the store and found my right size. They felt okay, nice and warm, until I got home and actually used them for more than 2 minutes. The thumb and index finger with the rubber smartphone tips just doesn't feel comfortable. Its always rubbing against you on the inside, feeling awkward and when I took a look I found out why. Look at the attached photo. I've turned the thumb and index finger inside out and you can see these horrible rubber bits from the touch pad crudely stitched and left hanging so they rub against your finger. Once you realize its there, you can't unfeel it and you will be perpetually bothered by these uncomfortable numbs on the inside, particularly if you're using these as liners with another glove over top. I would love to just have a plain pair of these gloves without these awful touchpads on them. They really ruin these gloves. I'll be returning them as an unsatifactory product and continuing my search.
Soft but not pratical for activities
These gloves are soft and warm with the quality you expect from Smartwool. That said, they run large and are completely unstructured at the wrist and in between the fingers so they slide around and also don't really seal nicely to keep warmth in. It's difficult to keep a grip on objects and the smart phone operation is hit or miss. After a few wears one of the finger grips that enables touch screen is already starting to peel off. I'm keeping them to use as liner gloves under heavy duty ski mittens, but wouldn't recommend as a standalone item.
Terrible Function
I bought these gloves for walking the dogs. I tried them on in person and they seemed to fit great. I even tried M, L & XL to get the correct fit. I usually am a L or XL in most gloves and mittens. The L fit well in store. However after taking my dogs on multiple walks with them now I am not a fan and would not recommend them. They fall off my fingers and bunch up when I try to tie my shoes or boots. They don’t stay on when trying to use dog bags. They do not work with a phone you have to take the gloves off. After a week of use they are so loose and are worthless for driving or walking the dogs as they bunch up and begin to fall off.
Tech Finger Tips Wore Out in a month
Synthetic fibers make my hands feel clammy, so I was very happy to get a pair of wool gloves. Unfortunately, the tech surfaces on the finger-tips wore out within a few weeks, and within a month each place where there had been a tech compatible tip, there was a large hole. Very disappointed.
Great as a liner
I recently tried out the Smartwool Thermal Merino Gloves, and for the most part, I was pleased with their performance. These gloves excel at keeping my hands warm and cozy, even in chilly weather. The merino wool material is soft and comfortable, and the design allows for decent dexterity, making them great for outdoor activities like hiking or walking in the cold. However, I did notice that if I use them as standalone gloves without any additional protection, they tend to wear out rather quickly. The merino wool, while comfortable, isn’t as durable as some other materials, and I found that the gloves started to show signs of wear after just a few uses. Overall, if you’re looking for gloves that provide excellent warmth and comfort, the Smartwool Thermal Merino Gloves are a solid choice. Just be aware that if you plan on using them as standalone gloves, you may need to replace them more frequently than you’d like.
Not Durable
It's already ripped after 1 week. They're incredible soft and warm but, the durability is atrocious. I've used them on cold days, to cover my hands while I'm walking outside or protecting my hands from a cold steering wheel when I drive. The act of using them in this manner, and taking them off and on, is too much for this glove. I do not suggest this glove if you're using them frequently or will conduct any motion that will pull at the seams. On a positive note, the touch screen finger works really well and it feels good to wear. No complaints there.
