Werner Paddles Rock!

The Vibe is my 4th sup paddle and my second Werner. I opted for a second Werner paddle because my first one, a carbon fiber Trance, has been a mainstay on my sup outings and has never failed me. I trust in the quality of the Werner paddles and have not been disappointed with my Vibe. I purchased it because I needed to break it down and pack it with my inflatable for a trip to Hawaii. I had to navigate a variety of surf and beach/rock condition while needing the flexibility to adjust the paddle length, sometimes while out bobbing in the waves. The lever apparatus in the handle makes this a simple task. I was most interested in seeing just how solid the paddle felt in my hands when reassembled after shipping. No worries there...felt just as tight, with no weak, loose connection points. The blade itself withstood a reasonable anount of sand and rock friction. That left me reassured I had a reliable piece of equipment in my hands. This will be my go to loaner to any friend because if it’s versatility. Needless to say, I highly recommend. Spend the few extra bucks on a Werner and resist the temptation to spend less on an aluminum or seemingly similar fiberglass model from a competitor.

Ok for light use

At first this paddle seemed great. Nice fast strokes and felt solid. Unfortunately, the first one I owned broke after six months of use. I figured it was a fluke and exchanged it for the same model. Fortunately REI stands behind the products they sell and exchange was no issue. The second paddle broke after only four months! The handle broke in half in the exact same place as the first one. Seems like a design issue with the LeverLock handle. I put 12+ miles per week on the paddle and this model just doesn't hold up. It is probably fine for occasional light use. I'm not going to risk getting stuck out on the lake again with another one of these!

Fantastic family paddle

Bought two of these for family outings and both are great. Shaft size works for small and large hands. Adjusting mechanism works far better than stock paddles, with no bulbous part to get in the way when shifting grip. Fairly lightweight, but blade material can still take some abuse (won't need to be babied like a full carbon blade). Mine come apart just fine. But a tip for those who are having trouble anytime carbon/fiberglass shaft seems stuck -- rest a bag of ice on the seam for a bit. Sometimes heat swells the inner sleeve of a paddle/oar, so localized cold can shrink it and help you separate the sections. Not a problem I've had with this paddle, but I've used the trick on full carbon oars before.

Designed for durability. Nice blade design.

Love the durability and blade design. I do a lot of river paddling where I run shallows and navigate rocks, so need something that can stand up to a beating. Like other reviewers, sometimes the shaft can be a little challenging to disassemble, but after a few uses, I found it became easier. Certainly heavier than carbon fiber shafts and blades, but the trade-off for durability is worth it. Being able to take apart is great for storage in the back of my car.

Hard to take apart

Paddle is awesome. Light for not being carbon fiber, responsive strokes, & breaks into 3 pieces for easy storage. The adjustable length is great & give enough variability to play around with for being 6’0 tall. Only draw back is the connection between the paddle & the first piece. It’s a pain in the A$& to take apart. There’s gotta be an easier way, but I have to agree w/ previous review. Really hard to separate the paddle section with the mid section. Maybe that’s by design, I haven’t found an easy way yet.

If only it came apart...

Nice paddle for a style that is made with heavier, more robust materials, and is nice and solid for a 3 piece paddle. I returned the first one because after a few uses, I could not take it apart. The second one just failed in the same way - neither REI nor Werner can tell me how to get it apart so I will return this one as well and shop another brand. 2 starts because not being able to take it apart is better than not being able to put together.

2 or 3 piece?

Because of the reviews I went to the store to take a look at this paddle. Both myself and the nice young man at REI could not figure out how to break down this paddle. The top part came off easily, but we could break down the second part near the paddle blade. Could REI have the 2 part paddle instead of the the 3 part paddle?
