Solid pedal, easy in & out
Ok, so fit and float on clips is a matter of personal preference. These work for me, but it's really just what you like and what you're used to. That said, I love these because there's no "wrong way up". Just smack 'em in the right spot and you're ready to go. One less thing to think about. This is my second pair. The bearings finally died on the first pair after 5000 miles of road cycling in the hills and mountains around Seattle. I'm not a particularly light guy, and I ride hard. They've bee scraped up, ground into the pavement, and given plenty of tough love. The surround protects the business end of the clips and, quite frankly, just looks good. It also provide a bit of a platform if you you're sitting at a green light, missed the clip, and need to get a few pedal strokes in *now*. It's not enough of a platform to ride comfortably on much longer than that (the egg beater sticks up above it a little), but it helps. So 5000 miles seems like a fine service life for what I put these through, and I'm looking forward to the next 5K.
Not all accessories needed are included
If the cutout tool shows 2 shims are required, then WHY ARE THEY NOT INCLUDED??! These shims are small plastic pieces that wouldn't have hurt to add just 2 more to the package. Instaed, now, i have to order more shims and wait even longer to use the product i bought- which wasn't cheap. It's not like i went to Wal-Mart for these. Very unprofessional and thoughtless. No where does it state that you may need to purchase extra shims either. Also, if the tool shows you need a thicker traction pad they dont provide that either unless you buy the Candy 3.
Candy 2
First clipless pedal since a Shimano brand back in early 90's. These pedals work, easy in and real easy out. Maybe I walk a bit more than others having to climb over and around obstacles, mostly rocks so the cleats seem to be wearing away quite a bit and they're sunk below show soles. Not sure how long cleats will last? The platforms are good when wearing cycling shoes but not much there if wearing street shoes but will work.
Crank Brothers Candy 2
Great pedals. Retention is no where near as rigid as Shimano pedals, which I also ride, so I have the Candy's on my full suspension bike.
Cleet Pedals
Broad platform, snug locking, quick disengagement.
Solid pedal for XC MTB or gravel riding.
I've ridden eggbeaters for years on my mtb bike, and speedplays on my road bike. These give a little more platform than the eggbeaters but otherwise have the same mud clearance and easy engagement/disengagement of the eggbeaters. They're definitely heavier than either of my other pedals, but at the price, that's probably to be expected. Weight is the only thing keeping them from 5 stars.
