After buying and returning two other backpacks, I finally found one that fits all my needs. It has a nice padded section big enough for my 15 inch MacBook, which is in a folio case. It also has a separate section for my iPad. It does appear a little small on my back but it's is because I am used to wearing a men's size bag. I have already recommended this bag to several co-workers.
I purchased a Surge backpack for my son 2 years ago and it still looks brand new. He is not easy on it, so that is a testament to this product's durability. I've been so impressed that I purchased another for my daughter this year. The white and minty teal colors are really pretty. This backpack is large, so there's plenty of room for books, computer, binder, lunch bag, etc. I'm looking forward to not having to buy a bag every year, since I know that this one is going to last! It's worth the extra money in my opinion!
I bought this backpack as an airline carry on item for a long distance trip. It is perfect. It is big enough for a change of clothes, books, carry on items etc.. but not so big that it is bulky. It has just the right number of pockets - enough to help me organize my items but not so many that items disappear in unknown hiding places. Also I am a small woman with narrow shoulders and this is the first pack that I have found comfortable to carry all day while I hike or sightsee. I had planned to give this to my college aged daughter who needs a new pack but I like it so much I will buy another and keep one for myself.
I am a 5'5" lady working in IT and I needed a new backpack for carrying my laptop and all of my equipment. Knowing what I know about backpacking, I couldn't stomach getting a daily driver without any support. This one has everything I need with convenient and intuitive compartments, side pockets, and shoulder strap support. When full, it feels much lighter on my back than it does in my hands and therefor accomplishes everything I needed it to do. The maroon is also a lovely color. Highly recommend.
I am a law student and this backpack is amazing. I practically live out of it these days. It holds a 15 inch laptop, my cord and a flat folding book stand in the back pocket. In the middle pocket it holds my books (up to 3 huge case books), my folders and pencil pouch. There's also a little zippered pouch that fits my flat folding mouse perfectly. The front has a zippered section for my wallet and other personal items plus it has an organizer for pens, pencils, highlighters, and smaller phone cords. The very from top zipper holds things like eye drops and business cards. In one of the vertical zippers I keep my noise cancelling headphones. The other holds snacks and things like nail clippers. I can put both a water bottle and a reusable coffee cup in one of the bottle pockets the other holds gum and other things I want easily accessible but won't have issues if it falls out of the top.
I bought this for my wife (a working mom) and she loves it—especially the colors—professional enough for work, but the rose gold zipper pulls give it a feminine touch. Fits her 15” laptop great and on top of that she can fit her lunch box, purse, and coffee flask (with room left for a change of clothes). She says it has just the right amount of features and pockets without going overboard. The only thing that would make it better is if it stood up on its base better so you don’t have to lean it on stuff to keep it upright.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this backpack for every day life. I am a fitness trainer, and do contract creative work on the side. Some days I spend the morning at the gym with clients, head to an office for the afternoon, and return to the gym for evening clients. This backpack holds my training notes and shoes, while also keeping my laptop safe, and still has room for snacks to get me through the day. It's very durable and has pockets in all the right places. It protects my 16" MacBook Pro perfectly, and still leaves plenty of room for my tennis shoes and water bottle. The only downfall I see in this backpack is that it doesn't sit upright. It must be leaning against something or it will fall on its back. While this can be annoying, it is due to the extra padding and protection it offers my MacBook, so I am definitely okay with it. The back section for your laptop (there's still enough room for my laptop to be in its case + be in the backpack) includes extra pockets, which I use to hold notebooks and folders. This leaves more room in the main compartment for other items. I spent weeks searching for the right backpack, and was relieved when I was able to find and purchase this one.
I have the last model of this backpack. The straps on the old version are far superior than the ones on this version. The front pocket doesn't go all the way down and that's a good thing because it gives more space to the main compartment. The side water bottle compartments are way better in this version. They're bigger and higher. My 30 oz yeti cup fits perfectly in the holder. I purchased the one with the rose gold accents because I wanted a less sport looking bag for work. Over all I do like the bag and it's improvements.but, The straps are not great and not really comfortable but I don't plan on carrying it for long periods of time.
I had the old version of this backpack for 7 years and it was my favorite. When it started to fall apart, I ordered this one. It's really padded, which is nice, but it is really heavy. The dealbreaker, though, was the straps - they are SO STIFF they feel like bricks. My shoulders hurt after wearing the backpack just 30 minutes, so I can't imagine actually using it for school. I really wanted to love this, but unfortunately I'll be returning it.
This is a great backpack for work, the gym, and short trips. I'm a convention go-er and this backpack holds all of my things with plenty of extra space and lots of secure pockets for phones, wallets, tablets, and other valuable items. I do agree with previous comments that the straps could be more comfortable. They aren't well padded and hit the collarbones and shoulder at an odd spot. Since I don't wear it for long of periods of time very often it doesn't bother me, but someone looking for an all day backpack will probably have issues. Overall this is an excellent backpack. If there hadn't been an issue with the straps I would have given it 5 stars.
