If only the strap worked well
Bag works as intended. No problems with that. For the strap, I fed the top strap back through the buckle and it doesn’t slide at all. For the bottom buckle, I removed the strap and threaded it through the reverse direction and it doesn’t slide either. It would be nice if metolius actually did something like this from the factory.
2 Straps are better than 1
Two straps are more comfortable than one. This bag was great over a weekend of climbing. I was able to fit a 70mm rope my harness, anchor, draws and chalk bag with some effort. This is a quality bag and for the price you can't complain. Although I did have some long approaches and the single strap didn't allow enough weight distribution and it became quite uncomfortable after 10-20 mins. I'd spend the extra $20 for the second strap unless you plan to use this as a gym bag or for a short approach.
Great tarp
This works great and it has a large tarp for holding the rope. I have a 10mm 60m rope that fits perfectly with extra space on top where I can put equipment for anchor building and carry it all in the same bag. I do like the zipper do the side, it does make it easier to roll the rope back into the bag after a day of climbing. Con: I don't necessarily use it because the entire bag gets stuffed into a larger pack, but the one strap design isn't the best for hauling the rope up to the top of a route.
Works
Bought one as a gift for my son, then got one for myself. We both have 70M ropes and the bags are fit for purpose. Two challenges prevent 5 stars: 1. The groundsheet could be larger. It works OK, but loops of the rope tend to fall onto the dirt. 2. The shoulder loop doesn’t stay put in the buckles. You have to knot the top one to stop it from sliding.
Strap isn't great, and it likes to come open
I did not use this for any multipitch - just as a tote to get ropes to and from singe pitch crags. This thing is super annoying for even short approaches. The strap on the sling won't hold if you tighten it to fit, and you have to get really clever with how you secure the zipper if you don't want the whole thing opening up as you walk. I've used this for maybe a dozen trips and now throw a biner through it when its closed to keep it from opening too much. If your approach is longer than a quarter mile, you're going to be fiddling with it. Once *at* the crag, it's great. But it's about as convenient as just hauling the rope raw and cramming a tarp in the snack pack. At the end of the day, it's a cheap one strap rope bag. It was never going to be great - but I am still bummed out by this thing. Get a nicer bag if you really need one.
Durable material, comfy strap, large tarp
Purchased this for use gym lead climbing. The shoulder strap was comfy hiking the 3 miles to the gym. The tarp is very large for keeping rope off the ground, and though I've not tested the tarp seems water-proof. Plenty of room to fit a 60m 10.2mm rope, shoes, harness, and chalk bag. The zipper is rugged with nice large teeth. The handle is great for carrying from one route to the next in the gym. The drawstring closure prevents dirt and moisture from entering while hiking. Very happy with the economic purchase.
If you are concerned about the strap slipping
then simply run the tag end back through the buckle. Problem solved!
Some improvements needed for the price point.
I will start by saying this is my first, and currently my only, rope bag. While it is functional so far, there are a few things that I would change to make this a great product for its price point. The shoulder strap is constantly becomes more lose each time I put the bag over my shoulder. I have tried back-looping the web strap to better secure it but it did not help. I just have to readjust the straps every so often. I would like to see a more secure way to set the length of the web strap. Secondly, I wish there was another loop to tie off the rope to but I just use two separate types of knots. It's not a major factor but a factor. Overall this is a functional bag and I would recommend the product as it mostly performs as advertised minus the aforementioned issue with the shoulder strap.
It's ok-ish
The strap is awkward and slips. The zipper comes open when your carrying it. There's absolutely no pockets or clips to store anything other than the rope. This bag is really just for the rope. It does have a decent size tarp and it can be packed and unpacked pretty quickly. Really if the maker would just add a few pockets to the outside or inside, or at least a few places to clip on some carabiners and attach stuff to the bag, it would be much better. And maybe a functioning zipper latch and drawstring at the top instead of the cheap one it comes with
Straps slip significantly
The bag is a good size, holds a 60m rope in addition to shoes, draws, and some other equipment. The tarp is also a good size. The problem with this bag though is the straps continuously slip to their longest position making it difficult to carry and cumbersome.
