Snow Peak  Field Barista Coffee Grinder

This is an ok hand grinder. It makes a decent cup of coffee, but I'm not impressed with the quality. The unit I received has a small offset in the burr that moves. It's probably only about half a millimeter, but the inconsistent grind is really visible. The plastic spacers that hold the burr in place are also not very stiff, so it is possible to shift the burr easily by hand, although mine always returns to a position that is off center. This also appears to have the same construction and burr set as a number of other hand grinders, but is twice as expensive. I would not buy this again. I would either buy one of the cheaper grinders (probably a Hario Slim) or step up in price a bit and get something with higher quality construction and burrs.

I have this grinder and a Porlex JP-30. A couple things I noticed with the Snow Peak grinder. It does not hold much beans for grinding. Maybe ~30 grams at most. The handle is fixed to the lid but the lid spins as you grind which heats up the top because it's metal on metal, not to mention the terrible screech sound of metal on metal. I noticed that when I did a finer grind that the lid got stuck because the handle over wrenched on the nut on the top. I do like the handle fixed to the lid so when you grind the handle does not fly off like the Porlex. Some changes are needed in the Snow Peak grinder.

As someone who loves the outdoors and have been on many backpacking, car camping and climbing trips then I can count, this is essential for making the perfect coffee. As an ex-barista at Starbucks and the wayyyy cooler Dutch Bros (funnest job ever) I can tell you that this product is solid! It can fine-tune your coffee grind to your liking, it’s light weight and durable construction keeps my coffee coming at home or on the side of El Capitan. Pull the trigger on this, especially if you have some dividends laying around!

For that price point, you should not experience some of its significant frustrations. I used dividends and I regret it. With the same money you can buy a REAL grinder like a porlex or a decent steel-burr grinder. Funny enough, my little $29 dollar IKEA ceramic grinder has a more consistent grind, more capacity, and is better-looking. Pros: - Great form factor, it's very small. - It is light with and cool-looking. Cons: - It feels fragile, I could probably bend it if not careful. - Metal-on-metal friction at the top makes a loud noise, it also heats up significantly. - The burr size is very small. It takes a whole lot more effort to grind than others I've used, and it also takes a lot longer. - Inconsistent output (for a product this price it's a deal breaker for me) - Limited capacity (only 24 grams of my favorite coffee), barely enough for two 200ml cups. It's gonna be a while if you need to make more coffee than that. - Small burr chamber, somehow it would always miss a couple coffee beans that just would not fall into the burr. Sometimes I would learn this after I poured the coffee.

I bought this to upgrade from another hand grinder. The construction has shown this to be a good choice so far. The grind does require a little more effort than my previous one, but nothing terrible. It takes a little practice to get used to how to hold it. The removable grounds cup dominates the unit but if you hold that section the thing just spins and doesn't grind. Also, if too much pressure is used on the handle the top lid gets warm during the grind. Too little and the handle pops up and interrupts the grind. I like how the unit folds up, though it won't fit in an aeropress if that is what you brew in. The stainless construction also limits static buildup and there aren't as many grounds sticking to the sides. I use it almost daily (for about 2 months now) and it has handled a fine grind well so far and shows no sign of stopping.

Just like a good BBQ, the key is low and slow. What a difference hand grinding our coffee beans made. We use this and our Aero Press to make a smooth clean tasting coffee

Stainless steel and no plastic parts on this grinder. It may be small but very well constructed! I know this grinder will be a part of my compact camp stuff for years to come!

This is my second Snow Peak grinder. First one that i purchased for a camping trip to HI thanks to AK Airlines ceramic cracked but thankfully still work at camp. This is a perfect but delicate tool for coffee. It fits a little more then a "cup" of beans.

This is an utter piece of garbage; don’t spend the money on the snazzy Snowpeak brand! Hario makes grinders that actually work for half the price.

It will be fine for camping but really doesn't grind finely enough to make coffee the way I like to.
