Awesome crag bag
This is a perfect climbing pack! I can fit all my gear and then some. I love the full length side zipper. Great support on the back for hiking in & out of any climbing area. Very happy with my purchase!
Perfect crag pack
I've had this pack over a year now and use it for something at least once a week. When sport climbing it holds: (inside) 70m rope, 18 draws, harness, shoes, chalk bag, cordellete + lockers, helmet, water, and little things like belay device & specs snacks, blah, blah.... Trad climbing: mostly the same as above but a full rack and rope lives outside. It also gets used for mountain/canyoneering, and trekking. Just did 10.5mi with roughly 20lbs up a slot canyon summited a Mtn of sandstone and down another canyon, I stayed comfortable. I've found when my load out is under 30lbs the pack performs perfectly. BD customer service is impeccable! I blew the stitching between the 2 compartments, sent em a photo and they sent me a new pack with a return label for the busted one within a week. Great company, great product. It gets used for much more than I anticipated, small investment for such a huge payout!
capacity, comfort and versatility
I bought this product in summer to have a backpack with which to have all my sports climbing equipment in the same pack but I have finished using it for all types of climbing in the Picos de Europa (Spain). The result has been that I have discovered a perfect backpack for both short and long approaches with great comfort even with a lot of weight. Very comfortable even when you have to climb with it on since the lumbar belt barely interferes with the harness. Easy to load and good accessibility with the side zip. One day, due to an urgency, I ran back from my climbing to the car for an hour, with a lot of weight in my backpack and this one behaved perfectly in both stability and comfort. for putting a bug, I miss a back cover for rainy days. A good buy!
Does it all.
Slam this thing full and you won’t even know it. Artsy everything from a 70m rope and a quad rack to your winter layers and your sport kit. Only drawback for me has been how easy it is to lose small items in the outter zipper pockets due to its depth and non expandability. Not a huge issue tho. I would 9.7/10 recommend this pack.
No brainer
With all the options for crag packs, I was torn between which one to buy. Bought a few different kinds and ended up returning them for this one. The killer features of this pack are the two way zipper and the cavernous top loading design! Everything is so accessible, but the pack still has good structure. I can fit my rope, 12 draws, biners and belay devices, food for the day, some extra layers, and still have a bit of room! Can always throw the rope on top too to really haul gear. I hate taking forever to pack up after a climb, but this makes it quick business. Back panel is not very breathable, but I don’t think most craging packs are anyway. For $100 stop wondering and get yourself one!
Decent pack but lacks comfort
This pack holds a lot of gear, especially if you store the rope on the top. It does, for me at least, lack comfort--especially when loaded down with a lot of gear. I noticed that it puts a ton of stress on my upper back and neck when hiking in. I cringe at the idea of carrying this for more than 10 minutes. The waist straps are also pretty uncomfortable -- I think this is because they are so rigid and don't move with you as you hike.
Great bag for the price
Actual liters of the small/medium is 38 according to the tag. Still, a great size, especially if you store your rope on top of the bag. Very snug fit for a 9.8 60 meter rope, thin rope tarp, double rack BD .3-3, nuts, draws, anchor material, harness, shoes, chalk bag and helmet inside the bag. With all these items inside the bag the inner pouch has virtually no capacity and the outer small zip pouch could fit a guide book when the bag is this full. Load lifters would improve the felt load of this bag, but for the price it's a pretty good deal.

Solid Crag Pack
This is a well made, affordable pack that has enough room for everything you need for a day at the crag. I was able to fit a 70m rope, harness, hardware, helmet, food, water, and guidebook without difficulty. The double side zip is brilliant and allows you to reach items in the bottom of the pack without having to pull out all the contents. The outside pocket fits guidebooks and smaller items well. The shoulder straps and hip belt provide plenty of support for extended approaches, I had no problems during a 2 hour hike with a full pack. The construction is burly and should last for years of use. All in all I've been very impressed with the Crag 40.
Solid crag bag
I use this for trad cragging locally 1-2 days a week. I usually put two pairs of shoes and a double rack to #4s and 10 alpine draws in it plus my nalgene, food, extra layer, harness and helmet inside the pack and strap the rope on top. I couldn’t have picked a more perfect volume for my usage. It carries well but there are no load lifters and the hip belt sits too high on me (I’m 5’-11”). Super easy to use and I like the side zipper system. For the price I don’t think you can beat it. I’ve only been using it a short while but it seems pretty durable. Highly recommend as a crag bag.

Poor quality control
Purchased for the crag season and I climb often. Pack couldn't hold up to regular use and draw string sheath separated for core. More like shoe string material my opinion. Poorly fastened to bag where sewn. Took it to the alterations spot and had proper accessorie cord put in. Good to go now....however should come from the factory that way.
