I happily used this jacket in Patagonia for 2 weeks as a light raincoat and as a stellar windbreaker. It’s lightweight, packs well, and the pit zips rock for venting on big hikes. Then I used it for a week at the Oregon coast in downpours and was like ohhhhh this is what the other reviews complained about. In drenching rain, it acts more like a water resistant than a waterproof jacket and while I never got soaked, after about 90 minutes on heavy rain the coat itself is completely wet and you are damp. Seams hold up well, and with at home waterproofing it was fine but know what you’re getting. I would still buy again for the packability and lightweight factor.
I purchased this coat in March 2020 and have worn it for the past year and a half for Seattle rainy days. Firstly, the fit is strange—the arms are a good couple inches too long (I’m 5’6” for reference) and the hood is far too big, even when adjusted to make it as small as possible, it hangs half way down my face. These annoying details aside, I kept the jacket because I needed a coat and plus size choices are limited. However, I found increasingly that it doesn’t actually keep me dry. Water seeps through the fabric making me damp, even after just 30 minutes outside in a medium amount of Seattle rain. This is so disappointing. I really expect a garment like this to last longer.
I have had this jacket for 2 years now. I love it. I wear it all the time. The armpit vents are probably the least-uses feature, but everything else is great. It even keeps me warm in upper 30s and 40s (F) temps. My only issue is this one design flaw: the Velcro on the right side by the neck is rarely in use, and it has now completely scratched up the right shoulder of the jacket. If I had known this, I would've just removed it earlier. I never use it. That's really my only issue.
I found out on Camino De Santiago, that this rain jacket is not rain proof. with in less then a minute, I was soaked right through. made for a cold hike, I also bought a rain poncho which I will go review in a few minutes. As a regular wind breaker/jacket, its fine. just not in the rain.
Lightweight, worked well in light rain so far. Got it for hiking and bike riding, so being lightweight is what I needed. I got it in yellow so I could easily be seen biking and hiking and I just love the color! I’m only 5’0’’ so the sleeves are a little long but I just roll them up. Very happy with the purchase!
I just spent a festival weekend in Telluride, where you can experience all four seasons in one day, and this jacket was a lifesaver. It packed nice and small into my backpack -- along with rain pants, warm jacket, water bottle, gloves, knit cap, sun hat and sunscreen. It cut the wind as advertised; rain beaded up and hail/graupel/random frozen objects rolled off. The plus-size cut accommodated a puffer jacket, long-sleeved T and base layer, without making me look like the Michelin man. I was able to adjust the hood to keep the rain off while still able to see. I love my state! Bravo!
I bought a jacket for hiking in Moab. I wanted a jacket that was light, waterproof, and windproof. While I was in Moab, the temperature fluctuated constantly. The jacket shielded me from rain and wind. When the sun did come out, it was light enough not to get too hot.
I was looking a a rain jacket for dual purpose - bike riding and hooded packable rain jacket. I rolled up the hood and stored it in the collar for my bike ride today (40 degrees and rain.)No problems no flapping in the wind. Most cycling rain jackets don't have a hood.
Absolutely love the fit of this jacket. I ended up buying both the Red Currant/Red Cascade as well as the Harvest Gold. I sized up so I could wear some winter layers while snowshoeing or XC skiing in cold weather. Normally I wear an XL but the 1X is a lovely fit. Love the color of the jacket and the long sleeves. It breathes well and I have taken advantage of the zip pits. This Model has the ability to store the hood inside the collar which is good when I want to get rid of the hood and just wear a hat while skiing. The newer model that came out does NOT have the ability to store the hood inside the collar. I was out in wet snow for 3 hrs and it seemed to ward off the moisture so I would say its pretty waterproof. I felt confident for 3 hrs.
I was in need of a waterproof light rain jacket, that wasn't ridiculously expensive and this was perfect! I'm 5'9, usually wear size 24, got the 3X and it fit wonderfully. I love that I'm able to pack it up too within its own pocket. Brought it with my traveling and at times also served as a pillow. It's definitely not meant to keep you warm, when it was cooler out had to have a sweater on underneath. But I like this, because when it's warm and raining, I didn't feel like a sauna. Definitely waterproof and worth the buy, and at SUCH a great price!
