These are hiking pants that don't look like hiking pants. They've go plenty of stretch and are quite durable. I've had a few falls and gone through plenty of thorny bushes in them with no visible damage. They're cut closer to standard pants than hiking pants which means no massive pockets everywhere and no giant leg openings to make you look like you're wearing bell-bottoms. You can easily wear these around town before going on your hike and nobody would bat an eye. One thing to note about the photos, these pants fit very much like what you see with the "dark roast" and "grain" colors. The fit of the "carbon" color is way too loose and baggy given my experience with the pants.
I've worn these pants several times - mostly to work - and they fit well, are really comfortable, need no ironing, and they "breathe" well in the mid-90s weather we've had for the past month. Although they have the hiking seams and other hiking touches, they look stylish enough to fit right in around the office. I also must say that I was little skeptical about the cell phone pocket feature at first, but I've come to really like that a lot..it's way more comfortable than putting the cell phone in my front pocket. The color (raven) is basically "black," and it is a bit darker than I expected it would be based on the website picture. It still looks great, though.
I love the fit and material of these pants. But I would not buy them again and this is why. The button they use is awful. It’s almost like a snap button. You have to buy one waist size bigger which makes them too baggy because the button will snap open. If they had just used a regular button, this wouldn’t be an issue. If you plan to use these for tactical reasons (like law enforcement or military or just as hunting or range attire) and plan on having something on your belt that has some weight to it, then forget it. It will pop open on you every time you bend over or move around. I’ve written the company to complain about this because I love the fit of these pants and wish they’d fix this. But they wrote back and said all their pants are like that. Guess I have to find something else... :(
Have several pair of convertible but wanted a one piece. Was concerned about the reviews saying the snaps didn't stay but decided to try anyway. My biggest concern was the metal KUHL tag on the small pocket on the right side. It is an accident waiting to happen and could cut your hand open. I was gonna take them back but decided to try to remove the tag by removing the rivets. This turned out to be fairly easy with a hammer and sharp chisel. The snap might be improved with some tweaking too, but for now the zipper seems to hold the pant closed so they are not falling down and i'm happy.
I really like the fit, features and material of these pants, but there is a fatal flaw, and that is the snap closure. The slightest amount of outward pressure causes the snap to come undone and then the zip slides down by itself. I have purchased several Kuhl slacks of differing models and they all do the same thing. With all of the centuries of clothing design in human history, this is what they've come up with? Why not use a hook or button that are tried and true? I won't purchase another Kuhl pant until they redesign and fix this issue.
I'm always searching for casual, lightweight multipurpose pants than aren't jeans. It's usually hard to find something that fits me since a lot of pants are two narrow in the hip and thigh area - I usually have to go a size up and deal with a baggy waist. But these fit me perfectly. I usually don't spend $80 on pants but I decided to make an exception this time.
Excellent fit, comfortable, good for cool wet days (what I bought it for). As others have commented, the pocket design is simply stupid. No other word fits. Tiny "cargo" pockets too small to hold anything, located clear in back (where you will sit on whatever you put there). If you can't do cargo pockets right, don't do them at all! No zipper on rear pockets, barely large enough for a wallet, which will most likely fall out.
I have two pair of these and one has a problem with the waist snap. The slightest pressure causes it to open. It is so annoying that I've stopped wearing them which is disappointing given the premium pricing. I have the right fit and a slim build.
These are more comfortable than jeans. They definitely need a belt, though. My only gripe about them is that the pockets that I place my minimalist wallet (left side) and smartphone (right side) don't have any latches, buttons or any means to prevent these items from falling out if I ever go inverted. If my wallet goes missing, I'll more likely suspsect that they just fell out, rather than getting pickpocketed.
Easy to care for; easy on the eyes, and easy on the budget (in the long run). I've had mine for two years and they look as good as when I bought them - no joke. Color has held up really well. They wash and dry great and are super durable, so they will last a long time. And while the pics show them looking a bit rumpled, they actually wear well and have clean lines for an all around good look. If using them on the trail is your plan, they have plenty of give, they shed dirt easily, and they dry quickly. Love these pants.
