Versatile Backcountry Layer
This jacket is perfect for skiing (backcountry or inbounds) as well as around town or walking the dog! I have worn this jacket in a wide variety of backcountry conditions an I am always happy to have it with me. On a warm day it fits into the pocket stuff sack (that's right no separate stuff sack to blow away or get lost in that "special safe place") and is lightweight in my pack while skinning, but is warm and ready to go for making turns. On a medium temp day it works great as an outer layer over just a base layer or base layer + vest for the day. Finally, on a really cold day it is thin enough to be a midlayer. I was most surprised when I wore the jacket as an outer layer during a spring ski day in a snowstorm. They heavy wet snow didn't impact the function of the jacket at all. Despite being very light weight it provides great insulation while keeping the wind and snow out and your body warmth in! The fit of the jacket is similar to other Patagonia jackets I have (size M). The size predictor suggested L, but after reading other reviews I stuck with what I have for other Patagonia mid and outer layers and I'm glad I did. (I'm 5'7" and 160 lbs) There are four details of the fit that I particularly appreciate when using the jacket and feel sets it apart from some other jackets: 1 - The jacket is a little long in the torso and comes about half way down my hips. This works great when wearing a pack, but no impact on range of motion or ability to move my legs. Over 2,000 ft of elevation gain the jacket did not ride up under my pack at all! An annoyance I have had with other jackets. 2 - The pockets are located slightly higher than normal allowing them to be accessed and used even when using a pack with a waist belt. 3 - Arm length comes down to the base of my thumb; again this helps to keep the sleeve from riding up while skinning. It also is thin enough that it fit between my glove liners and overmits so there was no way for snow or wind to reach my hands. 4 - Pocket stuff sack. I love that one of the pockets doubles as a stuff sack for the coat. When stuffed it is smaller than a 32 oz Nalgene bottle and fits easily in a pack with my other ski gear and snacks. It is quick and easy to fit into the sack as well. Overall I am very happy with the performance and fit of this jacket and would recommend it to friends.
Featherweight and amazingly warm
I bought this jacket for a 5-week trip to Spain in the late winter, for which I only brought a day pack since we planned on doing a lot of bike riding. The jacket met or exceeded my expectations every day that I wore it (which was almost every day of the trip)- it was cozy when worn over a wool shirt, a great insulator under my raincoat when it rained, hailed and sleeted, and it packed away into a tiny, almost weightless wad when I needed to carry it in my bag.
I LOVE!!!!!!!! WOOOWWWW!!! ULTRA FANTASTIC!!!!
Would rate a 6/5 stars if I could. This jacket is my favorite thing ever in the world. It is so warm and light and water resistant and beautiful and awesome... Words cannot possibly describe the epic perfection of this jacket. Anyways, let's continue to some specifics. For size reference, I am about 5'5", 120 lbs, quite flat chested, muscular ish arms, and an extra small was a perfect fit for my body type. In the xs size, the jacket weighs 7.0 ounces (according to my scale) which is highly fantastic for a synthetic jacket with all of these features and warmth. It is exactly what I wanted for ultralight backpacking and casual wear as well. I am very impressed with the insulation in this. It is extremely packable and warm, and the Pertex coating on the shell is a great addition for keeping even more warmth in damp conditions. Though I don't have experience with down because I don't think pulling feathers out of innocent geese is a very nice thing to do, I am confident this PlumaFill exceeds the performance of down in pretty much every way. Additionally, the pockets are up higher than regular so it is compatible with a hipbelt while backpacking. The pockets are very roomy and it even has inside pockets that are big enough to hold beanies, snacks, cell phones, water filters to prevent freezing, etc. With some shoving, it will even conveniently pack down into its own pocket, however this is not a feature I use often. A couple cons I noticed while researching this jacket that could apply to some people were the non adjustable elastic on the bottom, long arms, and weird sizing. However, for my small-ish, non-curvy stature, everything about this jacket is perfect for me, which is kind of hard to find. It is fitted enough to have efficient warmth, but loose enough to be really comfotable and easy to move in. The sleeves are the perfect length and width for me, with room to comfortably bend my elbows and fully extend my arms out without the sleeves going past my wrists. Also, the bottom elastic is just the right amount of snug. Also, in terms of durability I have only tested it a few times but the material seems quite sturdy but is still ultralight so meant for on trail hiking only. However, for anyone with a more curvy body type, I'm not sure how well this jacket would work for you. I there was a way for there to be more options for a wider ranger of body types. This jacket is exactly what I was looking for and I couldn't possibly be happier with it. It has just the balance of features and ultralight weight to suit my needs. I don't think there is any better jacket out there. Also, REI had amazing customer service and made sure I received this jacket on time for my trip even though there were some shipping complications.
Stitching quality is poo
Unfortunately, the quality received is not what I expected for the price point and reputation.
Best Coat Purchase!
Patagonia has done it again making the perfect outer wear! I have been wanting a Patagonia nano puff for the longest but when they released the Micro Puff I did a lot of research on Comparison to Nano and I couldn't resist the Micro Puff benefits. I bought a Large as reviews stated the Micro Puff is more form fitting than the Nano, which I love. It covers at my hips, doesn't ride up when wearing it. Great warmth for such an incredible light weight of jacket. Packs up small into the pocket and can use for a pillow when traveling. The useful pockets inside jacket are a bonus. I am glad I did not get a hood as I don't use them often and will use my rain shell over this if really need a hood.
Puff the Magic Jacket
What’s not to love about the Puff?! It’s absurdly light, packs down ultra-small, and comes in some neat colors (I went for the Ikat Purple). I’m 5’6”/125 lbs and the small Puff is a great fit for me. I’ve tried this layer up in the mountains and it’s totally up to the task but also looks real cute around town. When I’m playing in the snow, this jacket fits really well over a baselayer and keeps me toasty on snowy spring hikes. Skiing I use the Puff as a midlayer under my ski jacket and it breathes while still keeping in heat. The Puff also holds its own on the crag - I really appreciate the flexibility in the arms and don’t feel even a little bit restricted while placing gear. The sleeves are the right length (not too long, not too short, justtttt right) and the cuffs keep out wind without leaving me feeling like I’ve been wearing tight hair ties around my wrists all day. As far as durability goes, these jackets last a long time. My last gave me 5 years and still has plenty of life left to life. I’m really happy with my new one and would highly recommend the Puff to anyone else who likes playing outside!
Warm, lightweight, packs small
I purchased this for travel and hiking because of the warmth-to-weight ratio. It is lightweight, packs down to small package using one of the pockets, and is quite warm. I agree with other reviewers about it having an odd fit, though. Having tried it on in the store, I purchased a size up - I would normally be a Medium, but I got a Large. The medium was tight in the shoulders and hips, but fit OK through the middle. The large gives me a little extra room in the shoulders, which I like, and it fits snug around the hips, but is big in the middle, and the sleeves are very long. It really does seem like it's cut for a male figure, not a female one. Still, I like it well enough to give it 4 stars, especially since I got it on sale.
Best jacket I’ve ever had
I’ve bought two already and absolutely love them. I’m 6 foot tall and have an athletic build, with small boobs lol, so this is a great fit for me. I can zip it up and not have all this extra room hanging free around my chest, letting cold wind in. The only downside is that the material is a little fragile. Rubbing up against things too hard will tear little holes in it, which is why I bought my second. I’ve had my second for less than a month and it’s got two little tear holes in the front side too. At $240 a pop, I can’t keep buying new ones so will just wear my holey ones
Just OK
Not terribly impressed. I ordered this jacket after reading some stellar reviews but it didn't fit my frame well and it was much to thin. I ordered my normal size medium and it barely zipped over my hips. I was able to zip over a base later and a vest, but when I raised my arms the jacket would need to be pulled down over my hips. The arms were pretty big as well, felt a little disproportionate. I did not take this jacket out on a hike or backpacking. I thought I could have made it work but it also felt way too thin to actually keep me warm. Rather than the synthetic fill I opted for another brand with real down as I wanted the reassurance I would be kept warm.
Fit is off
This would have been a fantastic technical jacket except the fit is off, that is completely different from the other Patagonia jackets I own. This jacket is so tight in the sleeves that when wearing a short sleeve shirt, it binds at the elbow when I bend my elbows, while the body is comfortably loose. My nano puff hoodie has about an inch of spare width at the elbow in comparison.
