DEFECT
I used to love these shoes - my first pair lasted forever (wish I still had those actually) - the last 2 pairs I bought have been beyond disappointing. I use these primarily for swim trips where I am on boats and walking on piers and beaches and to ride my bike to the lake to swim. I want to make it clear that I am NOT doing anything rugged in these shoes. On my last pair, the seam on the side of one shoe was breaking apart - this happened just after the one year Keen warranty expired. I decided to attribute that to a fluke. Well, I just bought another pair a month ago. The exact same defect happened on one shoe again. I love the sole on the shoe and the support the shoe gives, but since this continues to happen, I do not think I am a Keen buyer any longer.
Makes hiking even easier.
Don’t wear it at Cuyamaca Hike you will get bite by fire ants. Great design and make hikes easier during summer!
Compfy but HOT & not for hiking!
Replacing my 10 yr old Keen REAL Hiking fisherman I adore. All over Maui, rocks to water. These Newports are not comparable except for basic comfort. Barely a tred, compared to my well-worn originals, hard to slip on, and super hot! I even tried light socks & whatever rubber is used has NO breathability- im a professional dog walker & research my work clothes. Regular sneakers are too warm in MI summers so open fisherman styles are my go-to. Old ones had a “washable” removable in-sole with great beefy support. A tread I could climb where signs said “beware of falling rocks”. That’s the shoe I expect from keen from your description of Newport and price.
Definitely runs small
These shoes are great and perfect for what I need them for. I just wish I read the reviews before purchasing them because they definitely run small. I normally wear size 7 and when I got them in the mail I couldn't even get them on my feet. So now I'm rocking a size 7.5 and they are tight and a struggle to get on, but atleast I can actually get them on! I considered getting size 8 but someone said I might have too much toe room and that for shoes like this it's good to be a little tight. I dunno for sure yet. I still need to test these out on the trail but I'm enjoying them thus far. I'm obsese so my feet are probably thicker than some other peoples feet. But if you sometimes have to buy the wide version of your shoe size (like me) I'd definitely size up.
Keen love
Just got mine in the mail yesterday. Mine seemed so dark compared to what I remembered when ordering. Looking at the picture and realized there are major differences compared to mine. I do not have the blue edging. My pair has black edging. They are still a keeper, but I am concerned about them being hot in the summer. I have been wearing Keens for 10 years now and think this style runs a little small. Still the great quality that I expect from Keens and they are cute and comfortable.
Super comfy, takes a while to dry
I got these a half size up, based on fit reviews of them running a little small, and I'm glad I did. The 9.5's fit perfectly. My first backpacking trip with them this summer, I did get a blister on my right pinky toe, but since I've broken them in, they've been great. I really appreciate the thicker sole and toe protection when I'm hiking in warm weather while my feet stay cool, and the traction is great for navigating slick river rock. My only complaint about them is they take forever to dry, even left outside my tent/hammock in the sun, but that's the compromise for a multi sport shoe. I still love them!
Brilliantly colored sandals protect soles
Bright sturdy shoes that get compliments no matter where I wear them. I was delighted that I had them on last week when a storm broke at grocery store. When it let up I waded through ankle-deep cold water to my car, relieved I had these sandals on. I wore them when I knew I'd be parking in an area town with tall curbs that create deep gutter streams after storms--and yes, I needed them. I have found the weight of the soles takes some getting used to: all the support for it is in the band around your ankle and the bungy style closure up the middle of foot--so far less than when I wear athletic shoes with fat soles. My ankle strength is growing.
Long-Time Boot Hiker
I had Teva sandals as a kid and loved them for my outdoors hobbies, but I outgrew them. Ever since, I've been a boot chick. Ankle support, arch support, winter hiking/camping - love 'em. But they're hot, and I hike all year round. Boots are brutal in the summer. Saw these were on sale and grabbed a pair last week. Took them on a short hike over the weekend. Nice arch support and - I was surprised - no need to break them in. Didn't rub or catch anywhere. Didn't get anything in the shoes either - I think, due to the closed toe. The black and tie-dye colors look good too. I tend to get natural colors, but I really like these.
Great shoes, 1 or 2 (minor?) issues
These KEENs were purchased to replace a pair I've been wearing for 12-13 years. Footbed still fits perfectly, but top is much more snug than on the old ones, which, no doubt have stretched a lot. Having worn the new pair about an hour already, I'm confident they'll stretch to fit. One concern is the open space next to the smallest toe: it's much wider than on the old pair. I'm hoping it's not going to be an issue as the shoes stretch with wear. Also, that gap is about 1/16 - 1/8 in. wider on one of the new shoes than the other, so quality of the actual assembly seems off a bit.
Try Before Buying
Very impressive support and stability. I chose to get a half size larger (9.5) for extra comfort. I love the bright colors and ability to adjust to tighten and fit my foot perfectly. Excellent construction and great for water sports or hiking.
