Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

This thing essentially kept me alive on La Plata peak. Or at least kept me from having to bail.. I’ve used this jacket a ton, but this trip really made me a believer. As I ascended the mountain conditions slowly got worse. From 55° and over cast to 20° with horizontal sleet and snow mix. Being the bafoon I am I never turned around until the summit. Had I not had a shell this dependable, I would’ve been in for a lot of suffering. All stories aside if you’re looking for a technical shell with all the climbing specific features this is a great one for the price. Kinda clunky feeling for street wear, but us dirtbags don’t dress for the streets anyways.
This is the jacket that you want to have for international travel or hiking in all weather. It's well made, fully adjustable, zips under the pits, waterproof, velcro for the sleeve length, goretex breathable, built with room to wear warm layers underneath--I could even fit a light down jacket under my medium. It folds up small into a day pack. Easy quality zips and construction. It's ready for any conditions--it's the best outer layer money can buy and in black it makes you look like an experienced traveler.
I like this jacket quite a bit. Compares favorably if not better than my Arcteryx 2.5 layer rain jacket in terms of breathability and weather protection. It’s a bit less fitted as well, Large is nice on my 6’2” 215-lb frame. I live in Chicago which is no joke in winter, hitting -25 or more with driving snow. This jacket is roomy enough to fit a down layer, sweatshirt and merino layer and keep me toasty without pouring sweat. It lasted well through the season, but the jacket pocket zippers gave out near the spring. No biggie, I can deal. But then this fall I had it on as a single layer with a tshirt on a 30-degree day, walking my dog with my hands in the pockets. She pulled suddenly toward a squirrel and my hand went straight through the pocket that held her leash handle. Never had that happen before. Tried using Tenacious Tape to repair but it’s a critical spot, so I’ll likely need a new one. I’ll probably get a new one, I liked it.
First serious use: wore during a 6 mile trail run with medium rain the whole time. Kept me perfectly dry and actually regulated sweat much better then I have experienced with older coats. There are some solid features to this jacket. Fully sealed zippers feel sleek (if not a bit tight to move) and functional. Large pockets accommodate a lot, like a pair of Patagonia down mittens. The hood hits that sweet spot of large enough to fit over a wool beanie, but tight enough to not blow off in the wind. Overall the jacket has a more “fitted” feeling which I love. At the end of the day, you have to try a coat on to make sure it’s the right fit for you, but I love it!
I bought this jacket in May after a sales person in the VT store recommended it as an option to another jacket that didn’t fit well. This jacket fit perfectly, had all the same features as the other one and was $50 less! I am currently in the Balkans and have had this jacket up and down 8000 foot mountains in all kinds of weather, and it has performed like a champ! Vents well, keeps the weather out, totally adjustable to make the fit perfect! If you are looking for a jacket that can be layered under, will keep you dry and will hold up to the rigors of the mountains, look no further! Well done REI you hit a home run with this one!!!!
I've owned several rain jackets over the past few years that were in the $75-125 range, all have been fine for casual use but not withstood days where my activities had me in the rain for hours. I decided to make a larger investment with the hopes of not ending up soaked on my next river trip, this jacket did not disappoint. On day one I had a period of 5 hours paddling in a steady rain, how nice it was to actually stay dry! The cuffs ended up getting pretty soggy due to the fact that my arms were facing up a fair bit of the time, but not something I can knock the coat for, I'll simply be smarter and wear a pair of gauntlet-style gloves next time. Yes the price tag might be a little scary, but I found it to be well worth it.
Pros: Great Value, 3 layer Gore-Tex, Durable, Pit Zips, Hood works well with hats (ex. Ballcap) Cons: Packability, bit noisy (crinkly), lack of 2 way zipper, Hood fits big without a hat, has a lot of fabric in the neck area and hood which isn't super comfortable unless you're bundling up. Overall: Its something I'd take on a trip with potential for more extreme weather (ex. hiking in the mountains). It would probably be ok for a summer backpacking trip as well if packability isn't a big concern. It's not a casual rain jacket for when walking around town or the local park. Tip: A lot of the negative reviews talk about the big hood. I've found if you flip the bill (plastic tip) inward to tuck it inside the hood, it fits soooo much better without a hat/helmet.
Incredibly well built. Hard to tell in photos but there is 2 types(weights?) of exterior fabrics. Most of the jacket body and arms are one type, and shoulders/upper arms/part of back and chest (high wear spots) are another. Waterproof plastic zippers with no flaps. Zippers tuck into fabric at ends to maintain waterproofing. Pit zips do have flaps and are a HUGE plus, not always found in other rain jackets. All stitching appears top notch, and all seams are well sealed. Is baggy for layering for multi-sport applications, Heavy Duty Rain Jacket and Shell.
I was looking for a new rain jacket as my TNF jacket is 10 years old and starting to come apart. I’ve looked long and hard at offerings from all brands, and could not find one that I was 100% happy with what was on the market; I wanted a new version of my old jacket but it just wasn’t going to happen. Browsing my local REI store, I found this jacket, in a wonderful orange color that is actually pleasing to look at. I nearly choked on the price tag, but went ahead and bought it anyway. This jacket by far blows away my old TNF and many others. It’s a few ounces heavier, but performs much better; I’ll take performance over weight any day. With its superb construction and materials, I’m sure to get more than 10 years out of it. One of the best purchases I’ve made recently...
I have used my jacket for daily use, hiking, camping, skiing, and biking in the PNW for a few years now, and it keeps me dry. It shows no signs of delaminating anywhere, and all of the hardware is holding up well. It runs true to size for an outer shell, but baggy if you’re not layering it. I typically layer it with a fleece or puffy jacket in the winter. I don’t really like the feeling of waterproof jackets directly on my skin, so in the summer, I have a lightweight Smartwool hoodie I layer it with. When this jacket eventually wears out, I will replace it with another of the same… if they still sell them.
