I am relatively new to climbing but have already fallen in love. I decided to get my own gear to help save money on gym rental fees and to make it easier as I transition more into the great outdoors. I looked at a few harnesses (Mammut and different brands) and decided to start out with this one. Climbing-wise: Since I'm starting out with top rope/sport climbing, this harness is more than enough since I won't be carrying too much gear. The quality of the tie-in points and belay loop are great and I feel really safe on belay. Not too sure how well this would work if you're trad climbing with the weight of the gear on the loops, but I feel like it would hold up pretty well with one rack. Design-wise: I'm a huge fan of the adjustable leg loops as I have larger thighs and I found that the harnesses with static leg loops were too tight. The Mammut Slide Bloc buckles really do allow for quick adjustments while maintaining the correct double-back configuration; I haven't had the harness become loose over three hours of climbing at the gym or outside. Plus, I love the colors. Size-wise, I was in the middle between an XS and S, but went with the S so I have :more room in the legs; I figure the harness won't slip over my hips even though my waist is close to maxed out. ***As a note, the XS only has TWO gear loops while the larger sizes have four; the decision to go with the small was also influenced by the fact it had all four gear loops. I can't speak to its longevity, but after climbing pretty regularly with it for the past month I don't see any issues, yet! All in all, this is a really great harness and I'm happy with my decision.
This harness is light and oh so comfortable. It’s holding up beautifully after over two years of solid use indoors and out. I love that the padding is breathable. BUT watch out because the XS size only has 2 gear loops, and the description doesn’t say so. This isn’t an issue indoors or if you’re just going to be top rope climbing, but it is definitely not enough space for sport or trad climbing. For me, that means I’ve retired my XS Ophir harness to gym use only. I love wearing this harness, and I would buy it again if my size had 4 loops.
I bought this harness after having to return another one due to the malfunction of it. I was a little apprehensive because I wanted a the same type of harness I had but I ended up with this one because I needed a harness that night and I ended up loving it. Great fit, lightweight, very comfortable.
I recently bought this harness to start top rope climbing and I’ve enjoyed it so far. I was worried a medium would be too big as the ones I rent from the gym are smalls but this one fit perfectly (a small would definitely be too small). For size comparison I’m 5’11 and 150lb and a medium worked great.
Liked everything about this harness except for the gear loops. The placement is off so gear hangs on my hips at strange angles or gets in the way of my legs as I climb. There isn’t a lot of room for the gear. Having more loops or bumping them slightly further back on the harness would help it fit a “woman/female” body better. Also just having two loops is not enough. I do like the adjustable legs and the fit of everything else. I’m 5’2” 112 lbs and pretty curvy. I’ll be keeping it as a back up!
I’m long waisted with a small waist so I have trouble finding harnesses that fit my waist and also are long enough in the rise. So I went into REI and literally tried on every harness they had in and this one seemed to have the longest rise. I will say that the extra small only has two loops for quick draws and that drives me nuts. Otherwise great harness.
I returned it because size XS has only 2 gear loops. Hopefully the next design will have 4 gear loops in all sizes (like the old design).
If you are cool with a harness that only tightens on the waist on one side, this is a great one. Very comfortable.
Bought this for my wife. She is a novice climber but has no issues with this harness. She says it is comfortable.
